In light of recurring economic crises and the demonstrated incompetence of the institutions which were designed to protect and nuture us, I think Invader Zim's portrayal of these institutions isn't necessarily off the mark, even if a bit exaggerated.Though that show, like so many others, was really not too good for children lol. Often punishing learning experiences and the prospect of being responsible, making fun of and showing disrespect to just about EVERYTHING, and insulting/parodying the very aspects and institutions of society. Sets a pretty bad example if you ask me.
Nick has a bad habit of assuming that if it animated it must be for children, the advertisement for Avatar always were geared towards a younger male audience (10), while the show itself aimed much higher and was enjoyable to adults as well, and you could never buy female charterer action figures witch confused me greatly, that's half the main cast unavailable for purchase and it disappointed my little cousin when she wanted the whole set.Michael826 said:Invader Zim is one of my favourite shows to have ever seen the light of day. I'm rather bummed that they cancelled it halfway through the second season because it wasn't attracting the 'desired' demographic (That being small children).
no it certainly wasn't off the mark, in fact it's portrayal was fairly accurate metaphorically, and would allow for an older audience to associate with as well as recognize the satire (zombie like working people, dumb as rocks/obsessive consumers, mindless drooling neighbors, and ridiculous politicians/incompetent military, with only one person, Dib, being the only sensible, reasonable, and logical person, with his sister being the apathetic bystander).XX55XX said:In light of recurring economic crises and the demonstrated incompetence of the institutions which were designed to protect and nuture us, I think Invader Zim's portrayal of these institutions isn't necessarily off the mark, even if a bit exaggerated.Though that show, like so many others, was really not too good for children lol. Even if nick wasn't a factor in the show's demise, it was already stated by vasquez that he was SICK of working on it, which would have sunk its quality into the ground. An example of this is the creator of spongebob, who wanted to end the show when, i believe, the movie was done, but the producers wanted him to keep going. And now the show is remembered as crap, because the creator was simply sick of making anymore of it, so hardly any effort is put into making the episodes what they were once before (i believe that the show even has content in it that is purposefully put in to sabotage its popularity, such as much of the disturbing images they've shown in later episodes.)chiggerwood said:Invader Zim is truly the greatest cartoon ever produced, and Nickelodeon were a bunch of idiots to get rid of it. Oh well I got the original box set, so I can watch all 31 episodes whenever I like, but God! the potential this show had was astounding. I loved it as a kid because of the insanity and now I love it as an adult, because of the satire, and the insanity. It seriously pains me to know that there will never be anymore new episodes ever again. It was going to be revealed that Dib was actually a robot, or cyborg created by his father! Every single time I think about that I feel like I'm shitting bricks.
R.I.P.
