I was always confused by this, Nicktoons cancels the show due to complaints or so i have been told, but constantly reruns it, am i the only one who see the irony.

Loved that show, had so many parts where i couldn't stop laughing lol.

though it ultimately just died for me, episodes didn't really hold any real substance, everything was built off of one big, cynical joke, though i guess that was the shows primary appeal.

Invader Zim is an example where clever writing and dialogue, along with competent/expressive animation, can literally make a show, no need for plot or character complexity/development.

Though that show, like so many others, was really not too good for children lol. Often punishing learning experiences and the prospect of being responsible, making fun of and showing disrespect to just about EVERYTHING, and insulting/parodying the very aspects and institutions of society. Sets a pretty bad example if you ask me.

I heard it was cancelled because of disagreements between Vasquez and Nick.

Invader Zim is one of my favourite shows to have ever seen the light of day. I'm rather bummed that they cancelled it halfway through the second season because it wasn't attracting the 'desired' demographic (That being small children).

In light of recurring economic crises and the demonstrated incompetence of the institutions which were designed to protect and nuture us, I think Invader Zim's portrayal of these institutions isn't necessarily off the mark, even if a bit exaggerated.

Examples:

1. Skool - Worthless waste of time, since degrees aren't worth anything in this economy.
2. President Man - Our government is staffed with idiots who only serve the corporations that donate money to them, much like how the President Man in Zim is bribed by Dib with cookies.

I can go on and on.

I loved that show. I actually wound up quoting one of the episodes while talking to one of my friends the other day about superstructures in space.

Hologram: My people worked themselves into extinction making our planet a working vessel!
Zim: Why would you do that?
Hologram: Because it's cool!

I love all of J. Vasquez's work, so yeah. I still wish there would be an adult swim JTHM series...

Nick has a bad habit of assuming that if it animated it must be for children, the advertisement for Avatar always were geared towards a younger male audience (10), while the show itself aimed much higher and was enjoyable to adults as well, and you could never buy female charterer action figures witch confused me greatly, that's half the main cast unavailable for purchase and it disappointed my little cousin when she wanted the whole set.

Invader Zim is truly the greatest cartoon ever produced, and Nickelodeon were a bunch of idiots to get rid of it. Oh well I got the original box set, so I can watch all 31 episodes whenever I like, but God! the potential this show had was astounding. I loved it as a kid because of the insanity and now I love it as an adult, because of the satire, and the insanity. It seriously pains me to know that there will never be anymore new episodes ever again. It was going to be revealed that Dib was actually a robot, or cyborg created by his father! Every single time I think about that I feel like I'm shitting bricks.

R.I.P. :(

Not really a big fan.

It was a sometimes show. I knew of it but half the time, I'd change the channel to watch something else I preferred instead.

Still... I might try can catch up on it. There were some clips that amused me oh so very much. Like the one about Gir making all those waffles and how he cried whenever Zim kept trying not to eat them.

no it certainly wasn't off the mark, in fact it's portrayal was fairly accurate metaphorically, and would allow for an older audience to associate with as well as recognize the satire (zombie like working people, dumb as rocks/obsessive consumers, mindless drooling neighbors, and ridiculous politicians/incompetent military, with only one person, Dib, being the only sensible, reasonable, and logical person, with his sister being the apathetic bystander).

and this is very much why adults would find the show especially appealing, but is not something that is wholesome for consumption by children, because they're not an audience that can respect such exaggerated satire.

I loved invader Zim! Although I'm British, so I appreciate the dark humor, I can see why some people wouldn't.
