MAY 7TH!?

Seems that most superhero movies are released on or near that date. X-Men: Origins, Spiderman 3, Iron Man 1.

Which is good.
Which is double good for me since my birthday falls on May 22, so i get to watch all these superhero movies for my birthday, and since there always epic it makes it all better.

If you go by the logic that people's stances looking the same in pictures is a rip off, you could say that every movie poster ever rips off every other poster.

Look at all the posters that have just profile shots of characters overlapping one another.

Yup, every blockbuster superhero movie is released on/just before the weekend nearest my Birthday. It's utterly awesome.

Coincidentally (or is it just ripping off blockbuster superhero movie release dates!?), that poster is awesome too.

It's not just the pose that's similar, but the look of the hair and costume, as well. No-one is suggesting that the character himself was ripping off PoP, just the styling of the poster.
But...you can't exactly say that the style is being ripped off when it's been done so many times before. To be quite honest, I don't understand why this is being made such a big problem. If I stood next to you doing the exact same pose as you were, would I really be copying you, or just sharing a style that I like and think would be well liked by others?

Depends -- did you do your hair the same way and are you wearing clothes like mine?

Nobody's making a big deal out of it. We thought it was interesting, we decided to share.

The similarities are notable, I'd wonder if they were both produced by the same artist, I didn't see any referance to who was responsible for the artwork in both cases.

That said it's a generic enough pose/type of character nowadays that I'd actually accept it being coincidental.

I will be cool to watch the next Iron Man movie with an actual villain fight that lasts for more that 10 minutes. Also it would be cool if a bit of the Mandarin was tossed in.

Really? You really think that just because Whiplash's promotional image looks kinda like the PoPWW poster, it means IM2 is ripping it off? Really? In what world does it make sence?

Whiplash uses whips, which limits his posters to 3 things, no weapons at all, arms out with whips down(as seen) and an action shot considering you can't wrap an energy whip around yourself like a real whip. And considering no weapons would leave most people clueless as to who the hell that is, and an action shot would probably be too far away to tell it was Rourke, we are left with the incredibly common dark head-down eyes-up with weapons drawn shot that is in everything, who the OP first connected with Warrior Within.

I feel sry for the guys who thought this was iron-man :O
Anyway i dont think its a rip-off. The Prince never comes to my mind watching this poster. I guess like the creator of the topic you need to be hardcore gamer...n maybe a big fan of Prince of Persia to see this as a rip-off.

They are similar. But, I've seen this quite a few times before from random posters/art. Dark protag or antag dual wielding weapons with long hair and similar clothes. Go play a game that is based in the desert or at least around sand, and you will find someone dressed like that. It's a pretty prevalent archetype, even for nameless characters that just walk by in cutscenes.

Similarities abound, yes. However, they are also prevalent in any desert-dwelling dark/brooding character's design.

I can't believe this is the kind of rubbish the News Room is reduced to. This is a conspiracy theory I would expect some newcomer to post just for the sake of making a thread and get post count up. Or maybe even a troll.

I don't even understand how someone would come up with this. PoP has completely different weapons, is not holding them the same way (PoP's are held backward, while Whiplash's are held forward), and is turned ever so slightly.

yeah even I could tell that wasn't Iron Man, and I have no idea who whiplash is. That's just bad journalism.
Did you even read the article? Or do you just have a crippling fear of parentheses? He flat out says that it's Mickey Rourke as Whiplash at the end of the first paragraph. The title is referring to the poster ripping off PoP, not the character. /rant

Anyway, copied or not, it just looks cool.
Not originally he didn't - you just read the edited article, in the original version Funk thought it was Tony Stark, not Whiplash. He fixed it after it was pointed out in the comments that he had just failed at comics by suggesting that.

Yeah whatever. That is such a common pose, and having hair obscure your face is hardly original. I claim Prince of Persia ripped off my classmate from 1995. He had long hair that hung over half his face and had a very angry emo look on his face all the time. Clearly a copy! I should write a post on it!

Plus look at the PoP boxart anyway, it's not even a full body shot. The AC2 cover is more of a "ripoff" than the Iron Man 2 poster. This may be the first time I get to use this for something not money related but:

"THAT ISN'T NEWS!"
