In a perfect world, every joke would be funny. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world. White people have a history of acting superior to other ethnicities. Other races generally don't have this stigma, which is why they're able to make fun of another race, because it's just assumed that their doing it for humor. But, because of the history White people have, it's just assumed that their jokes are made because they actually believe them, not because they're trying to be humorous.Dazza5897922 said:So if a white person is made fun of it's nothing, but if any other person is made fun of it's rascist?Florion said:For some reason, I can see how the uproar would make sense over the Ching-hong Chinaman, but I just think Mr. James is an adorable joke and I'm not sure why the discrepancy.
Actually... No, No its not funny when they are black, gay or fat... saying that though i actually know a big, gay, black man. He is quite funny, but thats just his personality!jonny bhoy said:so its funny when theyre black, gay or fat or any nationalility for that matter but when theyre American its a nono.............. :/
Depends on where in the country you are. Tokyo is very accustomed to tourists, and stupid ones nonetheless.Keane Ng said:And here I was under the impression that foreigners were treated like gods in Japan. Anime has led me wrong yet again.
I'm pretty sure we'll well overdo. Personally, I would like to see one of these ads. And you know, it is Japan. They do things like this.Sparrow Tag said:Nobody makes fun of white American people nowadays, I think they're well deserving of a good joke.
So, because some white people halfway across the globe oppressed people of other ethnicities half a century ago, I should just lie down and accept racism directed against me?Twilightruler said:White people complaining about racism..now that's comedic. The same people who enslaved black people for somewhere in the area of a century. The same people who tortured japanese prisoners of war and wouldn't release them. The same people who "randomly screen" middle-eastern people at the airport. Honestly though...the double standards just keep on coming.
I love you.scotth266 said:I can see why they'd be upset. Anyone remember how Taco Bell got sued for the Chihuahua, with some people claiming that it was a racist stereotype? If you don't, that's why it disappeared: some Mexicans thought that it was racist. This is just another version of that. If "Yo quiero Taco Bell" had to go in the US, I think it's entirely reasonable that they would make these demands.
Not that I find anything offensive with it, mind you: I just hate the concept of Acceptable Targets. If you can make fun of one group, and use stereotypes of one group, you should be allowed to do so to all groups.
Except it didn't. =PAPPCRASH said:I think this calls for some...EMBARGO! Worked on Cuba.
However, it does leave us with an insane amount of flexiblity and balance.squid5580 said:I see you understand our plight.samsonguy920 said:And how is this different than how people are portrayed in American commercials? Seriously, now! Frankly I find this quite hilarious.
Wait, what? So you say whites live under their own heel of oppression? Seems an awkward way to try to get around, walking on your own head.squid5580 said:It is about time someone stood up for caucasians. For far too long we have lived under the white man's heel of oppression.
really?, that surprises me as when i went to japan we met several helpful people on the street, who offered to give us street directions in englishSusan Arendt said:Well, I only have my own experience to go on, but I was treated three different ways when I was in Tokyo. If I was in a service location (hotel, restaurant), everyone was quite nice and tried their best to be helpful to me, despite my inability to speak Japanese. If I was on the street, I was soundly ignored -- just like everyone else. The one and only time I was ever laughed at for not knowing Japanese was at the Tokyo Game Show, but even then it wasn't a "you dumbass" kind of thing, but rather a "well, how the heck am I going to communicate with you?" rueful sort of chuckle.
All in all, a far better reception than I would get in, say, my home city of Philadelphia.
I see black people in every KFC commercial I've seen. no one ever complains. Who dosn't love chicken?Dazza5897922 said:Fine, so we can put a black person in a KFC ad saying something like "hmm I like chicken" and no black person will have a problem.Yoshemo said:Oh noes! someone not white or black making a race joke? No, no, no. If we're doing stereotypes he has to be like, "Lawdy Lawdy, I sho loves me some chickens!"Dazza5897922 said:Fine, so we can put a black person in a KFC ad saying something like "hmm I like chicken" and no black person will have a problem.Yoshemo said:Oh noes! someone not white or black making a race joke?
