Leaked Metal Gear: Rising Trailer Outs Platinum as Developer [UPDATED]

See, call me crazy but...I'm actually pretty psyched for this.

Yeah, it's different gameplay style and genre, yeah it's not as stealth based, and yes it seems to be going for something different. BUT! But..they aren't including Snake in this so, as a result, i can live with it.

This is about cyborg Ninja Raiden and how he became how he was in Metal Gear Solid 4. If this was about Snake doing this sort of stuff, i would be damned pissed as it would be a betrayal of character and genre. But, as this is a game about a totally different character who wouldn't really be able to have a similar gameplay style, and for whom this type of behavior isn't out of character for, I'm able to accept it.

So, bring this on Kojima and Platinum: I look forward to seeing the finished product and i know it will be just as awesome as always! ^^

This'll be interesting to try. Hopefully its for PS3 also, since Metal Gear SOlid main franchise HAS been 80% Sony.

I really can't believe that gamers have become so jaded that they can watch a trailer of a man who is also a cyborg ninja go toe to leg in a sword fight against a Metal Gear Ray before proceeding to throw it into the air then slice it apart and scoff at it!

Can you really say that it doesn't look fun as hell?

YEAH!!! Finally!! A Metal Gear Game that does Justice to the Metal Gear Solid 4 Raiden!

And just looking at the cynicism of the community just disappoints me.
I thought we were supposed to be open to change in a game series, especially when it's no longer about the previous main character, Solid Snake.

This is MGS4 Raiden. The Raiden that got sick of the bullshit and reclaimed his title as Jack the Ripper he obtained as his time as a Child Soldier under the supervision of Solidus Snake.

Plus if Kamiya is getting involved this gives me more reason to buy it.
Platinum games may have released only 2 games, but both games have proven to be excellent when getting the player involved with the game rather than letting the cutscenes do it for you.

I think a hack 'n' slash style game would be good as a little mini game or as some kind of 'special mission', but I'd hate for it to take over the whole game.

Yes, "revengeance" is an actual word, dating back to the 16th century. Combined with the tagline "Revenge with a VENGEANCE", though, it's clear that they're getting a start on the whole redundant-dialogue thing right from the trailers.

Ok this looks awesome and bad at once. If this is real the game could be fun as hell but I don't think it would fit anywhere near the normality of the MGS series as is though I could be wrong. Still if this is true I think I'll be picking this up.

It's an offshoot gameplay wise, but Kojima has been clear on that from the beginning. Everyone should have known when Raiden was announced as the player character that this would be a lot more action focused.

When I was playing that game I was already calling bullshit on those scenes, as they were incredibly out of place, made no sense, and nobody even tried to explain them later.
To me this is the same issue with the new DMC game, just make it's own series and people will be interested.

Fun isn't necessarily the issue, you can play a game, have fun, and still despise the game due to things like inconsistencies, story making little to no sense, characters acting out of character, villains doing evil things for no reason other than being the villain, or in the case of MGS 4, having the two sides fight for absolutely no reason than you want to have conflict.

Before you say something along the lines of "But games are meant to be all about gameplay" you need to look at the whole of a series instead of looking at the one title, the MGS games are based partially around gameplay, and mostly around story, so expecting people to just blindly accept this when it makes no sense in context is absurd.

i think the jack the ripper thing at the end of the trailer was a bit much but the rest i liked. and as DustyDrB has pointed out much of the stuff Raiden does in this trailer ain't different from what he did in the trailer. the throwing of a Ray is kinda overshadowed by the fact he was able to stop Arsenal Gear from moving for at least 20 seconds with only one arm.

in addition stealth is not required since Raiden appears to be taking part in a war on the front lines, while snake was always sent on stealth missions because thats what he does best.

Spoiler: Not to mention Grey fox could perform similar feats...

I'm genuinely excited for this game.

The whole retro circa 90s anime vibe really resonated close to home. The music reminded me of Street Fighter 2 (the bit where Bison and his generals are walking from the harrier to the control room), the art style reminded me of Guyver (especially that font) and the presented style of the trailer is seeping with the old Manga movie trailers you used to get before the movies. (ya know, back when anime was good)

So... he can pick up and throw Ray and he can stop a gear in its tracks with a single arm.... yet he has to slash ten times at a normal human enemy to drop em.... yeah this game is really consistent...

Terror tactics. Would you want to fight a guy who in blink of an eye turned you're team mate into mince meat that would require a shovel and a bag to send him home? No point trying to scare a robot now is there?

Also the transformation to a cyborg is a mentally damaging one, grey fox had moments of madness and I can see Raiden having the similar ones.

Great, another dull hack and slash with annoying characters.
The thing about the whole MGS thing is that it is something different. Nothing else is quite like it. This was what I was hoping for from Rising, I know it was going to be hack and slash in part, but given Platinum's other offerings I can pretty well guess that there will be nothing else to this game.
The crazy plot will make less sense than the rest of MGS, and will be a whole lot more badly told. The bosses will probably be entirely obnoxious and pointlessly difficult, while at the same time having targets painted on them in the form of glowing bits. I think it just looks annoying, and I am bitterly disappointed.
