The funny thing is that nobody uses their current platform anyway. I can't see this making a big difference.

Wow... 8 pages in and the flaming continues...

Right I am sold on this!
A really good barometer on whether something is actually going to be fun and entertaining is just how insanely over the top angry you guys all get whenever something like this is announced, quite frankly I know we are not the target audience, and quite frankly I don't care, it isn't hurting anyone and it certainly helps to have that extra integration between our systems and social networks (PC-Facebook-Xbox), and having LIVE work across all 3 will probably see some new people introduced to the medium.

I guess I will never understand with the escapist audience, here is what I have learned to expect from 2 1/2 years of lurking these forums (with and without an account)
A successful franchise gets its latest instalment: worst thing in the world
Bungie does anything: worst thing in the universe
Valve does something: OH MY GOD THIS IS AWESOME
microsoft does something: OH MY GOD KILL IT WITH FIRE!
Bioware releases a game that changes up the formula for something that they haven't rehashed for the last 13 years: What the hell are they doing?!
Bioware releases any other game: They didn't try hard enough to change and innovate!
Blizzard does anything: Wheres my wallet?!

Is this one of those things that one is not supposed to "get"? cos I don't think I will ever understand the audience here, I mean I love it, the forums are fun to lurk/hang out, but I never understand the instantly negative reaction to absolutely anything that is not valve/old school bioware/ blizzard

so this is where I explain away my rather low post count by saying, I am just too intimidated to post on some of the threads here, cos it feels like if I do I am likely to be eaten...
Still, love you guys, you crazy crazy guys
You're being a bit melodramatic there. A lot of the time we're just joking around or, more often, the people who are posting in the threads you list are the people that have that opinion and aren't a real representation of the opinion of the Escapist.

If there's a thread on "This Change Sucks" most of the people posting in that thread are people who are interested in the subject matter and because of that, generally agree with the OP.

Father into your hands I commend my spirit. Father why have you forsaken me.

I don't even play PC games but this disturbed me.

I see what you mean, I think its easy to get a bit confused/scared when scanning the forums because there always tends to be a high quantity of posts that seem a bit over the top, I don't honestly believe there is an "average escapist member", but often times its hard to tell whether something is good old fashioned fun or actual malicious hatred, take the news story that this thread started for example, 8 pages in and I just see a LOT of hatred, this can't be Aspie exclusive surely?

Anyway I definitely understand the final point (re: people agreeing with OP), however, once again, it is never possible to be 100% sure, but it seems to definitely be the case with dragon age!

Finally, with regards to my captcha: what the hell is a lidap submodule?!
captcha is one weird system

Microsoft has lost the core market to the PS3 and trying to recover by moving in on the Wii's market. Problem is, everyone who wants a Wii already has one.

The only thing worth paying extra for in a game is well thought out DLC, that adds party members/new maps/more missions/etc. (And the occasional headgear for you avatar when you don't know what else to do with that leftover 100 Microsoft points :p)

But the way the whole "Transaction" part of the video made it look like in the future we'll have to buy everything and beyond so that we can truly "enjoy" the game :/

For the rest of the video, I could care less, if people want to wast RL money of Farmville or dressing their avatar in the latest trends they can be my guest. Casual gamers need respect too, even if they're the REALLY casual kind...

Micro-transactions are the future man! I can't wait till we get to buy our ammo for guns!
I was thinking the same thing. While I agree that it probably won't come to that I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft tries it.

OT: Oh well. At least they're trying to get women involved in gaming.

Kill me now. Please. I beg of you!
Is there some specific way you would like to die?
A copy of certain game in your hand? While playing certain game? What soundtrack you would like to accompany your death?

I may not be professional but I like to be user friendly. Unlike what Microsoft is planning to do... /drum fill

Pardon the obvious and bad pun.

Ever since Valve came up with Steam Microsoft has been looking for a way to edge them out.

And while their lack of gaming savvy (The Xbox and 360 as a whole can be described as something not made by gamers, and not entirely for them either) still shows they're not exactly aiming to capitalize on gamers either. The people who are going to follow their product will either seek it out voluntarily or will do so because their game doesn't give them a choice. What they want are all those casual gamers and the types who go for zynga games and what not. It's the perfect example of a low cost project that typically yields high returns, and what more it looks like they're trying to make a bridge between their old games for windows live system that absolutely sucked (FFS, even turning it one was a more complicated system than what I had to do for steam, which turns on whenever windows does. Hard.) and something that seems like XBLA.

Still, doesn't strike me as the future of PC gaming because this looks like it'll be flash games and titles that stay within that performance range. They're trying to out-do Blizzard in terms of keeping graphics behind the times.

Way to spit in everyone's face microsoft.

Oh well, it'll never happen. As long as there are devs, there will be proper games.

Another means to fool us, manipulate our wants and emotions so that we buy shit we don't need.

Micro-transations, ick. Just call it gradual theft and the witholding of content.
