Typical woman, she buys a new outfit, but doesn't even put it on---just some random other thing she already had in her huge wardrobe.

The thought of being expected to pay real money for my avatar is bull. Especially because I have no interest in making my Avatar look like me. I wanted my Avatar to look like Baron Samedi.

Hey, couple this with the incredibly beautiful, cross-platform Unigine [https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Unigine], and 2012 might just be the year of the Linux desktop...

[small](No, I know that's not very likely, but one can dream...)[/small]

I don't really see it as much of a problem. I mean, even if they start producing games for more casual players, which isn't that bad, we are still going to have companies that'll be making games more targeted towards "core" gamers. I "think" they want to see if they can broaden their demographic, not just kickk us out for casual games. That would be stupid.

Somebody at Microsoft really liked Mamoru Hosoda's Summer Wars [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1474276/]...

And erm.. Microsoft... What happens if we don't have any friends?
Ok, firstly... THATS LOOKS AWESOME.

OT: Personally, I don't think that looks to bed. I don't mind the Avatar system on the Xbox, In fact, I'm slightly saddened that we on 'Games for windows live' Don't get access to it.

I'll just copy/paste what I said about this earlier:

So... who are they targeting with this?

The casual market is already on facebook, and GFWL is nowhere near as user-friendly, so they won't be using this.
The hardcore PC gamer market isn't exactly on the best of terms with Microsoft for obvious reasons.
And everyone else either doesn't care or just uses Steam.
Any Xbox owners they'd hope to target will have Xbox's, and won't really care. They'll just do the stuff the video showed on their 360's. Unless they're going after the people who'll want to change Xbox stuff on their PC's. In which case thats a pretty specific market to target. Since anyone with a gaming PC will probably be turned off by the look of all of this.

So... yeah, whats their plan, exactly?
To target women. Didn't you notice how all of the avatars were women in their 30s-40s? They were all soccer moms. We only get one guy at the end, and that was clearly an afterthought.

It's really rather disgusting that they have such a low regard for women. Did you see the one where she buys a dress for her avatar and then jumps up in the air like her life is complete? Sickening.

I'm not a PC gamer myself, seeing as how I don't have *that* much patience for frustration, but is anyone who is really surprised about this? I mean, really surprised? I know it's fun to be all angry and pissy about how Microsoft is ruining PC gaming and stretch the old hyperbole muscles, but honestly? Considering the influx of those insipid Xynga games and the whole avatar thing from the XBLA, I would have thought the PC gamers out there would have been able to look into their crystal balls (hopefully operating with an optimal amount of RAM and the newest NVIDIA graphics card) and see this coming. Yes, it's gaudier than Adam Lambert's dinner jacket as designed by Liberace, but this is also an internally produced publicity short that probably won't look much like the finished product. It's like those old books that described the internet as floating through a mystical purple stream of ones and zeros on a surfboard. It's a fictionalized version of something that, in the end, will probably look uncomfortably similar to what is already in place over in XBLA country.

(I'd also like to casually mention that as flawed a vision of the future as it is, at least it's some innovation in the PC gaming field. That is, innovation that's not Gary's Mod or a Crysis sequel)

Gee, thanks Microsoft. Way to insult nearly everyone who uses your products.
I'll be sure to remember this next time I'm trying to decide what game to buy.

Wow this video made my eye twitch..

Also, I like how they respected the typical stereotypes with the female avatar shopping for a dress and playing Farmville and Bejeweled while the two guys were enjoying a "real" game. Go Microsoft for making progress in strengthening popular opinion! [/endsarcasm] (which is not to say I would've had the roles inverted, but man.. I never feel represented in these types of ads.. who cares about avatars)

Sorry, I'm a little confused here...

Was this an ad convincing us all to ditch Microsoft and go to Sony, or to ditch Microsoft and go to Nintendo?

The only thing that unnerved me was the micro transaction thingy. Soooo, will it come down to this? The games will have 2 or 3 weapons and if I want any more I will have to BUY them? As in with REAL MONEY?
That seems to be the direction things are going in for both the pc and the consoles. The real problem is that gamers have proven that they are willing to happily pay for every little thing and not ever ask any questions. DLC is overpriced and used way too often to shore up games lean on content.

I can see why MS wants to get people off playing on the pc, they make so much more off the 360 users.

I believe it was a stealth advertisement from Valve to make us ditch Microsoft and go on Steam.

When this happens, I will treat it as a sign from God, telling me to put away my gamepad for good.
