Gee, it almost seems as though Microsoft wants to kill Hardcore gaming on the PC.
If they can't get in on the casual action...they really don't want much of a part of it (it's painfully obvious who their target audience is).

That's fine. I still have my library and Steam.

So...business as usual.

Micro-transactions are the future man! I can't wait till we get to buy our ammo for guns!
That guy one-shotted the sniper. I think they were showing that ammo costs money ;-)

I literally screamed in horror.

My only hope is that Microsoft intended to announce this on April 1st.
What greater joke could there be than this monstrosity?

God help us, it's Facebook all over again. I always knew Microsoft had a few loose screws, but this is insulting. PC games are not about Famville, Bejeweled, etc. Doom, the first mass produced video game EVER was on PC, not Xbox, not Playstation, not Wii. PC. Every great 'classic' game was/is on PC. Counter-strike, Half-Life, Myst, Doom, Diablo, Starcraft, etc. Some of the best selling games of all time are on PC, i.e. The Sims, World of Warcraft, etc. I'll stick with Steam, which, for all it's bugs and silliness, gives me exactly what I want without any thing I don't. Microsoft can go join Nintendo and EA in the catagory of 'Companies who piss me off because they do stupid things.'

I of cource don't mean this in a good way, mit looks like Microsoft gave up on gamers and is moving on to moms and ten year olds.

WHY!?
Because of the Wii.

I might have just thrown up in my mouth a little. It looks like instead of actually fixing GFWL, which at this point is a buggy, and poorly implemented version of Steam, they're making this into a buggy and poorly implemented version of facebook. And my bet is that it will be just as successful as GFWL. (Read: A colossal failure) *sigh*

But at least we still have Battlefield 3 to look forward to.
This.
They have trouble separating reality and good ideas from super shit ones...
Must be because they have eaten too much 1000 dollar bills :(

I actually applaud Microsoft for this. Causual gamers are cash cows waiting to be milked in over priced micro transactions. As a Golden Age gamer I say this is a great idea since it will mean more money in the video games industry to make better games and make gaming into a more acceptable social activity and less of a sin against moralities like the news media keeps proclaiming.

So a lot of the Hardcore gamers are pissed off, big deal! I was pissed of when the Hardcore audience was formed with the help of the Xbox and thanks to your money games targeted at Golden Age gamers are more awesome then we could ever conceive. Just think of the Casual gamer as more of a giant wallet with money to spread all over the games industry.

At first, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought, "This has to be sarcasm. The Escapist mods are taking a poke at the pretentious douchebags in the hardcore gamer demographic, this is some Colbert-style overanalysis.

Then I watched the video.

And my desk gained yet another forehead-shaped dent in it.
