This is what you all f**king get for buying the Wii and into DLC. Congratulations for bringing this sh*t storm upon yourselves.
Yes, how dare they buy completely unrelated consoles that they enjoy, and spending their money on things that they want to spend it on! How dare they become a demographic that someone would release a completely optional program to sell to! Those bastards! They have no right!
If people buy a console aimed at casual gamers and make it the best selling, of course it is going to impact gaming for everyone. And if people buy into the ludicrous crap that is DLC, of course it is going to be used more and more.
Which part of this doesn't make sense or seems illogical?
I never said I didn't understand your train of thought, what I don't agree with is your condemning of an entire demographic of gamers because someone made a product directed at them. If you don't like the product, then don't buy it, but don't be disrespectful to people for the hobbies that they enjoy. I'm sure lots of people think blowing $60 on a AAA game is ludicrous crap.

If this video is about Microsoft's plans for the PC then why did the majority of the video show things that require only a tiny fraction of a PC's processing power?
Because it's not their plans for the PC in its entirety, and elitists are blowing this way out of proportion.

I think this may have over-estimated the casual markets ability to last, and core gamers, as we're seeing from the (frankly deserved) flak it's getting in the comments. Casual gamers will get bored (I think anyway), and the core will just be disgusted by it.

Bravo microsoft

Whenever this atrocious horror of a program gets released, it will download itself as a hidden update to all Windows systems, automatically detect all your games, move their folders and make them inaccessible from any other program or shortcut. You just KNOW it's gonna happen.

Oh, plus an unremovable Firefox toolbar.

Most of it is innocuous- so they're trying to get women into gaming more, and expand their casual appeal. That's all well and good.

I don't think Microsoft is going to have much affect on PC gaming as a whole- you don't have to use Games for Window Live- or whatever they're calling it.

Actually, the only part of the video you didnt malign is the part I find scary: micro-transactions, ug.
try playing a legitimate copy of dead rising of bulletstorm, you NEED an account to play them and MS could easly force users on their ouwn version of steam that they selfproclaimed the future of gaming when it onyl showed things that have been done and it seems that MS was able to merge all the bad things a common pc gamer feared into one dark abyss they call future

MS is late for the party and if they want a good share of this while competing with steam or D2D they have to inovate not bring a clone of Xbox tot he pc
Well, good point. I guess it didn't register since I would never play that kind of game. I have a feeling Microsawft isn't interested in the games I play. And I have a feeling that GFWL is going to have as much impact on the world as Zune.

Leaked Microsoft Video Reveals Horrible Future for PC Gaming

An internal Microsoft video showing the company's dark, horrific vision for the future of the "Windows Gaming Experience" has found its way onto YouTube [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBPYdgy35KA&feature=player_embedded]. [Caution: not for the faint of heart.]

That which is seen cannot be unseen, which is a real shame when it comes to things like this video created by Microsoft that details the company's plan for a connected, social, casual gaming experience characterized by bright colors, microtransactions and ceaseless interaction with online "friends." The importance of Avatars, representing the "style, attitude and character" of each person's online identity, is a big point of emphasis, as is the ability to easily search for, find and share new games and media across multiple platforms.

The focus here is clearly on the casual market. The video kicks off with Battlefield 2 [http://www.farmville.com/] by buying him a better gun and then immediately misspells "pwn3d."

I don't even know what to say here. Maybe I'm being overly harsh, or maybe I'm bitter because I'm feeling left out, but if this is what Microsoft means when it talks about taking the PC seriously as a gaming platform, I think I'll just go back to watching television.

I died inside a little.

PC gaming is taking its final breaths, about to be swept under the rug by people more concerned with pointless passtimes that qualify a time sink at best, an addiction at worst.

I fail to see why one would supply the demand when the demand calls for a supply of drivel. Gamers change drastically over time. It's a fact, but it's propagated by what we're exposed to. I fell in love with RPGs because I was exposed to neoPets (who remembers that?) first. I followed an ad for AdventureQuest (who remembers THAT?) and eventually found myself playing Baldur's Gate. The best path I can see a love of farmville developing is a desire to flaunt the IQ score you pay $10 a day for or a tampon fetish.

Note this: Just as all Xbox games seem to require being connected to Xbox live, so to will all PC games to Windows Live. PC games will be controlled by Microsoft's agenda and thus diminish in number. PCs already have the problem of addictive casual games, like tablets come with pre-installed, why does Microsoft feel the need to force these to dominate?

Profit nothing! In a socialist state we would have no need for profit and innovation would be driven simply by will to create!
...Comerade.

Kurtz said it best in The Heart of Darkness: "The horror! The horror!"

I seriously think a part of me died watching that.

Hehe, PC fans can eat their hearts out. So much for the wii dragging down the consoles and making them less of gaming machines. Looks like the shit is hitting ALL the fans.

Did that video remind anyone of Inception? An avatar controlling an avatar within a game who is gaming... levels upon levels people.

I suppose the point here is that MS wants to expand the horizon of gaming to include the giant elephant in the room. Honestly, I'm completely surprised that no other site has unseated Facebook as the internet juggernaut it still is after these years. While I've known MS to just basically rip off a good idea and slap their logo on it and change a few words, I wouldn't entirely be surprised if MS developed their own version of Facebook just for the WGX, but that doesn't really make it a good idea.

While microtransactions are a key point in the gaming economy, MS doesn't seem to do too bad already with XBL. Pretty sure that Call of Duty has proved that point in the last two or three years with people spending millions of dollars to download map packs, so for MS to want to expand on this does make sense from a business standpoint. Won't be too long for government to come to the door with their hands out looking for taxes to be imposed on these microtransactions in the future, if they aren't already trying to do it now.

I really wonder how long it will be before the changes we saw in this video become reality. As long as they don't slap it together at the last minute and throw it out there, it could stand a chance of making GWL what it should have been.
