I think some more game modes would be good such as

Survival- You would hold out against zombies and special infected (player controlled) for as long as you could until you all die and then the other team has a go and the winner is the team which survived the longest.

Prequel- You would be in places where the infection has just started to spread you have to try and avoid zombies get some weapons then meet up with the other survivors and try to fight your way out.

Challenges- Various challenges with players competing, such as who can snipe the most zombies in a time period, or just like in dawn of the dead remake you have to search crowds for a specific zombie to snipe. The premise in the game world for this could be the survivors are somewhere safish and have to starve off boredom

Rescue and Escort- Have to find a scientist who may have a zombie cure, and then escort him to an extraction point, would have another team as infected who would try to kill the scientist.

Scavenge- Could have a mode where various teams must leave there safe houses fight there way through zombies and get supplies, while also fighting the other survivors teams. Teams could be regular people, Cults, police ect. and some people could play as special infected trying to kill and stop everyone.

I know you're not supposed to win in VS mode, but a player smoker being able to drag a player off things ruins the experience because unless you abandon that player you have to redo a chunk of area and will most likely get stuck there.
For example in No Mercy the 3rd stage, when you run out of the diner and onto the lift and across the roof smokers pull people off the roof left and right. The players pulled off have to consistently run back up the lift and across the roof, and by the time the players get back on the lift and across the roof again another smoker spawns and does it again.
There are a ton of points in No Mercy where a smart smoker can absolutely gib a party and make them redo a chunk of area
I once sucked Zoey off the chopper right before it took off. It was my greatest L4D moment ever.

The Half Life series had more story too it. I actually wouldn't mind hints at a story. Basically, if they made the graffiti on the walls hint at the origins, or Easter eggs in random side rooms hinting at the extent of the infection, where the government is, maybe even a vauge hint at the origin. I think that including a straight up story would ruin the feel of the game, but if the denizens of the internet could team up, and make a rough timeline, that would be cool.

This isn't CoD. Valve don't churn out sequels every couple of years. TF2 came 9 years after the first one, HL2 was 6 years after HL. Even then there is no guarantee they would make a sequel.

I have to agree with people who said L4D feels unfinished. There is so much more content they could add to this game before they even think about doing a sequel. Even TF2 still gets content updates.

And HL2 episode 1 and 2 were pretty darn quick to come out after HL2.

Given that the earlier examples are many years old, perhaps, just perhaps, they've changed their style. Who knows?

too early man, really... left4dead has only been out, what, a month now? and you already want a sequel? just go play the game and enjoy it in all it's greatness, and wait for the mods if you're playing on PC, or pray for DLC if you're playing the 360 version like me....

How about we just say 'L4D sequel' and not this made up Left 2 Die crap.

And I haven't played it, but I want it. But it must be pretty shitty if you're already waiting for a sequel.

How about a Koala mode? Just to see if Yahtzee's theory really does hold water? Other than that, I guess I'll have ideas for a sequel once I've played it in three days time.

No. It is great. the thing is, we are basically just brainstorming a bunch of things that could be added to the game to make it better.
so far we have:
1)More. Campaigns.
2)more boss zombie types.
3)melee weapons/ more weapon types
4)slightly less linear(Different paths)
5)Differences in characters/ Character customization
6)more characters
7)More zombie skins.
8)more game-play types
there we go. enumerated list for simplicities sake.

The episodes are more like expansion packs than full games.

Your point being? They were working on a sequel to Portal just after that was released as well, understandable given the sucess, but still. Also note the series with Half-life, opposing force, blue shift, decay. Compare Counterstrike that exists in five or six variations, as well.

Valve is just not as obvious as others (EA) with milking their products, or releasing sequels. They sort of hide them instead, but don't think they're not doing it. I'm almost positive we'll see sequels or expansion packs popping up all over the place for Left 4 dead.

Id like to see funny 'one-off' game modes. Like surviving 'on the run' in wide open spaces instead of having linear paths, or a 'defend-the-structure' scenario. Fun 'mini-games' if you will =)

I once sucked Zoey off the chopper right before it took off. It was my greatest L4D moment ever.
My crowning achievement was getting spawned as a tank right on the ramp as the survivors were running to the chopper and punching the survivors in the chopper which sent 3 of them out the back and off the roof to their deaths.

I'm not sure about a sequel, but in terms of DLC I've got plenty of ideas.

Left 2 Dead could be a game mode all of its own. Shorter campaign, only two survivors, less special zombies but a hell of a lot more everyday infect. Or, theres just as many special infect, but theres a great chance of getting them off by yourself (the gap between getting tongued and losing control is greater, giving you more time to spin around. theres a simular machanic with the hunter, where theres a many 2 second gap where the survivor still has the gun in his hand while the hunters on top). The maps could be made specifically for left 2 dead, more clostiphobic corridors and less open areas. I just love that feeling you get in left 4 dead where theres only two of you left and your just hobling along thinking "shit shit shit shit shit shit shit". If this was a harder game mode all on its own it would be awesome.

Also, more weapons would be cool, like a flame thrower, and some melee weapons.

Obviously more maps. One I had was to have it set in a england city, like london or my home town of canterbury, allowing for a very gothic setting. The hold out could be on a cathedral.

Also, more skins and voices for the survivors. The only characters I really like at the moment are Louis and Zoey. Louis, because he feels like a real person in a real situation, and zoey because shes hot.

EDIT: Also, more special infected. I know theres balancing issues but if you made them map specific, like instead of a tank, you get this stupidly fast, low health high damage zombie instead (I can just imagine a zombie scuttling along on all fours with a huge pair of fangs or something)

The ability to melee an infected to the ground, then use pills & a medkit (full duration use for both) to cure the individual, this bot can either assist the player or simply follow and be a priority target over the player that revived them.

Personally I'd rather there was some sort of prequel with an actual story to it that followed the four characters at the beginning of the outbreak, and how they ended up together.

That and extra campaigns for the original Left 4 Dead as DLC.
