LucasArts on one side, EA on the other.

Bioware is so fucked.
How in the name of all that's hellish and unholy did they manage to get The Old Republic out between the two publishers?
300 million dollars and an untold amount of years?
if you throw enough money at something, it does happen.

All that's needed now is for THX to fumble and produce a movie that sounds like it's being played down fifty feet of garden hose and Lucas' legacy officially curls itself around a Glock.
That (Sort of) already happened. The THX certified DVD of the Highlander Director's Cut is one of the ugliest DVDs ever made, being apparently a straight transfer of the (good for laserdisc, but in need of some changes for everything to work properly on DVD) Laserdisc release, which had actually earned its THX certification. Plus they were apparently having issues with theaters paying to re-certify, which led to them relaxing the standards on theaters that had been certified at least once before (like, letting the theater's in house sound guy do the certification relaxed), which eventually led to them being borderline irrelevant. I recently checked to see if there were any THX certified theaters near my house, and was shocked to find out that there wasn't a single one in the state of Florida, with the two nearest being in Georgia and North Carolina, respectively.

OT: Man is that sad. Lucasarts published a lot of the games on my list of favorites. I knew they had slipped in the last decade, but I didn't know they fell this far.

Edit: I should note the sound quality on that DVD was alright, if a bit light on bass. It was the video that was the problem; full of analog dot crawl left over from the laserdisc, non anamorphic, and the still image gallery was done laserdisc style, where you have to pause it and go frame by frame to see the images -- a feature that not all DVD players support.
Ouch. That's bad. It's like he's lost touch with his own company or he's deliberately spiting us for not liking his recent work.

i think its the 'leading the studio on to drain to their money' that's pissing people off the most.
Could you kindly rephrase that? I'm not trying to be a dick; I seriously think there's word missing there.
>.> or a typo but i see what you mean, lemme try again, with less 'me sucking at typing'

also, no, i don't know why i had 'the' in there twice, but it happens enough that i think its just a weird typing 'tic' of mine

Lost touch is more like it. The Highlander DVD was a really early release (there's a copyright date of 1997 on my copy, which would make it one of the first ever), and the theater problems took a long time to come to fruition. I think it's more important that Tom Holman (the Lucasfilm employee whose project it originally was) left; THX without Tom Holman is like Valve without Gabe Newell.

You know, I have never really resented a publisher as much as this to say I will never buy another game endorsed by them.

Not even EA.

The battlefront franchise was one of the most successful things they've ever released.
And they destroyed it.
Because they thought something the public was itching for wouldn't sell.

Until I see news that Battlefront 3 is resurrected, they won't get a damn penny from me. Ever.

I repeat, NEVER have I been this pissed over this type of bullfuckery.

I hope everyone is happy, this is the gaming industry today. It's no wonder everyone with even the slightest spark of imagination or intelligence goes to make their own indie studio so they don't have to work with any of the big names.

And some people wonder what the big reason is for hating publishers.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Ever notice that when money is the dominant factor in anything, all creativity, innovation and depth (common sense is included with LucasArts) suddenly becomes non-existant? Greed = disaster. History has proven this many times and current trends in human behavior show that it won't be stopping in the foreseeable future

So... Lucasarts played a big hand in the demise of the developers of Timesplitters? And the death of Battlefront 3?

All my hate... they get all my fucking hate.

Activision and EA to a lesser extent as well. Mainly because it's just par for the goddamn course with them.
Timesplitters is still being released though.

This is why executives should actually KNOW their product and not just business, this problem crops up all the time and leads to monsters.

The first statement seemed to be wrong...

"Back in the heyday of the 1990s, LucasArts was one of the good guys. Titles like X-Wing, Jedi Knight and Monkey Island were pillars of PC gaming, but then something happened. Star Wars Battlefront, an FPS .... with a completely screwed multiplayer system that rivaled dyslexic blind BASIC coding was released in 2004 and was sadly an extremely successful game for LucasArts and the 2005 Battlefront 2 was equally shitty..."

Fixed.

Anything with the name "Lucas" destroys its IP like a puppy in a pool full of piranha sealed in a acrylic bubble full of carbon monoxide catapulted into the sun.

If LucasArts does not make one, more, game... consider it a mercy killing. No one remembers what the f'ing horse looked like, or even it's name it's been kicked and beaten for so long... and people are surprised that all they're concerned about is MONEY? Really? Did you hear they're releasing Star Wars Episodes 4,5,6,1,2,3... but MIRRORED to give a completely different experience!

Everyone keeps say oh, Battlefront, It was a Battlefield rip off with a star wars skin.
What we really need is a Jedi Knight 3 OR another X wing and Tie fighter

Wow, just wow. Battlefront 3 was game I anticipated for ages but lost hope a few years ago due to all the development hell going on. Now I'm hearing that LucasArts deliberately put it into development hell because they didn't want they game to get finished. I honestly hope this shit isn't true, but after seeing the likes of EA and Activision... *le sigh* and to think that I still have Battlefront 2 and have been thinking about picking up the original sometime. <:(

EDIT:

I suddenly Despise LucasArts as much as EA...

They couldn't have even the smallest amount of faith that Battlefront 3 would more than make up for it's costs? 'cause it would have.
Basically what this guy said. Though I still try to live up to my policy of "never hate" and am one of those bronies who actually believes in the whole "love and tolerance" motto (before I even got into MLP *hipster shades*), shit like this does push me a bit.

This does explain though why LucasArts stopped being even remotely relevant years ago, so I guess there's a small silver lining in this after all. I'm still very upset buy this, however.
EA shut down the studio that made BFII. 2 days after acquiring them.

If only we could make a giant LucasArts guy with a sad face and put it on the studio's front lot... a little too drastic perhaps?

Hear that? It's the flavor of the month train pulling up, ready to take half this thread to the "We hate LucasArts" stop. Lots of return passengers from the EA stop, I see.

I love how this site works.

All I read was
Darrell Rodriguez is the guy who killed Free Radical and prevented Timesplitters 4.
I rarely think hate mail is a good idea, but in this case I think maybe slip a cheeky bomb in there with it.

Please people, don't act surprised at this. We've already been told that this is how publishers act on a regular basis by Brian Fargo. There is only one way to fight this bullshit. You know which way I'm talking about.
I completely agree

Let me guess, "Blow it up! Blow it all up!"

God I'm getting old

Anyway, normally I'd say no they're just a bunch of idiots or in the famous words of Yahtzee, "A bunch of Chimpanzee's with down-syndrome." Though if what is said is true then this is all pretty damning. Yet, I can't say I'm surprised
