personally I couldn't care less, Garrus' sex scene is one of my fav scenes out of the whole game (So much awkward/awesome dancing). However there is alot of hypocrisy coming from that statement, if "sex and nudity" and other mature content don't make 18+ games then why have Bioware included it? Most of design of the planets for Mass Effect pretty much boils down to, "Wow look all the planets we've designed allow slavery, and drug use, and strippers, it's so hardcore and mature!"

Bioware seem to be insulting the audience that their games seem to be aimed at, which is rather retarded.

I wish people would grow up and get over this subject already.
You see worse things on friggin TV, no reason why it should be so scandalous in video games.
If anything it's more readily accessible by TV and any other media than games, in which you have to work to get to it (discounting Custer's revenge of course).
I get why people get hung up on this stuff, I just don't get why they chose to be like a pack of puritans when it comes to games.

The "outrage" over the scene in ME1 was hillarious with how tasteful and minimal it was, but just typical of the double standard, fine for TV and movies, in a video game though and you must be horrible.

nice they say this, and if i were working there, i'd still not want tits in the games mostly because graphics aren't perfect, so it's like a cartoon, and that's kind of sick
Why is it sick, exactly? I'm honestly confused. What's different about a cartoon?

Your post is embarrassingly off topic.

I like romance and relationships in games, but I can take or leave the sex/nudity. I am neither offended by it or greatly desirous of it.
Much the same here, if its part of a game, cool, if not, cool. As long as it is done well thats the main thing!

To me, sex scenes in a game or movie are almost pointless, sometimes only included to for the thrill, not to add to the story.
Don't agree there. Sometimes a good sex scene can almost make the story. Consider Sam Lowry's scene in Brazil, or for a more complete action Wild Things, Cruel Intention, Rear Window, The Hunger or even Brokeback Mountain.

Granted, 9 times out of 10 they're only titillation, and 8.5 of those are simply pink bits flapping like grunting turkeys; but I wouldn't be too quick to disregard the idea of a powerful sex scene.
Yup, that's why I put "sometimes." I'm not counting it out as something which can be significant by any means.
I think it's partly because people have the wrong idea about what makes a sex scene work. Remember David Cage saying that Heavy Rain isn't porn because "It's about real characters having emotions and doing what adults do when they fall in love"? But "X and Y are in love" alone isn't justification for a sex scene. The justification for a sex-scene (in a story-heavy game like Mass Effect or Heavy Rain) should be the same as the justification for any other element in the story - does it advance the story? Does it reveal new aspects of the characters involved and their relationship?

When I think about what makes a sex scene effective, I always think of the book Sword at Sunset, by Rosemary Sutcliff. When the characters Artos and Guenhumara have sex, they're not "doing what adults do when they fall in love" - they're not in love, at least at first. It's a political marriage, and their relationship is pretty dysfunctional. But the sex scenes between them aren't mere titillation either. Remove those scenes, and you'd lose important parts of Artos' and Guenhumara's characterisation.

Well, it doesn't matter to me what level the scenes are at, what did matter to me was that Bioware was able to put what they want into their game without fear of reprisal from the general public at the same level poor Mass Effect one got.

It's their game, and as long as the quality is where it usually is, they can have it as tame or as raunchy as they feel appropriate, which I think they did splendidly.

Everything had balance and meaning, with various elements of the story being reflected in the different scenes, "Paramour" scenes included.

Nudity or not, you gotta admit that the "outfits" of most of the female characters are skanky as all hell.

I am a little immature when it comes to sex in games, in ME1 after the romantic scene I half expected the entire crew to shout out an enthusiastic chorus of "Wooooooo!"

I wonder that, even tho there is an acheivable, if you are meant to have a romantic relationship in ME2. Your romantic option from the first game isn't available in the second. Part of me thinks that this was intentional as a buildup towards a reunion in number 3 and that if you did pursue romance in 2 then you couldnt reunite with your ME1 choice.

I think the sex thing is useful for a story heavy game, to further develop relationships. Like Heavy Rain. But I don't think you need to see the awkward animations for that. There's plenty of modders doing that. Hopefully Heavy Rain does it right.

If they want sex scenes in games either go for implied or visible, none of this Dragon age sex in underwear crap.

I like what he's saying; that sex should not be there for the sake of itself, but only if it fits. In Mass Effect, a game with a lot of character relationships, it certainly makes sense.

Frankly I don't see what the fuss is about Mass Effect 2's "sex scenes", as none of the ones I've seen were implying that Shepard and [insert other character here] were going about copulating whilst fully clothed - what we were watching was just the run-up before the fade to black kicks in. So there wasn't nudity? So what!

What was ridiculous was Dragon Age, where we had relatively long and drawn out scenes that were both incredibly awkward and flat out ridiculous, considering the participants were all wearing clothes the entire time. There's really no call to show us characters awkwardly pretending to have sex while wearing underwear that, in the case of Morrigan at least, they clearly didn't have on underneath their outfit to begin with (begging the question of why you'd take off your clothing and then put on different clothing prior to physical activities typically performed sans clothing entirely).

It makes Mass Effect 2 look so much better in comparison, but that's the only good thing I can say about that aspect of Dragon Age.
