Personally, I haven't had any real issues with the game. Even at the launch, I didn't have any performance issues, save for some cutscene freezes.

For the whole argument on the design looking generic, I think that can be held true to some degree, but I think it's an amazing upscaling using UE5. UE5 isn't perfect, but all the areas seems to have more details and fidelity.

I am not sure how expansion of the map would've helped; There would've had to been a good reason for the expansion, as in it serves some sort of purpose. Like, is the area filled with dangerous traps but let's to sneak past all the guards? Does it have some sort of platforming challenges that can be used as a shortcut, but still hard to navigate?

Also, given Snake's mission (also time-sensitive in-world wise), it doesn't make real sense for him to wander around; Yeah, he probabaly goes through the train, and sometimes feed on a tree frog, on this ordeal, the trial to survive, but he would've done them all for the purpose of his mission, and not spend tons of time.

Let's also not forget he moves pretty slow even at the max speed, which makes sense given this is a stealth mission. Unless a dedicated sprint option was added, exploring the said expanded area would've been an absolute chore. I mean I am already kinda annoyed anytime I am traveling back to former areas to collect stuff I missed.

As for the controls, I got to play MGS3 on HD Collection for Xbox 360. I remember not really liking it. I didn't realized back then, but because there was no soft vs hard press, interrogation was kinda impossible. Here, I think it has something to do with how close you are from the enemy? I am loving the new modern control here. I used the MGS V-like option. MGS V may have not been my favorite game in the series, but I loved the controls. Although it can still be awkward switching between first and thrid person view. But I seem to get used it quickly.

The only major gripe I have with this game is that this was advertised as “remake”

I'd argue, if you have so many problems with the remaster, then go play the Master's Collection version. I heard it's in much better place now.

I didn't mention it when I talked about the controls a few days ago, but the cover system of the "legacy" controls doesn't work like it's supposed to either. Yes, he presses his back to the wall like he used to, and it's not magnetic or gravitational like with the MGS5 system of the "modern" controls, but you have to tilt the stick away from the wall to separate. Also, because they have made R2 the shoot button, you can no longer lean right and left out of cover with L2 and R2. Instead, you have to hold R1/RB while tilting the stick left or right. The old system was simpler.

I don't know why so many times that I suggest wider, longer, altered areas, readers think that I mean an open world or anything of the sort. I would never want the game to have empty spaces that call for a fucking sprint button. Of course the game should be linear. But opening up and further layering the areas and adding the necessary numbers of soldiers, dogs and dangerous wildlife would have allowed for more interesting encounters that would have offset the power of your new abilities. Areas made for a fully controllable 3D camera, rather than these squarish sets that clearly are made for an overhead camera. The End wouldn't have just been in the same few corners of the forest in the fight. The game is short, too short for the amount of time that passes, even acknowledging that it's a video game.

I already own the PS3 version that it's ported from. It made more sense to figure out how to play with a pressure-sensitive controller in the emulator. Which I did.

Goes without saying that the lean also works like that when you're just standing out in the open. And it's not a sensitive action like it was before with L2/R2, even though it's a freaking analog stick. You can't lean slightly, you can lean only all the way.

You also can't look up and down anymore when you're in tall grass, an air shaft or under the floorboard and the camera is in first person infiltration mode, unless you take out a gun and point it with L2 (or press R2 down only slightly, makes makes L2 somewhat redundant).

Again, speaking about the "legacy" controls.

Everyone who reviewed this should have their right to review withdrawn. Really shallow reviews.

Look at this asshole. He crouch-walks even on the rope bridge, where no one is watching. Give players a crouch-walk in a game with sneaking and they will crouch-walk all the fucking time. Hate how this mechanic is usually implemented so much, and no, I'm not gonna stop talking about it.

Crouch walking was in Thief and Splinter Cell. Check and mate.

No, you don't get it. People. Are playing the game. Wrong.
I have my obstinate moments.

I still want a Fixed Camera, Pre-rendered background, tank control Resident Evil game. And the Indie scene has not provided much to my dismay.

Seriously. Have you actually looked?

He never gets anything right, yet at the same time acts like he got all of the answers.

I wasn't gonna say anything before, but getting it "right?" What are you implying? So Splinter Cell and Thief are the prophets of stealth that all others in the genre must imitate? (Never mind that MGS is hugely action-adventure too and comparing it to pure stealth games has always been ignorant.) If the character is already in a sneaking stance, as Snake was in the original game, why do you need to so often use the crouch? If it's only to navigate lower spaces, take cover and move behind objects, that's fine. But don't make me so much harder to see and or any harder to hear when crouched in every modern game, because it doesn't add any realism and means that I'll stay down far too much, which slows the game and just doesn't look cool. Just admit you like homogenization.

Hmm any new Stealth games that takes after the legacy of Thief and Splinter Cell?

I know of two.The one with the sneaky Goblin character but the name of the series eludes me.

And one with a cute little mouse character, but I don't know how full on stealthy is that game.

Anything else?

And as for the games you showed me, just so you know Echoes of the Living just got revealed this year and I just found out.

The pre-rendered cutscenes are covered in very fine grain, but the encoder couldn't keep up, probably because they used a low setting, making it look very digital. Pretty obvious when the cutscene fades in, but it's throughout.

No spoilers, but the images are big.
