Well, I've got to say, job extremely well done. [small]And maybe it makes me a sexist to say so, but... she looks kinda hot in that Zero Suit.[/small] Maybe I should look into this sort of thing in order to improve my own health.

I'd have to be careful as to which character I choose to emulate, though. I don't want to end up taking up smoking and hiding in cardboard boxes.

Okay, this is nitpicky, but why does the article title identify Perl as a "girl" when she's 25? Shouldn't it say "Metroid Motivates Woman to Cosplay After Mother's Death?"
True.
I want to start by saluting you for taking that observation to heart and doing something cool about it. It's nice to see.
*salute*

Next I want to say, I love this woman and shall marry her, for she is the "Teh awesomeness". So you know, whenever she can get in contact with me we can talk about that.
This is a GREAT story. With all the stupid junk gaming has hurled at it that we as a gamer society have to endure, it's so nice to see something like this, something that shows people that gaming in fact is a positive part of many people's lives.
So to that I want to thank her for not being a role model and inspiration for other women, but to the gamer community as a whole. I'm a guy and I found it a very nice affirmation.

I also want to personally salute her for having the strength to identify and break out of the stuff that had been holding her down. People underestimate how big of a thing that is. A lot of people go their whole lives without managing that level of self awareness, and being able to be that brave as to seek to do something about their lives, as oppsosed to just making excuses as to why they can't.
So to that, I want to say she's just an inspiration for people, even those creepy non gamer people, who from what I hear, statistic prove that the majority of violent crimes are committed by non gamers, thereby that's scientific proof that gaming prevents violent crimes.
;)

but yeah so, whenever she wants to get hitched lemme know.
:p lol

Hopefully this could get some media attention, eh? :)

It's not unheard of for video games to be influential, mind. Dick-tits recently became a popular slur at college... Most of the people don't even know where it came from :/ It was funny in Bulletstorm and the escapist preview. It lost some charm since then

Now if only Samus Aran could transform and drop 100 lbs of unneeded baggage as effectively as this girl did in her name. It's very cool that she did that as Samus was always a favorite gaming icon for me as well. A friend of mine always was a huge fan of Ms Aran as she was orphaned at a young age, so she identified with Samus for similar reasons. I think people at Nintendo grossly unestimated the connection she has to her fans.

I really hope they can get rid of Other M as it's the Brand New Day of video games. (spiderman comics.) Seriously I don't think a video game character ever been destroyed so throughly in a single game as that Other M. Hopefully it's a tragredy never repeated.

Well, as far as females in the media go, Samus is about as positive of a role model as you get, I suppose. She's strong and independent yet still kind and (in a sense, considering the baby metroid thing in the earlier games) motherly.

So, who votes we burn Other M in her name, and request that Nintendo officially recognizes that Other M isn't part of the canon Metroid story? :D

I must admit I was expecting this to be some random story about cosplayers, I did not expect this story to be so touching. It has been said a lot already, but it really is well written. Thank you for sharing this.

Could everyone just shut the hell up about fox and the news in this thread? Make a thread for that if you've got something to say. Personally I don't really see why any news organization would put this story up.

Samus is one of my favorite video game characters so I think it's pretty cool that someone was able to use her as a motivation to make improvements to their own life.
But I'm sure you could see why they'd run a story about how many rapes are caused by Bulletstorm, eh?

Seriously, without good news, we're just left with crap about how the world is a shitty place to be. I already know the latter, so nice to have some good news every once in a while.

Damned, ninja'd!

I will have to go with this response as well. It'll destroy her. :/

Oh my god, that's the very first thing that popped into my head when I read this article.

Somebody E-Mail her with a warning, because she's probably saving up for a Wii even as we speak.
It says on her DA page "Favourite game: Every single Metroid game EXCEPT Other M " so no fuss to be had.

OT: That's pretty cool.
Oh, good. One step ahead of the warnings!

From what I've heard, not played Other M myself, but it's very degrading to Samus. Ruined the awesome bounty hunter image with a daddys girl?
Wrong.
Many of the things people try to claim as "Degrading" or "Sexist" are massively overblown are just due to bad writing.
I was literately laughing while playing the game because some of the things people said, like not being able to go into the mens bathroom or Samus having nicknames from Adam ans Anthony, were ridiculous.
Its a good game in its own right, not the best Metroid, but it ended on a good note.

OT:The is wonderful to here.
Samus is one of my favorite characters of all time and a good roll model for anyone imo.

Yeah, "ficional character", that happens to religious people all the time ! :)

Are mods starting to go after the "I'm kewl cause I don't believe in jebus" people?

See? Strong female character can be inspirational, hell Samus might have helped inspire my character a little bit. But NOT that disgusting clone in Other M, that's what she is in that game, a clone. I have proof....uhh...

She takes orders, there, she's like a crappy replicant. (Yes I played the game and beat it, I've played almost all the metroid games through and this one was INSULTING)

Ah, it's so nice to find a story with a happy ending. Well, she still lost her mum but...you know what I mean. Good for her- she must have quite a lot of willpower.

If only this sort of story got as much publicity as all the "Video games make children into murderers!" things...

Regardless, it's nice to hear good news for a change.
