Well this isn't going to bite them in the ass..how much is an nVidia Titan again?
Still a bit over $1000 dollars and it doesn't require a 24 hour online checkup.

"Microsoft added "because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection, developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when you?re not playing."" --This confirms that MS is targeting the well off for their new console. Those of you who don't have broadband internet, sorry, you're out of luck and can't get one. Unless, of course, you just want to watch TV or play Blue-ray or DVDs...you know, if you don't already have a normal cable box or a DVD or Blue-ray player *cough cough* ps3 *cough*

On a good note, the Xbone Kinect won't send your data out unless you let it (so they say) but it will be watching you....always....so no fapping!

And on the used game market: ?We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.?

BUT!!!

" Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends." --- Which means while Microsoft may not **** you if you want to buy a used game, a publisher (EA, UBISOFT, I'm looking at you guys) can flat out refuse to let you play it period or charge you a fee on top of whatever a store charged you. That is, unless you are a family member or friend for 30 days or a sperm donator or someone's pimp (or whatever their convoluted system is), then it's OK to share your game...or console....or friends console....or whatever....I think.

Thank you Microsoft for clarifying things. I feel a little better about it. I'm still not gonna buy one. And I'm going to recommend to anyone I know not to bother with it either. Why? Far too little and far too late.

I've never had any of the xboxes, mainly because I really don't like the controllers, but I was sort of hoping this one would be the turning point. The way things are going, I'm not likely to ever buy a console again :/

Maybe there'll be enough like-minded people, so that we'll start seeing a growth in the PC market again. That would be nice.

Until Windows 9 or whatever, screws us all over with their Orwellian tactics.
Microsoft is kinda over, Windows 8 is a chimera of bureaucratic desperation making a grab at as many new tech markets as possible, and it failed specifically because of that. Just like Microsoft failed to release Vista before OS X Tiger even though they had a four year lead, just like they failed to release an E-reader before Sony in 2004 even though they had a six year lead and just like Windows CE in 1996 should have led to the development of a Windows based cell phone a lot sooner than the Apple developed Iphone in 2010.

Microsoft has passed up so many good ideas that all they have left is Orwellian tactics! Which is why I think I'm going skip Windows 8&9 in favor of Linux, GabeN has the right idea.

You know what, personally, I can live with this.

I know plenty of people won't be, and they definitely have good reasons for that, but my guess is that most of the problems that people will have with it won't affect me personally.

I know it might sound rather arrogant to say that, but I don't mean it to be, honestly.

Now all I personally need to know is what kind of games are coming out for it.
Kind of this.

Now that I am aware of what works and what doesn't. I can kinda go along with this. But I am not convinced on buying an Xbox One yet.

I need good games before I pick it up.

So, in short, the XBox One will require a broadband connection largely so that its owners the people who have paid a licensing fee for the hardware can participate in an enormous game of "Mother, May I" in which most of the participants are corporations with both ability and incentive to say "no" at will.

Glad we cleared that up; some people were under the misapprehension that they would be buying a game console.

this is the final death knell in this consoles coffin.

There is a BIG difference if you WANT to be online or you MUST.

It is not arrogant, it is just the kind of attitude MS is counting on. People that don't care if their right as consumers go backwards because they are not too much inconvenienced.

Or people that will subject to inconvenience if the games are good.

That's fair, I guess, but somewhat sad at the same time.
I concur, which is why, despite my preference for the Xbox controller and long history with the 360, it's increasingly likely that I'm not going to go anywhere near the Xbone. Sure, I don't lend games to friends more than once. Sure, I buy most of my games new. Sure, I'm usually online. Sure, I don't present any info to the kinect that I'm concerned about. But it's possible that I might get cut off from the internet for some reason, that once cloud support is discontinued, games might cease to work, that Microsoft might introduce some new and exciting bullshit. And to reward them as a company for doing this just encourages it from them and others in the future, and it's ridiculous.

All I see are negatives that probably won't affect me, but I don't see ANY positives. At all. Add to that Sony's superior track record with exclusives, and the fact that the Kinect is going to make the Xbone more Xpensive than the PS4, and unless E3 changes my mind, farewell Microsoft.
I couldn't agree more.

People, as consumers, need to understand that something that you can do is a feature, but something that you must do is a limitation. We are simply seeing the most limited console ever. A number of things can go wrong and buying an Xbone is putting a tremendous amount of faith and power in the hands of Microsoft.

Microsoft is putting the weight of their problems (used games, piracy, need to control, advertising revenue and so on) on the shoulders of the consumers. Every time I see someone going with it I die a little.

What really frightens me is that Microsoft dares to shaft its costumers to this extent, in a situation where they have 2 competitors. I feel sorry for xbox fans.

But imagine if they had a monopoly? God, the Terms of agreement would probably include lifetime slavery in Microsoft's service.

I think South Park had that in mind already with this

These days nothing coming from Microsoft has made any real sense, pretty much every product that's come from them since Ballmer has taken over has fallen flat on it's face.

Maybe there is a secret pact between EA and M$ that M$ will make it's best effort to win the golden poo so that EA doesn't get the hat trick?

The part that saddens me the most is I know many people who ignore these features in real life and are still spazzing out in excitment to spent $600+ to preorder the Xbone. Get enough of these people and Microsoft will not see a dent in their profits and continue on their merry way cutting things down more and more as the console generations continue.

I hope people are actively informing their friends about these turn of events. As much as I loved the Xbox and Xbox 360 (I will always defend these consoles), I cannot see myself even putting down a few dollars for the Xbone. Glad I finally got my first gaming desktop a month ago and am currently learning how to upgrade it. My gaming money will go there instead. I just wish I could get access to the rest of the Halo franchise that I really like.

Microsoft Addresses Xbox One Concerns

Major Nelson confirms that your Xbox One console will have to connect to the internet once every 24 hours.

Now for some bad news [http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/connected]:

"With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies."

The rumors are true: you must connect once a day in order to play your games. That you bought. What about gamers without that capability? They don't exist. "Every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection," Major Nelson writes, and because of this, "developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when you're not playing." Being always online and ready to go will probably have some benefits, but it's hard to say if that outweighs alienating anyone who doesn't want to--or can't--connect to the internet once a day, every day.
what a load of tosh... half the people i know work off shore and take consoles with them for downtime they don't get a net connection when they want, hell even in my job i can be on site for days/weeks at a time without a net connection the one joy i do get is taking my ps3/xbox with me to game on the downtime this kind of beats that round the head!

I actually don't know how they've failed so badly. This, along with Windows 8 just tells me Microsoft have completely lost it. Why is there RULES for a game console?!?!
I expect they won't be selling used games in shops anymore, so no more cheap games.
Why can't you just play the damn game you bought, lend it to your friend and let them play it? How do they manage to cock up so badly!?

I can see this becoming a huge fail but I'm sure they'll at one point stop making games for the 360 which makes it worse.

lol, and xbone threads were starting to die down too.

Good thing I have no interest in this POS. Having four xbox360's red ring and die was enough for me, stopped with the xbox over a year ago.

Thank god I do the majority of my gaming on the PC. All hail the glorious PC master race.

You know, I'd sorta glad this is happening.

I've personally have been against the Xbox ever since they came out with their cheaply build easily RROD 360, and I've been wanting to see them booted out of the console wars. Let it just be PS3 and Nintendo competing, we don't need a 3rd competitor in all this making me fork over more money for exclusive titles. But now that I'm seeing this happen, I'm going to be looking forward to watching "The One" crash and burn in a spectacular fashion come this next generation.

I'm not denying it, I'm a Xbox hater and a PS fanboi.

Here's to the victory of watching Halo games coming out on the PS5 in later generations.

Also PC > All.

Cheers!

"Every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection," you mean to say "Every Xbox One owner WILL HAVE TO HAVE a broadband connection,". What ever happened to the good old days when you brought something, it was yours, forever, to use when you want, how you want. GAMES /= SERVICE o_O"
Steam happened. They started the trend of stopping used games and turning them into a service instead.
Pretty sure retail started abandoning used PC games well before Steam caught on. I mean it could have stopped used games but the key point is that's not Steam's purpose. With consoles becoming more lucrative PC gaming was being abandoned in retail, Steam came along and filled that void.

I have the same sentiments. None of these affect me, as I have a somewhat reliable internet connection and don't ever trade in games, so I can't personally complain. I am already dabbling in PC gaming and Steam, so its not like I am not used not trading in games or being online at all times. If these do adversely you, then all power to you for not buying it. But I am still holding off on buying it just to make sure that I don't fall into a similar situation as I did with the RRoD.

Always online is not about internet connection anyway. its about control. connection is not a problem to me. heck my pc is on at home runing something on the internet even now. but i wont buy it out of principle of not giving them control over my entertainment.

"Every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection,"
Sure, because everyone without one simply wont buy it. DUH.

First, some good news: "Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One." Assuming there are no catches, that's pretty generous. It would be great to share games with family members without having to physically visit them.
i can already see groups of "lets make eachother friends and buy every 10th game each".....

Finally, you can breathe easy knowing that the new Kinect will not be spying on you, as long as you don't want it to. Privacy options control what your Kinect sees and hears, and if you don't want it on, just say "Xbox off."
i dont understand. you can turn off the whole console. you can unplug it anyway. but can you keep kinect off while gaming? that was the question to begin with. and they didnt answer it at all.

Eve online is a PC game. Dust514 woudl fit better as its same studios console MMORPG game. it shares the world with EVE and is persistent. Its not on Xbox though. you know why? MS said no to free updates. so CCP said no to MS.

And so the actual price of the Xbox will not be what they will announce You'll have to add the extra 50-60$ to have xbox live. Cause otherwise the system will not play any games.

If Live becomes free then that's another thing.
no, you ont get it, the machine will act like a ATM, except you will have to put money in regularry to work. and it sends the money to MS via teh internetz.

timboo_drow said:
"Every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection," What, can this fucker see into the future now? There are no Xbox One owners the thing isn't for sale yet. I guess he's merely stating what is logically true that every person boneheaded enough to buy this anti-consumer piece of crap will HAVE to have broadband connection, it's still a strange thing to say.
hes not technically wrong though. the only people that have Xbone now is MS, and they do have broadband connection. also noone without one will buy it anyway, so he will be correct in the future as well.

Honestly, why are people saying that they can live with this? You shouldn't have to to "live with" or "deal with" something you don't approve of in a LUXURY item. If the free-market system truly works what you should do is NOT give money to the company that demands YOU serve THEM and instead give your money to the company that understands that they have no business asking for your money unless they are going to provide you with the product you want. Whether that be Sony, Nintendo, Steam, GoG.com doesn't matter.
Your not entirely correct. for example if you go on vacation, and you have to use a bus ride to get there. the bus is smelly, hot and the ride is bumpy. but you "live with it" because you will get the vacation. the same logic is applied there. the people want the benefit of xbone and thus are willing to get though the ride to get to that benefit. whiel the sentiment to "not buy if you dont like" is good in theory, in practice it rarely works. especially when the companies are still going to blame it on everything but whats at fault as they shown capable of doing very easily.
