Oh wow...I just posted on the "Can we STOP spelling Microsoft with a "$" PLEASE!!" page saying I've never seen anyone do the aforementioned spelling of Microsoft but...wow. I'm actually kinda disappointed.

OT: Luckily i have a 360 and i dont really have to care too much but It's definitely more fun to play through moth ME's than just ME2.

I'll never get around to playing the first one, so not being able to use a Mass Effect 1 save isn't really a con for me.

Yes I would recommend xbox (or pc) purely for completion. There's no point mentioning MGS or Final Fantasy because I don't mean the full story I mean for the importing. FF 13 worked as a standalone, same with GTA4, the story of MGS isn't great anyway plus it can be caught up on quickly. ME on either PC or xbox just seems better because it allows you to carry over important things that'll help the continuity, like a paragon character, chances are you let Wrex live (that's not a big deal anyway, he's only an NPC in 2) as an example. I mean a good guy who murdered someone in cold blood just kind of hurts continuity.
Sentence does not compute. Please elaborate.

I seem to remember reading something about how Dragon Age 2 will be able to reference data from your save game file from Dragon Age 1, regardless of what system you played the first game on. It would be nice if Bioware could include this feature in Mass Effect 2. That way PS3 owners could play the first game on the PC if they wish, and import the save file to the PS3. (Then again, maybe I hallucinated that and I'm just pulling this out of my rectum.)

I wonder what M$'s reaction would be if Sony said the same about the Metal Gear Solid franchise and the PS3 being the only console to play MGS Rising on, seeing as they have the back catalogue if games.

Or the Final Fantasy franchise for that matter, seeing as it was only ever Sony and Nintendo with the rights to it in the past
They're new games going to different consoles, not a game exclusive to one console.

Why would porting a game like Mass Effect be worse on a console with more blu-ray disc space? Surely they can cram better graphics, more extras etc onto a blu-ray!

I will still get this despite not playing ME1, if it mattered THAT much about carrying a save over then they would have made a ME1 for the PS3!
Better graphics are almost entirely dependent on processing power, not storage, however. The only way that the Ps3 version is certain to perform above the 360 is in its range of content. More storage really only promises more experience. Developers could use the extra space to fill with larger resources (textures, meshes, sounds etc) but at some point, perhaps right away for a game as finely tuned as Mass Effect 2, the hardware itself will be overburdened with it all. Anyway, the benefits of carrying the save game are actually very good. It enables some great interactivity that isn't usualy possible. The first game isn't being made for Ps3, because Microsoft own it.

It hardly matters to me. I SO want to play Mass Effect, but I came late to the party. You can't find a copy of Mass Effect on any store shelves, they haven't(And I don't expect them to ever) release a dual pack with ME1 and 2, so this has absolutely no incentive for me. They are right, it is a bit silly to port the game to the PS3 while ME1 remains xbox only.
if you really want to you can purchase the game off of xbla or get it off ebay or something. though if you buy it through xbox live you pay like thirty bucks.

I didn't even need to read the article to see that microsoft is talking out of its ass (I did read it, by the way).

"With both Mass Effect titles launching first on Xbox 360 combined with the wealth of available paid downloadable content on Xbox Live today, Xbox 360 remains the best place to experience the Mass Effect franchise. And the original Mass Effect is absolutely an Xbox 360 exclusive, making Xbox 360 the only place to get the full Mass Effect

Wait, you can read the books on the 360 too? That's hardcore man. Very hardcore.

Oh and nice one Microsoft for FORGETTING THE PC.
When MS is being interviewed in the context of the CONSOLE RACE, it rarely mentions the PC. Why? Because neither the 360 or the Ps3 are PCs. Yes, they are different markets. You can assume that most console games OWN PCs too, but you can't assume that most consoles gamers own GAMING PCs. DIfferent markets. To Microsoft, the word "exclusive" relates to the CONSOLE MARKET context only. The PC is not forgotten; it's just not relevant to the context. THis is an age old argument. Why hasn't it been resolved?

I've both Mass Effects on Steam. Even then, I want it on PS3, which is stupid. But its Mass Effect 2; I sunk 120 hours into that damn game.

Wow, Microsoft really shot itself in the foot with this one.

1. claiming ME is only to be played on the 360 as it's the only system you can play the first and that makes their system better, making them sound like whiny, arrogant children.

2. Seems to have forgotten you can get the full experience on the PC as well, undermining their claim to not have abandonned said platform.

Mass Effect 2 is gonna be on one disk. Awesome.

However, you can't bring your character from ME1 to ME2...That sucks.

No... just no. Stop saying stupid shit microsoft. I will stick to PC since that is the best place to experience it.
But this does make you come across as being very very petty.
Lets just hope that Bioware can get their shit together again and fix the series after screwing up ME2 so badly.
Both ME1 and 2 play better on the 360.

And how did they screw up ME2?

If so, I'll be fucking pissed. I wanted that for the Xbox 360 version, so that I don't have to play Mass Effect 1 again and again to get high-level characters and do all the side-missions.

I didn't say that I wanted it for the PC version mainly because you can actually go to a website and download a customized Mass Effect save with all the decisions already done for you.

It's also not ideal if every 360 player does not quickly, at this moment preorder their copies of Reach along with their shiny new Kinect! Business 101 for Microsoft. ;)

I'm glad I did not go for Mass Effect 2 yet, I would rather see what the PS3 version offers now. I've never finished ME1 and have no intention of doing so in the near future just for lack of free time.

Without the carry-over, ME2 feels...incomplete. It's still more than playable. But there's a lot of little things...And it just didn't feel right when I started over without an import character.
Who's to say you won't be able to craft a character? The PS3 version is going to have what Bioware calls "a special introductory experience." Perhaps you'll make your choices there?

http://www.vg247.com/2010/08/18/gamescom-interview-ray-bioware-confirms-intro-content-for-me2-ps3-included-dlc-more/

I'm not surprised by this. Microsoft just lost an important console specific IP. All they have now is what? Gears, Halo and Fable? Super slim pickings for the RPG crowd.
As I was reading the article, I was actually thinking to myself "Well, I wonder if the PS3 version will have some sort of "quickie" intro system considering they'll probably have the space to offer a way for new players to familiarize themselves.

That is also a good point regarding exclusive titles. I have not been purchasing any games for my 360 lately, and have had no interest in doing so either. Everything is a "wait until used or price drop" at best because there sadly isn't much to look forward to now that you mention what exclusives are available.

Mass effect not ideal on ps3, but on ps3 it goes with all the additional content; which i dislike calling DLC; that the xbox360 only released, in pieces, little by little, therefore making you pay more for the product.

Hey, Tom Goldman, don't PS3 owners miss out on ALL the Mass Effect 2 content now because the game is not on PS3 yet, instead of just missing out on the carryover bonuses from ME1? How much did MS pay you to NOT raise that issue?
Saying that he's in the pocket of MS is ridiculous. It has no basis in reality. He even said in the article that he couldn't even play it on Xbox and bought it for PC.
