Microsoft: Mass Effect Not Ideal On PlayStation 3

Bullshit, Microsoft is lying through their teeth. They just want to keep that game Xbox exclusive because they know ME2 doesn't feel right without an imported character, they're hoping that ME2 on PS3 will add extra incentive to buy an Xbox because they have ME. Good buisiness strategy, but an underhanded one.

"Microsoft doesn't think gamers should play Mass Effect 2 anywhere else but on the Xbox 360."

If Microsoft had their way they'd have us all locked in our houses forcing us to play Halo forever, sending the tripods from War of the Worlds to anyone who ever muttered the words, 'anyone fancy going on LittleBigPlanet?'

Let gamers play on whatever they want to on whatever console they choose. Microsoft are just worried about money. It's not exactly like they're a few million quid short is it?

And the original Mass Effect is absolutely an Xbox 360 exclusive, making Xbox 360 the only place to get the full Mass Effect experience.
So in Microsofts reality, the PC is not a gaming platform.
If they're our <link=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101550-Microsoft-Pledges-to-Save-PC-Gaming-Again>last shot of survival, we're truly screwed.

Oh, Microsoft. Never get a clue, you're so entertaining the way you are.

Why would porting a game like Mass Effect be worse on a console with more blu-ray disc space? Surely they can cram better graphics, more extras etc onto a blu-ray!
Plus not so many FECKIN' DISKS!
*ahem*
Sorry about that...
'Course they're going to say that this is Micro(Dare I put $)oft!
People don't put $ony for a reason or Nint?ndo!
I don't say "Nint?ndo" because I lack a "?" key.

I'm a 360 gamer and I'm happy that more people get to experience the awesomeness of Mass Effect 2.

Bioware deserve the success and PS3 players deserve to play one of the greatest games ever made.

Also, the less exclusives there are, the less reason for me to buy any more shitty defective Microsoft products next gen.

Okay, now I just hope that Microsoft stops crying about it and learns their lesson: If you want exclusives you need to keep them... Sony and Nintendo do this thing, it's really cool, they have people in house and other companies they own that make games FOR them and they absolutely positively cannot go anywhere. Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon are never going to be on anything but Nintendo consoles, and Uncharted, Twisted Metal, and God of War are never going to be on anything but Sony consoles. So, Microsoft: less whining and more learning, get yourself some devs and get more exclusives. You have a few, but not nearly as many, and you can't keep counting on stuff made by 3rd party devs like Bioware to be there for you forever.

That's not to say that I think Microsoft is in trouble, oh no. I think anyone who thinks that one former exclusive going mutliplat means the death of the 360 is really, really, really, REALLY stupid. As I said above they do have some IPs that will not be going anywhere, and a lot of them sell like crazy. Anyone ever hear of Halo? I don't like it myself but HOLY CRAP those games sell.

I just assumed it was because Microsoft fanboys saw Sony and Nintendo fanboys doing it and realized how utterly stupid it was, and thus didn't follow suit. Look who Microsoft competes with: In the personal computer space, we have Apple. And if any one of them between those two needs any kind of currency symbol stuffed into their name, it's Apple, not MS. Also, last I checked, Microsoft isn't the company that launched their current generation console at $600 (even if it was a decent value for all it does, that's still a large chunk of change for a lot of people to throw down).

And in recent times, MS has done a lot to reduce the accessories you need. New 360's have built in wireless N, eliminating the $90 adapter and also outclassing the PS3's wireless internet connection. It comes with a 250GB HDD and it can support up to 5 16GB USB drives plugged in, so no more expensive HDD upgrades and memory units. Xbox Live Gold is still $50 a year (if you buy it from the console which is dumb, you can get it cheaper buying the cards in stores or online), but for all the extra features you get with Gold it's really not a bad deal (certainly a better deal than paying $50 a year for PS+ at this point in time). Not only do you get the online play, you get better online options for controlling who you play with (I would have loved the PS3 to have an "avoid player" feature when I was playing the co-op missions of Red Dead Redemption on it), you can report problem players right from your console instead of going online like you have to with Sony, you get party chat, cross game chat, and that's just the online features. You get all kinds of other things as well, most of which the PS3 doesn't do. Playing online with the PS3 may be free, but Xbox Live Gold has plenty of value. What's left, the battery pack for the controller? That's all I can think of that is a common complaint about buying a 360, and really, it's not that expensive.

Also, Sony has plenty of expensive accessories of their own. Example, I just was looking at prices of chatpads for the 360 and PS3. PS3's chatpad is about $45, and 360's is $20 and comes with a headset as well. Speaking of headsets, the PS3 doesn't come with one so there's another accessory you have to buy. I could think of more but I'm getting too tired to care much right now, but PS3 doesn't have absolutely everything in the box either.

So what I'm getting at is, it's time to wake up and stop making stupid "Micro$oft" comments because it's nowhere near clever or accurate anymore.

Actually I can see where they are coming from. Bayonetta was originally designed for the xbox and was copy pasted onto the ps3 and is much poorer with lots of loading times and worse graphics. Same with GTA IV which looks better on 360 and loads quicker than on the ps3
An interesting thing about those PS3 games, they were all released at the same time as their 360 counterpart. That means, during production, the developer had to split their attention between two different versions of the game.

While a game that was released at least six months later on the PS3, Bioshock, turned out great and came with exclusive bonus content. The month that ME2 for the PS3 comes out, it will be almost exactly a year since the original came out. That tells me they had quite a good amount of time to devote just to programming for the PS3 version. To me, any good developer is going to be able to push out quality work when given that amount of time(just like Irrational and 2K did).

OT: I noticed that the "hours of bonus content" that Bioware promises went unmentioned by MS(No, I will not use a currency sign for the "S"...that just seems stupid). I hadn't bought either ME1 or ME2 yet...I don't really use the 360 here much. However, hearing this comment makes me want to just...obtain the first online and then buy the second for my PS3.

Another thing that's bugging me. Some people seem to assume that the PS3 users are going to have to stick with the default choices. Common, this is Bioware we're talking about. They'll find a way to include the choices of the original.

Side note: I really can't blame MS for not letting go of ME1. It is theirs after all.

I think I'm still a little sore over not getting any updates for TF2 on the 360 because MS wanted to charge for them and Valve found that unfair when PC players get them for free. I can't think of something Sony has done that matches that. I don't use that spelling of Microsoft, but I can understand why some do.

Pretty much this. Of course Microsoft is going to say the 360 is the better experience. If they said the PS3 was the better experience, then I'd be really worried.

And I'm glad to see we can all get along so well. Flamewars like this really help prove that last bastion of intelligence thing we apparently have going.[/sarcasm]

The release sounds just like what any publicist would say if they needed to do damage control on a similar situation

personally I'll keep playing the series on the PC

I just feel a little bad for PS3 owners who want to play the ME franchise. They don't get to play ME1, so they don't get to experience it in all its grandeur, and they can't carry over the series to make the game series their own. I am happy that they get to play some, though, and will at least carry over ME2 into ME3.

I played ME2 once without transfering my save....how horrible it was. However, what peace ignorance brings. Unless you play the first, the way the second is wont be much a bother. So while I wont argue that not playing the first one will ruin the second, rather you just do not know what you are missing.

Edit: Does this make Wrex a 360 fanboy? (Since now he is technically a Microsoft character)

I am glad that now PS3 owners who don't have a 360 or a gaming PC will be able to enjoy one of my favorite games of all time. As far as Microsoft's somewhat defensive but not entirely unwarranted statement, it pretty much has no bearing on me as a Mass Effect series fan. I play it on my computer and it's as "full" an experience as you can currently get, thankyouverymuch.

I hope PS3 users get a great experience as well, and that this port is as good as the Mass Effect 1 PC port by Demiurge.

On a side note, I was confused by some ME1 promotional materials having the Microsoft Game Studios logo on them, since I was not aware that MS had anything to do with ME. Now I know, I guess. But I still don't care.

I hate to say it but carrying over a save file from ME1 really isn't as important as it should have been, what with all the emphasis on "consequence" for player choice. The most that consequence is usually comes in the form of a fake news broadcast.

If it does see a ps3 port i might pick it up, considering how much praise it recieves from the escapist community. But what is so great about ME2? I played ME1 at a friends and hated every single bit.
