This is a huge blow to Microsoft. Mass Effect was one of there few Xbox 360 exclusives that didn't suck. Though Mass Effect 2 has been out for most of the year for the 360, so people who own a PS3 as well as a 360 and already own Mass Effect 2 won't have a real reason to buy it again.

Was it really necessary to say? I didn't hear sony bitching about how FFXII was better enjoyed on the PS3.

Anyway, I think I'll just play both ME and ME2 on Steam.

Why would porting a game like Mass Effect be worse on a console with more blu-ray disc space? Surely they can cram better graphics, more extras etc onto a blu-ray!
Plus not so many FECKIN' DISKS!
*ahem*
Sorry about that...
'Course they're going to say that this is Micro(Dare I put $)oft!
People don't put $ony for a reason or Nint?ndo!
you do know all three are in the business solely for the money right?
Yes I'm not stupid, but with micro$oft it's too goddamed blatent in your face.
So you'd prefer they lied to us and acted like they cared even though they don't? Like when Nintendo released Wii motion plus, an add on that made the console do what it was supposed to do in the first place?
Pretty much, yeah.

Huh? I'm sorry, I was busy preordering Mass Effect 2 for the PS3. What were we talking about?

Honestly, this almost stinks of desperation. Bungie isn't exclusive anymore, Valve isn't exclusive anymore, now they're losing exclusivity for Mass Effect... and this was after pimping the Kinect and claiming it wasn't for core gamers. Now, in the news today, they pull a 180 on the Kinect, claim it's going to be really fun for core gamers, and are outrightly trying to pull spin on how ME2 ONLY works on the 360, damn all other systems, evidently including the PC.

I don't blame them for the damage control attempts. This leaves their core with what, exactly? Gears of War, Fable, and Halo which is now in someone else's hands altogether post-Reach, since Bungie's no longer playing X-Box sidekick. That's more or less it for the exclusives. Five will get you ten the PS3 will see ports of games like Left 4 Dead if the Portal 2 launch goes well for that system, so even back catalogue for the companies they're losing is going to dry up. Since everyone back in 2006 more or less committed to a ten-year race, since we're less than halfway through, losing a lot of their exclusive games and studios does not bode well. Microsoft needs to do more than just spin some PR, though. The old strategy worked; find the companies on the cusp of something amazing, get them under lock and key, and make their products part of the X-Box sales strategy. That they seem to have all but forgotten this is kind of sad.

I will still get this despite not playing ME1, if it mattered THAT much about carrying a save over then they would have made a ME1 for the PS3!
ok you have no idea what you're talking about.

i dont care PS3 uses blu-ray, the game graphics are worse than xbox360's. Seriously, read reviews of games, the PS3 version always get lower due to graphics and graphical glitches and frame rate issues.

I doubt Bioware is going to put anything more "cutting egde" on the port however it only means that people will have one disk insead of 2 but then again playing games off a disk is a no,no.

running games/software off a mass storage device like a HDD or a SSD is worth it.
EDIT: also you have taken into account that there is only so much graphics they can "add" due to the hardware limitations of the PS3. Dont expect a console to produce such amazing graphics.

Of course, you PS3 fans are so much better. /sarcasm

How about PS3 and 360 fans just stop shitting on each other?

Both systems have their flaws. Both corporations are inherently evil because they're, well, corporations. Both systems have some good exclusives -- Xbox has Gears and Halo (which you must admit is one of the most popular and well-selling games of all time), PS3 has Resistance and Infamous 2 (which looks pretty cool, I must admit).
Part of the issue, from a realistic perspective, is it used to be a much longer list for the X-Box. Not merely for game series, but for exclusive studios. Since summer began, that list has grown shorter and shorter... for Microsoft. Not much noise on the flip side, with studios exclusive to Sony's mini-monolith opening the field for the rest. Since that was a winning strategy for Microsoft for so long, this seems to me less like the usual PR spin and more like a desperate holding action while they figure out what the hell to do next. They gambled on Kinect for the casual market, figuring they'd always have the core since they alone had Bungie and Valve games for the home console market, along with exclusive lines like Mass Effect. In three short months, those exclusives that could help sell the console to new core gamers and keep existing ones from jumping ship had started drying up.

This isn't an attempt to shit on them; honestly, I love the stuff Microsoft pioneered with the original X-Box and continues to try and do today. Standardized online play for consoles, player profiles with achievement systems, downloadables, the list goes on. And Kinect stands to shake things up, given how advanced the tech's become. But somewhere along the road in the past season, the best laid plans went quite wrong. For their sake, I hope they pull out something big, or this coming year could get ugly.

{And as a side bar, though I came in late to the dance in owning the original X-Box, I do give the original Halo all the credit in the world for the feel and depth of that world, and can fully understand why that series became such a monster success. Even if I sucked at it harder than a liposuction vaccum running on turbo.}

In this thread: A lot of blatant stupidity... PC elitism... and fanboy rage.

Of course Microsoft are going to say this...

And after playing ME1 and ME2 on Xbox 360 I will continue to play ME3 on xbox 360 as well.

Congratulations PS3 people you have a great title coming your way.

No you won't be able to import characters and you'll lose some of the backstory which may also very slightly affect ME3 as some of the decisions from the first game will be carrying over to the third.

But it doesn't really matter as Mass Effect is still a damn brilliant game.

And so what if Microsoft didn't mention PC? They actually seem to be trying to support PCs now... but most people won't give over because Microsoft want to promote GFWL.

It doesn't matter at all... if you want to play on PC go play on PC... I don't use mine enough to waste £40 on a deep RPG when I can not-waste £40 and play it all the time on 360.

look. i LOVE bioware. and as such, i will NEVER play one of their games on a console. they make some of the best rpgs in the industry and claiming that some console (any console) has the best experience for any of their games is BS. they are the one reason i am going to keep at least a relitively decent pc for games.... well... them and valve. im actually planning on buying a ps3 though.

Well Microsoft, if you really thought Xbox was the place to experience Mass Effect, I guess you should have bought the rights to it. But you didn't so tough shit. Let that be a lesson to not only Microsoft, but to each console developer, don't let your one of your exclusive powerhouse developers go and let EA buy them.

I don't and now probably never will own a xbox 360, but it was ok since I prefer the PC, not to say I wasn't curios of how might "feel" on a console, so even though I already own the ME2, Collectors Edition at that, and ME1, I will pick it up on the ps3, ME1 is a bummer but hey, beggars can't be choosers, hope they let you chose being Paragon or Renegade this time though.

They're just saying it because they want all the money from Mass Effect.

Screw you, Micro$oft!
i agree !

Micro$oft is just barking because that's all what they have left to do with the Bioware games... which is good cause nobody likes games that aren't multiplatform !
