Every character I make in Mount&Blade and in Oblivion has some variant of "Chief" in it.

ChieftanDank
Sir Chiefington
Lord Chiefer
Major Chief

etc.

Im not imaginative. My fallout three characters are scout, soldier, pyro, demoman, HWG, Sniper, Medic and Spy. I'm so unimaginative that i based my characters on TF2

Male characters are generally named either Matt (because I love the name), Ethan (after a friend), or Nekki. Nekki's just for JRPG characters though. My Persona 3 and 4 characters are always Nekki-kun.

Female characters are Renata. No real reason, other than I like the way the name rolls off my tongue.

I keep naming my Pokemon random things, too. There's Rooty the Bellsprout, Anita the Geodude, Shortbus the Magikarp (who evolved into a Gyarados today), Penneta the Ponyta, and BrownHat the Sudowoodo. (Okay, well, the last 2 are named after friends, in a roundabout fashion.)

I've used DontTazeMeBro for a long while. Only because I had got an X-box 360 around the time it had happened.
I swear I've seen that exact name on our CoD2 1.0 server...

Ziadaine I came up with on my own while I was writing novels.
Zero (My Steam DN) Is my Clan name I use
Miles is my Admin name on a CoD2 server which sadly Was given to me, but all the other admins still refer to me as Tim.
and Dark Aura was something I thought up... until it was pointed out its used in KH2.
You write? Shit, lets hear a story then.
I used to, It's been a while but since I've got alot of spare time lately I suppose I could start writing again. I'm mostly trying to learn to draw manga also.

I name them after food. Yes, you heard me, food.

Kalamari - Cally Mari.

Curry - Kouri.

Hamburger - Hammy & Burgenstein

Etc etc etc.

Why do I name them after food? Well, if it turns out the game is hard, and I get plastered into itty bitty bite sized pieces, well, at least their names will be appropriate no? Besides. I have several flavours I can choose from.

See what I did there? Did ya? Aha!.. Ha.. Damn I'm horrible with puns.

It depends, really. I usually name my main player characters Gilfer, or I'll name them after myself, and I'll name other characters after friends and family. (I recently started a new game on Pokemon Pearl and named my rival after TWO of my best friends, who conveniently have the same name)

But sometimes I'll get creative and actually try to think up names. Most recent example I can think of is naming all of my Pokemon after sound effects. Nobody seems to find it quite as amusing I do.
I choose! ... Pfft?
Actually, my main team consists of "Fwoooosh!!", "Hiiiyaaa!!", "Kerzaaap!!", and "Caaaww!!"
Battling always make me chuckle because whenever the Trainer tells a Pokemon to do something, it looks like he's just making random noises.

God only knows what the looks on my opponents faces must be when I fight them.

i usually call my characters something that fits them all depending on the way the characther looks, talks and stuff like that but i always have my go-to name "Bein Megil" which is Elvish and means Beautiful Sword or if i feel funny at the time i often go with Mor Annabon which seem awesome but really means Black Elephant or Kàno Him which means Commander Cool..
Really like Elvish :)

I usually look for a baby naming website and either look for cool sounding names or names with a relevant meaning. If not that, I name them after things.
e.g. Sakuya, Nathan, Alexander, Gustav, Betty, Himesh, James, Captain Fucking Shepard...

Dungeons and Dragons Online:
Danezig Steelbreaker - Dwarven Cleric - I think I named him that because the German city Danzig was the first thing to pop into my head.

Gizenad Steelbreaker - Dwarven Cleric - A re-roll of Danezig (hence why his first name is Danezig spelled backwards)

Shinpai Goroshi - Human Monk - It sounds cool and Japanese to me. That's enough for a mystical martial arts warrior.

That's about it for characters I've named that I can remember.

I try to name my characters with two words, usually involving a name and them a word relating to how they look or their character class, and make both words begin with the same letter. Usually this gives it a nice sound and sometimes humorous outcome.

Examples:

Bullseye Brianna (an archer)
Delilah Dementia (a scary-looking necromancer with deadpan eyes)

I only do it because it makes me giggle, and before I did this I couldn't be arsed making up something so I used to just put "Joe" (my name) or AverageJoe if its online, or if I'm making a female character some random girls name usually the first thing that pops into my head. I find it doesn't effect my immersion at all either way because its only text on the screen.

I tend to use my prefix Glade(As this is what people call me) and add various suffixes as I have gotten bored of thinking up new names.

The only game I've ever really played that required me to name my character was Oblivion, so I used names for Tolkein's stuff, like Moradir or Berren.
