Wow.
I'm just glad there will be customizable giant robots.

BTW: free MW4? Neat, I don't even know where my disc is! :p
One of my geek hats is a Battletech/Mechwarrior one. Sometimes you just need to put the hat on and go into way too much technical detail.

Speaking of way too much detail: given the game engine taking into account building damage/stress due to the jumping mech landing on it, I wonder if Death-From-Above attacks will be feasible. Usually a bad idea, or one born of desperation, but who doesn't want to be able to leap high into the air in a massive, ungainly heap of metal and try to land on a moving target that's just as likely bigger than you, and probably doing its best to knock you out of the sky. Then try to stick the landing on 'dismount'. Giant robot gymnastics: poetry in motion.

Hehehe, sounds like fun... reminds me of my Puma in MW3 with the best engines and jump jets. It was so much fun to pilot/fly. I think it could only carry a PPC (and no other weapon).

I am being drowned by all these terms people are using in this thread.

Still, I love shooting stuff, I love giant robots... I guess I'll have to give the previous titles a whirl.

UPDATE: It just keeps getting better. While we wait for Mechwarrior, Smith & Tinker has decided to mark the 25th anniversary of Battletech by giving away Mechwarrior 4 and its expansions. The free game package will be available for download soon at Battletech.com [http://www.mektek.net/].

Thanks to Ralackk [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Ralackk] for the heads-up.

I was already having a good day, when the Mechwarrior game was confirmed it became a really good day, now it's such a good day I might explode with glee.

Hooray for happy gibs all over the ceiling.
Also, let see some more Escapists on MW4 pronto!

Also, for those of you who aren't aware, there is a 3rd party driver for the Steel Battalion Controller.

There are currently control profiles for MechWarrior4, MechWarrior3, Freespace 2, and a few generic profiles.

If you have any terms in particular that need expanding upon, I'm sure we've got plenty of people who can help. The sarna.net wiki may help as well.

Everyone loves free stuff. That it's Mechwarrior 4 makes it even better. I wonder if they are going to include Mercenaries.

Hee... nothing quite like putting that 30T Urbanmech's foot through the cockpit of an enemy's 85T Battlemaster, even if you *cough* don't stick the dismount. (Silly assault 'mechs, poking their overexposed noses into a city fight...)

I didn't know that FASA was still using all their "rip-off" mech designs...

Ah well, could be fun, I like the universe even if I find the mechs themselves a little bland.
FASA no longer exists, Microsoft bought them.

That my friend is how giant robots should fight, damn you Transformers! Nothing for the PS3 though? Surprising...
Again, Microsoft owns the Mechwarrior rights.

Just as likely to do it by accident as on purpose; Urbanmechs are so slow, you tend to jump everywhere to save time.

The horrors of urban combat; Hunchbacks around every corner...

Stock Puma is 2 ERPPCs and a flamer.
Stock mechs suck. Mine was custom :p
And I think it could run as fast as 220km/h!

Free versions of Mechwarrior 4 and all of its expansions. Hmmm, I may take them up on this. I need a new game to play anyways.

Good thing he got them back then, it was Microsoft that repeatedly stated that there would never be another Mechwarrior game, thanks for the update (I gave up on the franchise once Microsoft ruined it with those Mechassault games.)

I hope they don't screw up and make it too console-y.

I want all my ludicrous three-hand PC controls, in-depth setting editors and the like (it's annoying when console-to-PC ports have stuff like "AA on or off" instead of 2x, 4x, etc.)

Two to three shots? ONE freakin shot from an AC-20 is usually enough to bend a mech over backwards. Tis why I have such affection for the Hunchback, King Crab, and Hunchback IIC. Dakka Dakka DEATH! Doubt it's the AS7-C though, don't recall the C3 units being available until the mid-late 3050's. Don't know if that's an OOPS on the designer's part, or if this was when the C3 system was still in prototype stage.
It looks like the Warhammer takes 3 big hits in the video, so I went with that number.

As for the C3 equipment, it may not have it and the -C designation stands for something else, perhaps a lesser equivalent of the more advanced system developed later; the Atlas is one of the few mechs that later receive the C3 units, so its role as a battlefield commander's platform (and that an average joe wouldn't be piloting it) seems to hold true in either case. I'm just tossing out theories at the moment, until I can get my hands on the game later and toss around facts and firepower.

Yeah, those were some dark days for the franchise.
