Just change his fucking hair, everything else I'm fine with now, just change the goddamn hair so he doesn't look like a lesbian.
I though the point of Japanese game characters was to resemble girls and have pointy hair. If the new Dante looks like a lesbian then they "did" their job.

Just joking(I've just saw the new ep of ENN), hope I didn't offend you.

OT: I have no problem with the new Dante. To be sincere I don't care about DMC that much any more(after the last game I felt too disappointed to care any more about the design decisions)
I still hope the game will be good, although I'm not so keen on buying it.

I bet Link would get laughed at walking into a bar as well,or Mario, Kid Icarus, Ryu, Ken, Wolverine wearing spandex. The excuse from Ninja Theory is BS. DMC is popular because of it's character and the way he looks. Your lead designer gave his lame emo haircut to the character and ruined him for those of us who are fans of the series. Ninja Theory is probably going to go the same way of Heavenly Sword and stop actually putting any effort into the game halfway through and then shell out a product trying to claim it is a good game. Capcom made a mistake in letting someone else get their hands on this franchise. An Edward Cullen lookalike is NOT wanted.

Here's an idea good sir, stop defending it, when 90% of the fans are calling you out on it you should do yourself and your publisher a favor and FIX THE PROBLEM. They did it for Infamous 2 you can do it for your game. FIX IT.

As long as the combat is good, I'll buy the game. Seriously though, get rid of the emo hair.

I want them to stick with the designs so it really ticks off the fans.

After all, I like the game, I play it alot. I don't care, he looks acceptable. Well done for taking a chance ninja theory. Its fans like these that stop developers from trying new things.
If only for every five posts complaining about the new look there were posts like yours, I applaud you good sir, for having enough wits to realize that change does not always mean bad things.
Change doesn't mean anything other than; An alteration of current status.

So... doesn't mean good things either.

The only thing I can't stand is the jacket, which I think looks stupid, but I'm probably too old and boring to understand such underground youth fashion. The game is probably going to be a bag o' shite anyway with Ninja Theory making it.

I wouldn't be so pissed if they redesigned him, but saying he'd be laughed out of a bar was bullshiet. Dante would smirk, say something witty and proceed to kick their monkey fighting arses. Then they had to go and make him all lanky. I am so tired of lanky emo looking heroes. If they have a giant sword they have to be some what built to swing it around, people will say "well he is a demon" but screw that. Growing up Dante was awesome, he was a party animal who killed demons. Now it looks eh. Tired of the whole gritty look too. I am just ranting here but again to the bar topic, he looks like a twat, he would be laughed at more now then with his red leather jacket and leather pants. I hope they didn't change the gameplay, I will probably still check it out. Also he looks like he is like forty something years old trying to be a cool kid.

Saying your decision was inspired by a concept that they pulled the plug on and genuinely aren't certain they'll every touch the property again is NOT comforting.

The update has me more worried than ever before about new Dante because I hated the new Bonds. The fun of the Bond films is the suave Bond kicking ass with neat gadgets; which was totally lacking in the new ones, where angsty Bond kills a few people messily and moans the loss of his murder-ginity. If they turn Dante into a depressing mirror of the new Bond (as they are proposing (and barring any comprehension errors on my part))the game will lose a lot of what made it so fun. DMC's greatest strength has always been its combat, and while I believe ninja theory to be able to be more than capable of making it as good if not better than it has previously been; if Dante's old design was so in need of change, why not just make a whole new series with whole new characters? Then they wouldn't have fanboys (like me) getting our collective knickers in a twist.

And if ninja theory does fuck up the combat as much as they have fucked up Dante...

Here's something funny: on the Ninja Theory forums, someone posted a redesign idea for Dante that looks quite a lot more true to the original character and fits in with the more "modern, gritty" tone this game pursues.
Hm, have a link to that picture? Curious to see what it'd look like.

And pretty much everything I want to say, has been said. The reason behind the design is weak, as it seems more apparent that the guy fashioned this "dante" after how he'd want to look like if he was in a game, then threw in some silver shock in the back of the head.

Its not just the clothing though, but the general build that seems completely different. I'll give the game a chance, but I am hoping to god there is a "Dante" costume in this game, like the other games would have, that changes his look to the old. Though, if they fail the gameplay aspect of DMC, then I wouldn't waste my time.

You back? Do you see what I mean? It's actually pretty good. It's a more modern, realistic take on the character that still retains a level of flambuoyance and snark consistent with his original characterization. And it isn't insulting.

He damn well better have some awesome character development to justify this. He looks like a million other punky teen protagonists, IE Nero.

As for getting beat up outside of Tokyo...

Erherm... WHO CARES?

Its a ~SMALL~ graphical change.

People change. I havent kept my same hair style my entire life, neither have a lot of people. Sometimes, people even DYE their hair and get it cut, just to spice things up.

... SO WHY THE HELL CANT A GAME CHARACTER DO IT?

Listen, fan or not of DMC, this has NO overall change to the series. This has NO recourse on how the game will play, engine upgrades, etc. ITS HAIR.

Seriously. Its hair. Dont judge the game because they like to change things up; judge it because it sucks. And we dont know if the game is bad yet. So. Yeah.

Just... No.

You want to make a character that's cool enough in the modern (?) sense?
Give the guy some jeans and a pair of decent boots (always liked the idea of cowboy boots meself), I don't mind changing his coat to black like the new one, and he would be wearing gear perfectly acceptable in both Tokyo and Western bars.

A complete redesign is not required. Especially the smoking thing... Dante no smoky!! :(

As far as I'm concerned, RIP the greatest ever character. You will be missed.

Yeah, its definitely a better balance of the older, well-known design and the horrible look of this new one. Doesn't look nearly as gaunt (might just be how its drawn), doesn't have that weird little... flip... in his hair. I'm not in total agreement with the Dante crest on the sleeve, as that personally seems a little unnecessary, but otherwise better.
Actually I think that character redesign looks abit too similar to Nero in my opinion.
