Oh, for christs sake. Can you people not differentiate between a fringe group in Australia and the nation of Australia. It's not bloody hard, sorry it shouldn't be hard from the same community that makes such efforts to not generalize anybody else. These fucksticks do not speak for all Australians, not even a majority and fuck it, not even a sizeable minority. They do not speak for Australian christians THEY DO NOT SPEAK FOR ANYBODY BUT THEMSELVES.

And so for those of you dumb enough to think of one of the worlds freest, most liberal nations as a fucking puritanical theocracy, back the hell off and actually think.

Whilst I think that playing a game as part of his 'training regimen' is bullshit i'll just rollwith it this one time.

I bet anothr part of his training regimen involved stuff like joggingOMGBANEXERCISEITSEVUL and perhaps a carefully planned dietOMGBANEATINGITSEVUL.

It's also fun to note that he was a christian and I reckon there's a chance he prayed before going on his rampage so perhapsOMGBNRELIGIONITSEVUL.

Yeah, stupid isn't it?

Being that the guy is a total sociopath I don't think we should be making assumptions about other things based off of his actions.

this is just another example of why society needs a mental healthcare system
anyone that close to having a mental status change should be kept well away from anything even resembling a weapon, including games

thing is, people blame games for this but the reality of the issue is that those games simply attract mentally damaged people, or those with allot of frustration to vent they certainly don't hypnotize you into being activision zombies that run around murdering people
it's just silliness to claim that and everyone knows it

you could easily apply this kind of thinking to cars, baseball bats, computers, knives,
'i'm going to use this for x bad thing'
ie run over a group of nuns and schoolgirls
club someone i hate to death
hack you, spam you, infect you with viruses, steal america's nuclear launch codes or whatever.
stab you up

should cars, bats computers and knives be banned because they can be used for bad things?
er.. no they're tools designed for a purpose and as with many tools of used by a psychopathic damaged, deranged or broken mind they suddenly become very dangerous

The guy was also Christian, quickly Australia ban Christianity.

I still find it funny a place that was originally the place criminals were sent too, ends up being so bothered by blood and other crap. Games banned, pornstars needing a certain breast size. Australia is crazy. Then again if I lived in a place where the animals, insects, plants and everything else wanted me dead, I would be insane too.
We are actually quite socially liberal. It is simply a case of a vocal majority. The Christian Lobby holds virtually no sway in Australia, because a large portion of the country simply aren't religious enough (ie most don't go to church).
Edit: Also, a lot of the people sent to Australia were petty and political criminals.
Edit2: Upon further reading of this thread, I think people don't understand the situation. The current government isn't holding back the ratings change, one of the Attourney Generals holding back a rating. In fact, the Government is in support of the change.

I'm glad there are intelligent people in government. Madmen have been around before video games were around, it's just now that there is something to blame.

Well congratu-f'n-lations Australia, this time you were faster than us. Normally our German government is the one who wants to ban Vidya as a whole after each time a complete ludacris goes nuts.

this is why, despite being Christian, I will NOT be putting that as my religion on the Census.

I suggest others second think it too, all it does is support these morons.

I mean, lets re-look at the killer's claims too! these games didn't INFLUENCE his decision to do what he did, he had already decided that. they were mere tools... and not very related ones either. its no sooner justified to blame them as it is to blame guns, the boat he used, fertilizer, or the internet itself!

Well of course MW2 didn't make him into a psycho.

The guy said himself Modern Warfare was his 'training regime'. In order for it to be his training for the atrocities he'd have to have actively decided he wanted to kill all these people...

Argument over in my opinion.
What I'm curious about is how is playing MW any relation to real life?

Also, thank you politicians. Even if you are all too distracted by that bloody carbon tax, it still means you're making at least one good choice this year.
There is no relation between the two.

Playing Modern Warfare 2 is just like pressing buttons in any other game.

After a long 'training' session in MW2 I'm almost certain I'd probably be more familiar with how to work dishwasher than a functional gun.

What utter bullshit. I agree with one of the comments prior to this - he also was a devout Christian, so should we ban religion too?

The fuckanaut calling for the ban isn't a part of any Australian government.

relegion has and will always cause more bloodshed then any form of media ever would. its nice that some politicians are talking sense, I also saw it coming as any tragedy like this always seems to have people blame games first.

I don't understand.
It's the same sneaky little tactic that fundamentalist Muslims try to use when divorcing themselves from extremists, they try to find another source to blame besides the hateful dogma and rhetoric they spout.
umm... it wasn't muslims... it was a socialist-camp/convetntion of sorts, most of the participants kids and teens...

Yeah, I know. I meant to say that over here it's our government reacting like some fundamentalist, lobotomized, hillbilly-"get-off-me-lawn"-idiots.

It's REALLY tragic what happened in Norway and I'm really sorry for everyone who lost friends and family there but this is just another one of those disgusting hanger-on campaigns. And yup, I mean disgusting.

I couldn't initially decide if your post was being ignorant or humourous. I'm going with humourous, since you made me laugh my arse off. Yes us Aussies are crazy, but no more than any other place in the world, and a lot less than some. Our censorship boards may suck but we have a good health-care system, low unemployment and a better quality of living than anywhere in the world except for maybe Norway...hang on...

Hmm oh well, at least we agree on one thing: Ban Christianity and any other religion from public life. Haven't these antiquated concepts of a man in the sky threatening to spank us killed enough people already?

Just for the record I don't support BANNING people from worshipping in any way they wish, I just think they shouldn't be able to meet in groups bigger than say 4 or 5. You may scoff but it's been enacted in law here to stop outlaw motorcycle gangs, why not for religion as well?

Aspiring towards peace and morality should be a conscious choice, not something we run towards like lemmings because books written thousands of years ago tell us they are right.
