Ross walks up close to the large door, examining it in detail. After a few grunts, snifs and carreses he stands back, with longing in his eyes.
"Ahhh, if only i had the budget, I could have designed this, you know. Nowhere in the world has that kind of money anymore, sadly." His eyes drift over to one of the pillars. "And no one has the skills nessesary to build this anyway."
Ross wanders back to the group.
"So where do you think we should look first? I'm worried about what the people will say, though, if we go around uprooting stones and breaking down walls we'll anger the population. From how I see it, the best couse of action is simply asking one of the cleaners. There is bound to be one around here, those columns don't clean themselves!"
Ross squints his eyes and looks around.
"Hum... maybe they're inside?"

"I doubt there would be cleaners, Master Terrias. It's a tomb and shrine, not a summer home... I would have thought an architect could tell the difference," Leonart stated dryly whilst looking around to admire the craftsmanship of the entrance. Certainly someone was very full of themselves, or avidly devoted to the God King, to commission the creation of such a grand front door and have it maintained to the standard that it was. Marble was not cheap, nor was it easy to keep clean. These things Leonart knew from personal experience. It would take someone with a lot of money to throw around to keep these as they were, and a lot of power to keep others from deliberately marking it.

"Please, I must request that we begin as soon as possible, I'd like to get back to my desk as soon as I can to chronicle these ventures, and each wasted moment is an agony to me and my readers." He tugged upon his cape to realign it just as he liked it to be, hanging freely over one shoulder.

"To haste! We have much to do, and so little time to waste," He announced, to no-one in particular, as he set upon his way inside, marveling at the entrance as he continued on. He assumed that they followed him, albeit confusedly.

They quickly toured along behind him, he was wheeling between exhibits of the God King's life and commenting upon each piece with an equally blithesome tone, "Oh magnificent, a truly resplendent sight to behold, do you not agree? Be that it may that these were for you, Sir Arnup. A fine spectacle you would look indeed. They are not what you are seeking, mayhaps? Luck would only be so kind as to make it true."

"You know that I wrote about this particular article right here?" He quickly interjected into his own speech upon the viewing of a particularly large jewel-beset locket, "It was made 5 years into the God King's life, you know. Made for him as a gift to be presented upon reaching maturity," he chuckled, swinging harmlessly into an anecdote, "Though rumour has it that the God King's servant of the time tried to steal it. He struck her down, they say, and he was but a 7 year old. An omnipotent 7-year old, mind you." He looked back, nothing but a bored expression upon a few of the people's faces.

"Oh, am I distracting the rest of you?" He asked innocently, "Please, if you wish to continue a tour on your own to find a suitable entrance to the catacombs then by all means shut me up. It is just that this place has so much history that I just couldn't bear to let you go ignorant into it's serene majesty. Just make sure our entrance does not bring harm to the structure. It would be a pity to mar the polished surfaces that make up our surroundings. We must exit the same way, and I would prefer it were not guarded by soldiers upon our return."

See, that more than makes up for the fact that I may not be here later. As well as being a bit of a hunting nut, I figured it would work to make him a bit of a brainiac about... everything.

And yes, he will talk like that all RP long. There's got to be something to annoy you all.

Derrick almost chuckled at how Leanart went about explaining everything within the tomb, and expecting it to be such a short journey that he would be able to write it down so simply.

However, Derrick did agree that they needed to get underway. Nothing was gained by standing still gawking at anything and everything about this huge temple. He snapped back into the conversation, as he heard a question.

"It is not distracting Leanart. There is a time and place for explanations, and I would rather have you speak of them now rather than when we are underground trying not to wake anything...unhappy with our presence." Derrick said, trying to be polite.

Derrick looked about, taking note of all the people wandering about with them. Though he failed to see any temple guards, he was willing to bet they would appear as soon as they attempted to do anything odd, such as opening any old tomb doors.

Upon hearing Leanart's explanation of the 7 yo. immortal killing probably a much older servant, he looked upon William. Dangerous at a young age made him wonder exactly how old William was.

He silently continued to stick with the group, paying attention to anything Leanart had to say. Information had its uses.

King Karnak
Is that Karnak from the Drenai novels, or is it a pure coincidence?

William felt the priests eye son him, but said nothing. Talk of dangerous immortals unsettled him; with no idea of his history, he could been as bad as that child, or maybe he even was that child. The thought made him shiver, and he mentally shook himself. Now was not the time to dwell on his mysterious past

Pure coincidence I just needed a name and it was the first one to come to mind, never even heard of that series

As the group progressed further into the shrine several of the people gave them odd looks and whispered behind their backs. It became clear when they came upon a statue that was almost an exact likeness of William. Standing outside the door to the inner-sanctum was a man that looked like he was a monk, was giving William not a look of confusion but one of disgust.

I ought to point out that since faeries are a race I invented, I have a habit of playing them a certain way. They are proud and honourable, but don't really fit into human concepts of morality very well, and can end up acting almost bestial, both physically and mentally.
If I don anyhting unexpected, it'll be cos of something in my head about faeries that I forgot to mention.

William paused to look at the statue, considering the image and trying to suppress a sense of rising panic. This statue almost guaranteed that he was, had been Karnak, the murderous God King of a tremendous empire. He had no memory of this time, nor anything like the horrific compulsions and habits of the ruler, and he was terrified to think that his very personality was moulded, and maybe lost.

It was in this condition of stress that he spotted the man staring at him with hatred. The faeries straightened up and met the man's gaze, and felt his face shift to an expression of rage fit to match this arrogant monk, and more besides.

He strode over, his tall body tense like a bow string and his usually serene face a snarling mask of anger. "What are you, little man, to stare at me so" he demanded, even as a tiny part of him wondered what he was doing

Derrick did not like the way this was proceeding. Attention was being drawn, and it was not helped by the fact William was becoming openly hostile. Even worse, the statue that was in this shrine looked exactly like William.

A murderer of kingdoms was with him. If he had not distanced himself from the church, it would have demanded that he strike William down, without question.

Derrick snapped back into now, which was getting worse by the second. To his much displeasure, William had taken to openly challenging a monk. He needed to intervene.

"Will, if you please..." He tugged slightly at William's shoulder, hoping he would get the hint.

"I apologize for my colleague's behavior, sir. Being so close to the image of this statue doesn't make his days any easier." Derrick said, trying to apologize.

He hoped that perhaps that would diffuse the situation. He hoped for all their sakes, it was enough. Fighting to get out of the temple was slim, in the best of circumstances.

"Well this statue is a splendorous image of the God King. A fantastic coincidence, if you'd be so kind as to entertain my disbelief, in that he looks not dissimilar to you, Sir Arnup. Perhaps you would be him, yes?" He said this final piece as a joke before he noticed the face that William was making. He felt he may have crossed a line. "Oh. Your past does allow for it, yes, but the God King has a tomb. Surely a tomb denotes his death, Sir. The chance that you are him is so small, we can simplify it to say that it is impossible. Let not these dangerous thoughts consume you." He smiled warmly, wishing to continue his winding way about the spacious hall.

"A note on the statue, perhaps?" He dug through his memory to a reasonably useless tidbit about statues, hoping that it would distract from the several gazes. He didn't mind them, but felt that the others may not be so used to so many eyes upon them. "Did you know that most statues are made of a special composition that is only 90% marble, the other 10% being made of contaminants that are extracted alongside the marble? It is said that this statue is 100% marble however. Whomever had it made must have had it purified as well. I'd say that the columns outside probably received the same treatment, though I can't be sure. An interesting aside, if I may be so bold as to say so myself."

"Now come, let us away. The eyes can watch us, I care not for them, for we have urgent business that we must attend to." He gestured towards a small cave within the structure that he had noticed, wondering what lay within. Perhaps they would find a way into the actual caves from there.

Haseo shook his head and pulled himself off the rock he was sitting on. He pulled William away by the collar, separating him from the guard. When the guard started to turn towards him, Haseo growled, causing the guard to flee in fright. "Will, you really have to learn not to call out every single person who looks at you funny. I'm getting tired of explaining for you." He looked up at the temple. "So this is it, huh? What makes this place different from the half-dozen other places we visited, to no avail?"

Derrick almost started laughing at Leanart's lack of attention to what happened around him. Either he didn't care, or did not notice. Either way, entertaining.

"Well, Haseo, unless you see arrows or something pointing us towards anything that can help us find information faster, feel free to speak up."

Derrick then diverted his attention to the cave pointed out by Leanart. Going in first was not his intention. Traps had a tendency to gather where it was dark.

"Just because they made a tomb for him doesn't mean he stayed dead." Derrick uttered to no one in particular.

I go play MW2 for a few hours and all this happens say la vie

As they went to move away from the monk's stony glare he spoke. "If your going anywhere it had better be away from here. Your making everyone here who came to seek Lord Karnak's guidance uncomfortable."

Another voice responded to him. "Come now is that any way to speak to the lord's father?" A wizened old Dragonkin comes out, he's old even for his kind and it makes it hard to tell which clan he is from.

"His father? But he died almost 150 years ago."

"I don't remember him dying, I only remember him stepping down for Karnak to take the throne."

"My apologies I did not know who you were." The monk said as he went off to his duties.

"Yes yes now that we have that settled, it is good to see you again sire I hope you and your companions are well. I trust you're here to make your way through the catacombs again?"

"So...William is the lords father...this might explain a lot later on. Raisavoir thinks." But for now, I might as well keep my mouth shut, and try to listen in on these conversations."

Leonart pushed his way back to stand in between the Dragonkin and the rest of his team. "Again, Master Dragonkin? What do you mean 'again'? We've never been to the catacombs. Or, to be on the safe side, I can assume that the majority of us have not. I for one would remember such sights or would have acknowledged them in one of my books. Please, do explain this for the benefit of my readers. We can't have a twist in this plot too early, you know."
