Gotcha covered in my block of text ;D
they are good enough to get a vid :D
Absolutely! :D

I'm more of an Aenima man myself but I'll take classic Tool any day.
I usually listen to 10,000 days but you have to do sober if you want to exhibit them.

I've been listening to a lot of Savatage lately. They have quite the range of music, and some amazing songs. Largely influenced by classical music, which makes for some beautiful songs.
I also second Kamelot, (they've been posted on the first page, good song choice too) Eluveitie, (again, first page) and Sabaton was mentioned but no songs were posted so...
Oh, and Judas Priest. I can't not recommend Judas Priest.
Lastly, (I'd keep going, but I don't have the time. If you want more, quote me and I'll post some more when I get back, but I think the rest of the community can give you plenty) one album from Iced Earth. The Glorious Burden (and the Battle Of Gettysburg bonus disc). Their only album with Ripper (Tim Owens, was with Priest for two albums) and it is fucking amazing.
If you have the time, listen to this. One of the most powerful songs I've ever heard (it is three songs on the disc, but they're all parts of the whole).
Not from Glorious Burden, but was recorded with Ripper.
Yeah... I love Power Metal and the like. Anyway, enjoy.

Don't listen to much metal anymore (noise rock and similar genres have replaced it in my playlists), but I'd recommend Melvins. Very sludgy, extremely heavy. They're both modern and not modern, though I think their best album is the one from 1993, Houdini.

I feel like I need more metal in my life. Could you please recommend some.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron

Very recommended, and stay away from Mercury. (Ain't I a stinker?)

-Nothing "Satanic" as in praising Satan...'cause he sucks.
What precisely is wrong with Satan? As I know several Satanists and they are the nicest people I know, they do not promote "evil", they promote choice, free-will and questioning authority. As to the whole killing and torturing people for petty reasons I do believe it is 's god who does that, not Satan. You know, the whole Great Flood and nuking Sodom and Gomorrah. My Christian grandmother is so mean spirited with her religious justifications.

I'm sorry if I offended you, but Mr. Morningstar doesn't impress me and he never will. Don't need his message in my head. Just like I'm sure Satanist don't sit around listening to Christian bands.

THANK YOU for throwing me a thread EXACTLY in line with my tastes. I've been a crazed listener for almost a decade now. I've been to so, SO many corners of the scene. Here's some recommendations:

Coroner (Progressive Thrash Metal)
Mindblowing band in every sense possible. Heart-pounding polyrhythmic riffs, extremely technical and sophisticated leads, and relevant, human songwriting to top it all off.
Only downside are the vocals.
Ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2uhQPpQAYs

Animals as Leaders (Progressive Metal)
Innovative guitarwork, heavily atmospheric, capable instrumentalists.
Only downside are the LACK of vocals ^_^
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lrwYPhHThc

Megadeth (Technical Thrash Metal)
Solid thrash band with some of the most ear-catching riffs in the genre. Politically charged songwriting to accompany it.
Downside: Have lately gotten stale, extremely corny lyrics (used to be far more substantial)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrevUFE_yGA

Kalmah (Melodic Death Metal)
Amazingly atmospheric, great hooks and themes. Incredible use of synth. Manages to supercede the cliches of generic melodeth, goes beyond vikings and into politics, religion, and deeper social matters.
Downside: Songs can feel somewhat rushed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgJyahHXdo8

Artillery (Technical Thrash Metal)
The catchiest, poppiest band in the mix, however, some of the most blistering riffs in this collection. Very sophisticated songwriting.
Downside: Lack of layering
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ebgca0odXxQ

Opeth (Progressive Death Metal)
Makes Satan break into tears. Beautiful, atmospheric, incomprehensibly proggy, mindblowing songwriting, envelops you in a vortex of emotion and never lets go. Steller band. Mikael Akerfealdt is a genius. At that, all of the prior musicians are :D
Downside: Acquired Taste
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jecDFEfigoI

Sorry if that was something of a lengthy post, I just had to.
Enjoy listening.

Reading what you've written, I think that we share similar taste; I always adore metal, not heavy metal, and yes IMO there is a difference. Metal is more hard edgy melodic intense rock, heavy metal is fast streaming guitar solos and screaming lyrics. If your more of a METAL fan, I would go with System of A down, Korn, or Tool.

The great thing about metal that makes it superior to every other genre IMO is that there's metal for everything, no matter what mood or type you like.

Hope this helped you.

Machine Head, Malefice, Becoming the Archetype , Betraying the Martyr ,Early Children of bodom ( first 3 albums, maybe the fourth), Dark Tranquilly ,Gojira, Gorod, The Haunted , Heaven Shall Burn (not satanic) , Human Error, In Flames, Kataklysm, Meshuggah, Miss May I, the #12 looks like you,Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, Opeth, Parkway Drive, Powerwolf, Blackguard( Profugus Mortis) the Agonist, Rise to Remain, Darkest Hour, Sylosis, Xerath, Dominia, Alestorm, All Shall Perish, The Devil Wears Prada, As I lay Dying, the faceless, Viatrophy ..

That's a pretty complete list methinks. Covers a wide variety of bands from different areas of the genre. None of them are satanic, although a few of them have a few things to say a bout Christianity(and religion in general), but a good few of them are actually Christian bands (Becoming the Archetype, Betraying the Martyr, Miss may I).

Top 5 recommended in case you're overwhelmed
*Machine Head
*Miss May I
*Becoming the Archtype
*All Shall Perish
*Viatrophy

Just on a note, ( not trying to start anything, just as a point of information) The "satanic" black metal bands that exist are not devil worshippers. Satanism ( at least LeVeyan Satainsm) has nothing to do with Satan/ devil worship. Just for the sake of interest, I would suggest doing some research, not so you will be converted, just because I think you should know the difference between satanism and devilworsip, plus cutting out satanic metal is kinda shutting the door on an awesome part of the genre that can be pretty melodic/beautiful.

"Satanists do not believe in the supernatural, in neither God nor the Devil. To the Satanist, he is his own God. Satan is a symbol of Man living as his prideful, carnal nature dictates. The reality behind Satan is simply the dark evolutionary force of entropy that permeates all of nature and provides the drive for survival and propagation inherent in all living things. Satan is not a conscious entity to be worshipped, rather a reservoir of power inside each human to be tapped at will. Thus any concept of sacrifice is rejected as a Christian aberration?in Satanism there?s no deity to which one can sacrifice"- the Church of Satan's current leader Peter H. Gilmore

Just so you know, it was really fun putting together this post. I hope you find something you like.

[HEADING=1]Mastodon[/HEADING]
Mastodon is the first thing that came to mind. Their older albums like Leviathan and Blood Mountain particularly. New one's great, but sounds less your style.

[HEADING=1]Protest the Hero[/HEADING]
These guys don't scream much, but they're super technical and melodic.

[HEADING=1]Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe[/HEADING]
Hellbilly Deluxe is one of my favorite albums ever. And it's not Satanic exactly, but I wouldn't play that shit in church. Can't go wrong with Rob Zombie.

[HEADING=1]Mushroomhead[/HEADING]
How do you feel about Korn or Slipknot? Mushroomhead is a little older, but they're cut from the same cloth, though I think they are a lot heavier.

[HEADING=1]Amon Amarth[/HEADING]
Amon Amarth is a little more power metal than I think you're going for, but I think you'll like the vocals. And vikings are fucking cool.

Testament:

Textures - I'm told the vocalist sounds a lot better live. Didn't really like his voice here, but pretty good over all.

Kalmah - not sure if Satanic:

Naglfar[footnote]Fun fact about the name, it's the ship from Norse mythology [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naglfar] made entirely of the finger and toenails of the dead. Pretty metal, but of course, it's from Norse mythology.[/footnote] - not even sure if English:

Well if you want a female vocalist, you can always try. That's the new female vocalist apparently.

That's the old singer I believe. You can also hit up Epica and Nightwish.
