Poll: Anime Dubbed VS Subbed

Raw, I watch mine without being dubbed or subbed. Where's that option?

There are so few of you that you don't get the option.

On topic: I mostly watch it subbed. If the dub is really good or I'm with mates that don't usually watch anime then I watch it dubbed.

I go with English/Dub first because I don't want to be reading during action scenes. Sure, I can do it, but I may miss a little something now and then. Next time I watch a series, I so it with subtitles to see which I like better.

If it's dubbed by Sunrise, odds are I'll like it.

japanese is a beautiful language, the american voice acters make all the characters aound like wimps/thugs/sluts plus its taught me loads of japanese!

Generally I enjoy watching subbed animes, but that doesn't mean I won't watch the dubbed ones.

I don't Care for whichever if I like the anime am trying to watch but almost all the time I rather just watch it subbed because watching it dubbed some times has horrible voice acting and some jokes don't carry over well in English then in Japanese

Dubbed. I only have one eye, so it's hard enough for me to keep up with what's going on in the first place. If I have to read subtitles, I can barely read them fast enough to keep up, and I miss everything else.

I prefer subs to dubs but I will, on a rare occasion, watch dubs if they are decent. I can stand mostly the ones I grew up with, but more recent ones not so much.

The issue is that most of the shows I watch get either no dubs or are horribly butchered by the voice actors.

Both, but mostly dubbed. Only subbed if the dub is really bad or hard to find.

I can think of quite a few dubs that are actually very good, and even if they're not, you get used to it quickly (again, as long as they're not unbearably bad).

When i first watched death note it was dubbed and the show was funny at points but it was there that i was literally on the ground laughing

If it is dubbed well then I prefer dubs a lot more, believe it! Some anime have really good dubs so it is possible.

I hope to god Naruto wasn't one of your examples.

Yeah, sorry. Wasn't very clear with that. The Naruto dub is aweful! He said it so much I quit half way through one of the early episodes.

Phew, I was afraid I may lose all my faith in humanity. In that case I agree with you, some dubs (I recall Princess Mononoke was among them) aren't bad, I still prefer the original language but its nice that they took to dubbing a bit more seriously.

Have you seen FMA dubbed? That's my favourite one out of them all, what did you think of that?

I think I actually did find that one acceptable, I'll have to check it out again when I get home but I still prefer any given show to be in the language it was intended. I've personally been thinking up of my own little creation and since its meant to concentrate on a realistic and multicultural environment, language is gonna be a huge focus, be it a matter of social class or actual nationality etc and if that were taken away from me by someone who didn't want to read, it would ruin both their experience of it and my own effort. I guess to a point I see dubbing as disrespectful to the makers (though it was authorized by them, I'm sure)

From my experience, I like the series better when they're dubbed, especially the Dragon Ball/DBZ series. However, I think the movies by Miyazaki and similar films are better subbed.

Subbed the majority of the time. The voice actors they find for these things are freaking terrible and the language just tends to come out badly too. Plus theres just some words/phrases that sound alot better/ more dramatic in alot of scenes.

I orginally watched Bleach dubbed but changed quickly since it sounded off on many occassions, the voice actors weren't bad just the language change failed them

Also dubbed episodes come out much later than subbed episodes meaning dubbed fans tend to be a bit behind

Coming straight from the manga I can't stand the FMA series anime, it just pulls things out of nowhere - such as it being set in Germany and adding in a robot?

Sticking to Full Metal Alchemist:Brotherhood, follows the manga beautifully and had some great animation and intro songs

If there's a dub, I'll take the dub. If the anime hasn't been dubbed yet or is not going to be, I'll watch subbed.

I'm not picky with voice acting at all, whether it be anime or games. As long as I like the characters in the first place, that's all I care about it.

True, but they properly established it as Germany and had London in it too. But yeah it is solely because they made the anime too soon after the manga started.

I tend to lead towards subtitles - English dubs don't often fit well. The only exception to this is the aforementioned Full Metal Alchemist, and to an extent, Wolf's Rain.

I've tried watching Transformers: Victory with an English dub. It felt wrong. I got to watch Beast Wars II with subtitles though, and that was an improvement on the English dubs.
