Got my first one in 2001 I think, it kept going strong till around the time the slim came out, poor thing finally kicked the bucket.

The slim is still going, as far as I know. I bought a chipped one while on holiday in Thailand, since there were a lot of games that didnt get an EU release, and the old one was sold to a friend. The Thai one is going strong.

My PS2 just decided to fail in as many obscure ways as possible... I got it used about a year ago. Now, when the controller works, it doesn't read the disc. When it reads the disc, it turns the controller off. What's up with that?

The original PS2 seemed to have a problem with needing its laser replaced, but they took a pretty long time to get to that point. It was also a pretty simple repair, and once fixed would have no additional problems. PS2s were some pretty well-built hardware.

I think I've had mine since about 2002 ish... It's not once failed on me. No freezes, nothing.

If only my 360 could take an example from it.

It still works, and thank God too, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to play Klonoa 2!

I've had my PS2 Slim since '05 and never had any problems with it. Although the original controller did go out on me.
Overall, it's a durable little thing. Seems like a lot of people have had issues with the controllers though. Oh well, I'd rather pay a few dollars to replace a controller than an entire system.

I need to replay San Andreas once in a while.
Keeps me happy.
Me too.
But I eventually got it for the PC for mods.
Still, when I want to play a great Burnout game (like 3 or Revenge) I got to go to the ps2.

My ps2 never broke but I refused to buy one until they worked out the kinks. If something has a reputation of breaking easily, I wont buy it.

Speaking of that, what's the failure rate of the new 360s? I want a console that gets good support.

I've gone through two of them, need to grab a third. That's not because of manufacturer errors of course, it's just because the Slims have a hard time surviving all of the moving I've been doing over the last 4 or so years.

I woned the Ps2 slim. My brother broke the disk reader a few years ago, but it was easily repaired.

I've had mine since 2002, fat, and it works just fine. The last few years I've used Swap magic to play imported games, but it still works fine, although sometimes it may have slight problems reading a disc or detecting a memory card, but that's nothing a reset won't fix.

My 1st did.

My 2nd one, while dusty, still will work.

Unlike a certain OTHER console at the moment. *cough* 360 *cough*

As far as I can tell my original PS2, release year model (SCPH-39003), is still working. I last used it on holiday to play some Star Wars Battlefront 2 after I crippled myself sleeping in a bed too small for me on the Isle of Wight. Ended up stuck laying motionless for 3 days but for hobbling to the toilet and to bed. Anyway, it worked great, SWBF2 and Burnout 3: Takedown worked beautifully on it.

After I bought my PS3 it had a few falls off some 3 foot high drawers onto hard wooden floors, so I was worried, though it seems it survived unscathed. I hope to be able to still be using it nostalgically well into my 30's if not for longer.

My old Playstation works fine too, but the lid is a bit loose, sometimes needs weighting down.

My PS2 is a veteran, survived the most horrific moments of the Sony-Nintendo-Microsoft war. It has seen horrible things that left it traumatized for ever.

It stills run SW:Battlefront 2 like a champ tho.

I got mine the day the PS2 was released and I've played it for countless hours and it has never failed me. Though ironically I've played my PS3 for about 40 hours and it has already failed me several times.

Same with my Xbox 360! And Wii!

It never broke on me once. A very few small number of disks (Blue bottom surprisingly) scratch and is unreadable but for 7 years, thats not bad at all.
