Fanservice never really ruined an anime for me
and it does get annoying when people give fanservice as their only reason for disliking an anime.

To be honest, it's kind of insulting to watch something for its supposedly great story, only to have it pull you aside and say "nice attempt at sophistication, poseur, but I know the only reason why you're here. Now have some titties." This happened to me in Mass Effect 2, surprisingly enough. Every time the camera zoomed in on Miranda's (admittedly somewhat impressive) ass, my reaction was a silent "really, Bioware? I wanted to know more about her screwed-up family and be able to attribute some depth to her so I could actually bring myself to care about this frigid ***** as a character."

Openly implying that you have low expectations of your audience is a pretty effective way to alienate the people trying to take your work seriously.

I recently made a thread talking about the new anime Highschool of the dead and to my surprise I had several people say the the huge boobs and random pantie shots known as Fansevice turned them off from the anime. I thought huge bouncing boobies and up skirt panty shots was all guys could ever ask for? Is it because when they finally get what they want they realise they dont truly want it anymore? or are men loosen their balls? What do you think?
1. It's animated. Animated girls aren't attractive (except to certain people) because they're animated. They're not real. Animated nudity is fine when done in a serious tone (a la Ghost in the Shell), but you won't find many people who actually enjoy it for sexual pleasure.
Actually you'd be surprised how many people, even on this site alone, are into hentai. Not sure why you think that but the amount of hentai on the internet alone is enough to show that many people do enjoy it. :3

As to why we do, since I expect someone to ask that at some point I find that this is the most appropriate explanation.

Yes.
It really does.
I can understand an Anime that is Fanservice but, most of the time Fanservice is added to a series that otherwise doesn't need it.
And even Non-Ecchi series has fanservice.
Its pointless unless you want to fap, takes away from the story and characters(And in my opinion degrades a few of the characters), and most of the time its done in bad taste.

And a lot of fanservice now is Porn.
If i wanted to watch porn id go watch freaking porn.

But some people like it.
Fine with me, one of my favorite Animes of all time is a bit of an Ecchi series(though about halfway through the fanservice just disappears).
Though there are plenty of Anime and Manga that are amazing and managed to hook people without adding boobs every 5 min.

What if it's just there but not really shoved in your face, like Cortana?
I never really counted Cortana as 'fan service', because she just is. I never once saw her in 'that way', regardless of 'curve updates' throughout the trilogy. I'm sure some people saw the digital representation of a digital woman in a sexual way, but she was just 'Cortana' to me. I honestly only really remember that she's blue and digital.

Fan service is just sexuality for the sake of itself, and Cortana, to me, was never very sexualized.

I noticed you often get a lot of bullshit thrown at you in the forums for talking like a reasonable adult. Doesn't that ever bother you? :-/
Meh. It's the internet.
Insecure kids gotta look tough, introverts gotta be loud, and closet bigots and racists have to let it out somewhere. I prefer to act like myself, and that bugs some people. But really, at the end of the day, if people yell at you all day on the internet...it's just the internet. I won't lose sleep over it.

It's because the material of the show is supposed to be serious and dramatic. The fanservice is out of place. In other words, it's inconsistent. Fanservice isn't a problem when the show is more casual and fun, or sexy, but HotD would be much better if it stuck to being dramatic and scary.

ATTENTION, EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS:

Please don't let OP's comment turn you off to watching (or better, reading) Highschool of the Dead. The show and manga are still absolutely brilliant, people are just complaining because the fanservice is pointlessly staining that brilliance.

I hate fan service. Cartoons aren't sexy, apparently men can't watch anything anymore without their being a token pair of tits in there (I'm suprised more aren't offended) and it makes me feel inadequate.
but your avatar has cleavage, so your argument is INVALID.

OT: DUDE, i can't believe you assies are so... pussies... it's only panties and/or boobs, if the show is good, and these fanservices are there... WHY hate on the fanservice? it doesn't bring nothing to the table? what about giggles?!

I'm not usually concerned with ecchi (or even Hentai for that matter), but there's a time and place for everything. While it can add to the experience in some animé genres or pieces, it'll detract from others, yet seem to fairly common overall even in places where it doesn't belong. For instance, having a gang of water melon smugglers jiggling around in an otherwise serious suspense thriller just isn't the right combination.

See the first episode of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei for a staggering example of a "swimsuit episode" not only severely disturbing in its own right (given that the almost the entire main cast is or looks blatantly underage), but completely and polar opposite to everything that made the first two seasons good (horror/mystery/suspense etc.).

Some of it can also get somewhat too weird and/or fetishistic for a larger (western) audience to enjoy, taking away from the overall experience.

On the other hand, there are genre's and animé where it's entirely appropriate, and Highschool of the Dead would seem such an Animé to me at least from what I've heard of it (though I haven't checked it out yet). Can't really understand the protests on it in that particular regard, but maybe people are just fed up with it due to overexposure in so many Animé titles?

TL;DR:

There's nothing wrong with fanservice in itself, it's just spread out to more genres and shows than it could remain a benefit to. I think much of the resentment comes from that.

I'm not a cartoon nor famous so it's not fan service... so argument = SUPER VALID

If I wanted to watch porn I'd look for that. These kinds of shows are either selling out or pure cock teases masquerading as a normal genre. Get with the program.

I guess I got used to it. It's like seeing a streaker passing your house every day; After a while, you just start ignoring it.

Still...Boing.

Honestly if it's not blatent and over the top I don't mind it, but I prefer it when it's there to further the story (make you like / dislike a character, show their mindset, etc) rather then just gratuitous panty/tit shots.

Yes it is often overdone and tends to make shows look like they have nothing else to show you "hey the plots boring but look it's a fake woman and her fake bra"

Characters can have very sexy appearence but it's the contrived sexy poses outside of say a situation where they are trying to attract someone is the annoying thing because it's such a transparent mechanic and feels forced.

Gilian Anderson in the X-files was always sexy but she didn't spend every episode running around in her bra and pants

I found the fanservice in HOTD hilarious, but later on somewhat annoying. I caught myself thinking "Come on...enough is enough, alright?". I dont want to get aroused every ten seconds while I'm watching someone hack zombies! One can actually overdo fanservice.

some of it like OMG BOOBS!!!!1111!!!!ONE ELEVEN bothers me it gives anime a bad name crossovers/cameo on the other hand are great like the onsen (yes I know its ironical) from Gurren langan had some really good cameo,s from other Gainax series (the bunnie girls in the onsen are from other series like Gunbuster Mahoro Matic and Neon Genesis Evangelion to name a few) the same goes for non-anime crossovers if I want to see naked boobs I,ll prefer the internet
PS reference to other movies/TV series are also fanservice right? I also prefer that

Frankly it doesn't bother me at all until the point where I start getting tired of it (HotD is suffering from this) shows such as Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou had it's fair share of fanservice, but frankly I didn't care. So long as it isn't done to death in a series, I don't mind.

It's annoying, for me at least.
It's hard to pay attention to, say, a swordfight, when both duellist have a g-size bra.

No it doesn't bother me. I don't watch anime for the purpose of seeing fanservice anyway.
