Im very surprised, judging by my schools atitude i would have guessed this would have been a one sided argument swaying towards family guy, im pleasantly surprised to say the least.

Futurama is more laid back and therefore easier to watch for pure "i'm bored, what now?" entertainment. But it also has a lot more bad puns, its a lot more static, and generally not as intelligent as Family Guy. I like them both and watching too much Family guy can get a little intense, while watching too much Futurama can get a little boring.
I'm not sure if you've actually truly seen Futurama if you think Family guy is more intelligent. Futurama by far has better, more intelligent social commentary than Family Guy and Futurama has been known to move people more emotionally than Family Guy does. (Jurassic Bark, Luck of the Fryish, etc)

As for static, Family Guy is more static. Many Family Guy episodes are on very serious subjects, but the manner in which these subjects are portrayed and finally resolved are very juvenile. Subtlety is a charm that Futurama has. Not only this, but the resolutions Family Guy usually resorts to are horrible. The characters are usually given two options and two options only when something serious happens: Option A, which is terrible to pick, and Option B, which still just plain sucks. So, the characters have to think and choose and go through deep ramifications and other such things, but then at the end of the episode, Seth randomly pulls out Option C with the "NOW EVERYTHING IS BETTER AND EVERYONE WINS" card, making the turmoil and ramifications and other such emotional conflicts the characters went through completely void and contradicts the point of making them go through that.

I'm ecstatic to see that Futurama won!

I always feel that Futurama is a show that's been unappreciated by the, um, non-nerd masses for nearly the entire duration of the show's run.

No show is more quirky, has stranger, more funny dialogue, or has more ridiculous episodes!

I prefer Futurama over Family Guy, mainly because Futurama has been more consistently funny. There are more funny episodes than unfunny episodes. Family Guy started out strong, and as one of my favorite shows, but character derailment (namely Stewie) and far too many overly long gags ( three to four minutes of Peter skating around a stage saying 'Starlight Express' over and over is not funny) and random cut-away gags kinda killed my interest.
South Park is another one of my favorites. While they tend to have a similar comedic nature to Family Guy, South Park seems to have more structure and planning. The gross-out and envelope pushing jokes, usual, have a point and aren't in there just to push the envelope.
This is another good point. Family Guy tries to combine South Park and the Simpsons, and fails miserably. Yes, the randomness is funny, but it lacks the point of South Park, and the originality and character development of Simpsons. Whereas Futurama exceeds them both. Futurama has some strong political views, but they don't force them down your throwt. They convey them through subtelty. Things like oil dependency, global warming, war, commercialism and religion all get covered, especially religion. And even though it takes place in the year 3000, they still manage to make comments on current events. But it's not offensive, as can be the case in both FG and SP. South Park, Futurama and even Simpsons has a place, a niche it fills. Family Guy does not.

Futurama.
Also, this.

They're both good but I'd side with Futurama any day. It's genuinely clever, instead of idiotic stupidity. That, and I cheered when I heard it was coming back. I didn't even know Family Guy ever got cancelled.
Same here! I almost did a somersault when I heard about Futurama :D

I like both a lot, but in the end Family guy make me laugh more. Plus it gave me and my dad something to watch together

Well, let's see. Futurama makes me laugh, and Family Guy makes me so bored I want to slip into a coma before I can watch more of it. Futurama please.

But to each their own. Family Guy has earned its place and I do enjoy watching it every now and again, but nine times out of ten, if Futurama and Family Guy are on at the same time, I'll be watching Family Guy.
Did you mean to say you'll be watching Futurama? It sounded like you liked it much better in the rest of your post. I find your ending confusing, honestly.

Well to be perfectly and bluntly honest i don't prefer one over the other. Both have good points and bad points.

I don't watch the following very often at all and by very often i mean maybe one episode every 6 months or something if i'm lucky:

The Simpsons
Family Guy
South Park
Futurama

These shows are generally only watched when nothing else is on. So both Family Guy and Futurama are both the same in my eyes.

Futurama is better by far. I can't stand Family Guy. It's garbage.

Easily Futurama. I'm watching Family Guy at the moment and at times I find funny parts but overall it just isn't funny. I can't see what my friends see in it :/

family guy definitely. no matter what episode i watch i know i will enjoy it and the recent star wars episodes are absolutely brilliant. though i do hate the shows prevalence of 'time filler' moments that drag out for to long.

futurama to me is boring, the jokes are basic and just not funny. however i'm not sure if thats just due to having seen every episode ad nauseum.

I've got to say Futurama. Being a Brit some of the humour always gets lost in translation but Futurama comes over as funnier overall. Family Guy's good but often I sit thinking "What?" when I should probably be laughing.

I could deal with Family Guy's juvenile humor at the start, hell, I thought it was pretty funny, but what really killed the show for me was how Stewie was "derailed" (I use the quotes because to be derailed implies that a character is good in the first place) and how Brian is just an insufferably self-righteous mouthpiece for the author. The only character I really liked was Peter, if only because he was an exaggeration of every mentally retarded lead male character in every bad sitcom ever, and because the show used to be pretty confident in his toilet/random humor. Of course, now he's just the guy who says "it's like that time I..."

Futurama easily, no question, Futurama > Everything including The Simpsons. Hopefully they never make another Futurama episode ever so it can quit while it's ahead and not devolve into a [gasp][celebrity name here] wank-fest. One day Ringo Starr will put on some skinny jeans, horn rim glasses and a man-cardigan and say "I was on the Simpsons before it was cool".

As much as I like both I'm going to go with Futurama.
Futurama just has the better characters and the setting provides better potential for jokes.

I like Family Guy, it's good fun and as long as you look at it as what it is you will have fun watching it but Futurama is something else entirely. To me Futurama is one of the best things on T.V, certainly the best comedy. It's just flawless, from the emotional first movie with the time traveling Fry, to the high brow Creationism verse Evolution episode of the newest season or the damn funny Death by Snu-Snu episode, it encapsulates all the best things about comedy and story telling in general.
