Exactly. If you consider highschool to be your golden years, the rest of your life must suck.

My time in highschool has been up and down. My first year I was angry and lonely, last year I made more friends and met my girlfriend, and this year I'm getting increasingly pissed at the curriculum. It's OK.

I'll probably change this response once I'm in class again 2 weeks from now.

It was average. I probably would've been picked on more than I was, if I hadn't had someone accompanying me through the school halls. I started off frail and vulnerable and was sprinting my way through the corridors well ahead of my helper by the end of it. I don't know exactly where and when it happened, but I do know high school is where I really started building on my self-confidence.

The context is pretty simple: being disabled and suffering from a mild case of Cerebral Palsy, I tend to be physically knocked around pretty easily. Crowded halls in-between classes were a living nightmare for me for most of my Junior High years, but things got better after I was operated and received Botox shots. I discovered the joy of running my ass off instead of walking like everyone else.

The positive aspects of High School are largely physical, in my case. Puberty means an increase in muscle tone and, finally, some sort of pretension towards intellectual maturity. I've been growing a beard on an on-off basis from as early on as I possibly could, seeing as keeping a nice ring of facial hair is the only thing that defines me as a mature individual, according to some.

I'm baby-faced, even at 28. If I don't have facial hair and if my hair's been freshly trimmed, most of the bank tellers, cashiers and sales reps of this world assume I'm an early teen. So naturally, finally coming into my own physically was a life saver.

The negative aspects involved my problems with Math. The standard teaching method as defined by Quebec's Ministry of Education just never worked for me - at least, not as far as Math is concerned. I owned everyone's ass in enriched French and English classes, but I needed extra help for even the most basic fractions and algebra-related problems.

That put a bit of a damper on my overall enjoyment of the experience. I knew what my friends were working on, but I couldn't swap stories about the teacher or this or that assignment or somesuch. The handful of idiots I knew liked to assume I was a "special case" because I sucked at Math, but I've always been pretty hard to successfully intimidate. I tend not to take a lot of guff, so even the most tenacious bullies cut me some slack after a while.

So... Yeah. I can't say I completely understand where the "Ohmigawd, High School is HELL!" mindset is coming from, but I also won't go so far as to say it was one of the best periods of my life. If I *had* to give an estimate as to what my best years were, I'd say my CEGEP (also known as College) years.

As for my Bachelor's? Hm. It *was* fun, but it wasn't so much of a breeze as College was. The BA's when I really started feeling that adults could be far, far more cruel than kids ever would be. Ever sink three weeks, practically nonstop, into a twenty-page paper only to receive a middling grade for all your efforts? I have. That's Slap to the Face material, right there, and it freaking hurts.

I hated high school ... it was terrible ... worst years of my life.
College is so much better. I have more free time, more friends, less homework, and my father isn't badgering me constantly anymore.

Yep. That happened to me all the time in High School. Hasn't happened since ...

... school. Made friends, played games, went to school. Maybe I'm just a neutral person and don't feel many strong emotions, probably the case. I had fun no doubt but no "greatest days of my life"

Didn't get picked on, had a decent amount of friends, got pretty good grades without study. Not brilliant, but not bad.

To paraphrase Terry Pratchett: The best thing about time is that it keeps putting me further and further away from my high school years.

If someone every invents time travel, I would send a note back to myself letting earlier me know that I will survive it and that it WILL end. I con't think of a more uplifting moment for the earlier me during those years.

It was okay. I had good grades and did a lot of cool things like produce theatre productions for an independent company, and made my first film (it was terrible).

Some of the choices I made were not great, and if I had the chance I would do a lot of it over. Overall, I'm happy to be a "grown-up".

Shit, that happened to you in High School?! They expected you to write full-size papers in freaking High School?! Where the fuck did you go to school to? It might be because I'm from Bizarro America (e.g. Canada), but I wasn't asked for more than four or five pages a pop until I started college. Even then, it wasn't more than seven or eight pages!

So, twenty? My mind is blown.

I lived. I thought it was pretty darn good at the time, but then I went to University and found out that it wasn't all that great. University is exponentially better.

I was never a good student, I was forced to attend religious classes, I was forced to have my hair short and wear an uniform.
I was bullied in my senior years, I was a loner, I had a horrible sleep schedule.

Now it wasn't all that bad, the beggining was good. I had good friends, I had some good times going and when I wasn't having them, I didn't gave a fuck. I broke a teacher's table in an act of rebellion and never got blamed by it.

Alright I guess.

I managed to get through the majority of it without trying and achieving passable grades. I started out in a relatively new school because my parents were... really narrow minded in a lot of random things, so I wasn't able to go to the big High School near me.

I pretty much new everyone coming in, and the kids who typically become the High School bullies kinda lost a lot of their friends to the Big school, so they were forced to mellow out. So you pretty much were acquainted with everyone in the beginning, and me and a few other friends sort of fell in together and lasted through High School, with my occasional girlfriend at the time and her friends intermingling with us.

It was a nice change up from Middle School, which was pretty tough.

I really disliked years 7-9, when I fell out with my oldest friends and got bullied, which kinda ruined my confidence, but I got over it, made some new friends, and by the end of year 11 was actually very outgoing and popular, mainly due to me having spent 'the friendless years' reading and listening to comedy on the radio, which forged me into someone rather astute and witty.

All in all, despite its rather drastic and horrible beginning, it really helped me develop, and, to use an abominable cliché, made me find myself, and my niche as a person!

7.5/10

I actually really liked high school. Not the best experience I had but far from the worst. Pretty fun four years.

At least it's a million times better than Middle School. I still have nightmares.
