I'll side with the nation that has the largest air force in the world, the infrastructure to put those planes over any patch of dirt on this planet within 24 hours, men and women capable of getting them there, and the ordinace to level whatever the fuck is underneath those planes.

In short, sorry England, you're the 51st state. We'll leave Top Gear alone, though.
Quoted for truth.

With the way the UK is, they would never try to wage a war against the US because of the simple fact that they rely on America for large scale engagements. And for a similar reason, America would never attack the UK b/c whenever we go to war, we tend to bring them along so we can call ourselves a Coalition or the Allies.

In the end, we go hand in hand. Like two somewhat disfunctional brothers.

Well, seeing as I'm American and the UK would have to do something to really piss us off seeing how close we are now I hate to say it but I gotta side with the US.

As a Welshman I'd have to go with England. They're closer and make crumpets.

As for who would win, it depends on who initiates the war. If England, it'd be over in weeks.
If America, then I expect it would end up with half the world against it, including some of the world's major powers. Doesn't look good for anyone no matter what happens.

Being Irish I'd probably support the Americans.

800 years of oppression, and all that, ya English pricks.

I would side AGAINST the one who threw the first rock. since neither England or USA have a legit reason to attack the other, the first one to strike would probably the the biggest threat to the western world.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the treaties that exist between the commonwealth nations mean that if one goes to war with a non-commonwealth nation the others down tools and come to help?

And anyway, "...we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender..."

If you want to side with the winning side you'd have to go with the United States of America. The United Kingdom doesn't have the numbers or equipment to win.

In all reality the idea is totally silly anyway. The British and USA armed forces are incredibly integrated. British sailors are on US ships and vice versa. We share the same air bases and train together all the time. There is no conceivable set of events that would pit these to nations against each other. Even is all hell broke loose and the shit hit the fan massively the US and the UK would stand with each other. We might go down but we would be standing back to back as our enemies surrounded us.

Of course Britain.
Just had to add the bold part.Leave us neutrality loving Southerners out of it.

So yeah The Republic of Ireland would remain neutral although there's still a lot of people here(I'm not one for the record)who would be hoping for a U.S victory

I'm English. All I would say is, if England threw the first stone then we'd quickly get crushed by America and all the military help they can get. At best, we could try to persuade some third world countries to help us, but more likely than not they'd rather see us fall than survive. If America started the war though for some obscene reason, well, that'd be interesting.
If the U.S did...and went all out ya know...and not dicking around like we do in the sandbox....It could be over in less than a month
You're right. If England starts it, it'd be over fast since America would just trash England. However, if America started it, thanks to the rest of Europe and other countries like Canada and Australia, it'd probably be over pretty fast. However, war is never simple and those pesky current inhabitants would interfere with the invading army's plans.

Again, depends who starts the war.
well depends who is leading the American Military....If he is your stereotypical American Cowboy...other countries might just cut there losses with England...butt if the leader is more...liberal and "humanitarian" <--(does not deserve to be near a war) then maybe....it may have been a long time ago...but everyone still remembers those 2 explosions that told a country that had NEVER surrendered and WAS prepared to let every civilian die, to step back.

True USA will kick our asses, but we will make them suffer for their victory, we shall not go quietly..

And hopefully the EU section of NATO will support us but even if they don't I assure the Americans that their armies will have to crush every last bit of our culture and all our people..

And by that time the Russian Federation, The People's Republic of China and the rest of the world will have imposed a 'No Fly' Zone over the UK to allow the British to fight back..

Considering that the UK nukes are actually kept in Scotland, England wouldn't actually have any nukes and thus, would probably topple pretty fast.

...Of course if they meant the UK, by saying England (Sorta like meaning Canada by saying Ontario), then things may be different. Good ol' mutual destruction.

Not as clean cut as it apparently looks.

Considering Britian is part of the European Union. She also has the Commonwealth countries.

Sure, Britian wouldn't stand a chance on her own, but she doesn't have to, as long as she didn't start the fight, America would have to deal with a lot more than just a little island nation.

Well as it just deleted my last post I'll be brief..

True us here in England will inevitably lose.. but you America will have to crush every last remnant of our culture, our people and the offices of our right wing papers..

And if America will never have the moral right to regulate the world ever again.. hooray, I feel like a proper martyr..

Doesn't matter America wins.
Nobody wins, we both have nukes, Britain may not have as many but its still enough to take America out
We have enough missiles and counter measures to knock them out of the sky, still wouldn't be pretty, still.

Who would win I would say would depend on who makes the first strike and on what circumstances the war would start if America invaded I would presume the E.U would be at our (England) back not to mention the fact that other countries accross the world would probably use this to their advantage against either side, North Korea as an example may want to take out South Korea during this with America distracted.

You need to remember a large military is powerful but it is not a instant win button and takes more recources to supply it so therefore though it is stronger it can also have more weak points to target, a war isn't just won by the biggest gun but the ability to supply that gun and continue fighting. According to some stats I found (not super accurate but enough I think to prove how important logistics) for America it was suggested they had a logistical force of 153,100,000 in 2007 and a oil consumption 20,800,000 bbl/day (barrels used a day) in 2005 so this has probably increased since, so yeah hit a supply line fuel of oil and you can bet even the largest army is going to struggle for a while.

Besides what does America have to gain you could win a few teabags and bad weather congratulations :p

But anyway if you want to imagine the war even though it will never happen I was born and still live in England so I guess I'm England.

I for one would like to welcome our new american overlords! I honestly don't see how we could even put up a fight on a conventional war basis our goverment likes to talk the talk of a superpower but let's face it were a bug to be squashed by a real superpower.
