For once, I agree with the suer.

The school is bring racial tension. That's never a good sign.

That is extremely racist. Even the whole idea of "acting black" is racist. (I would argue that any black person who said so being racist too, and belittleing their own, since "acting black" usually means acting like a hip hop guy which means acting like an idiot)

As a Black guy I can say:

That what I'm doing now. Anyway, have you guys heard of Minstrel Show [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minstrel_show]? That's is why no black person respect someone who wants to be a wigger.

Well, actually, that my view. I don't respect anyone want to be an wigger.

Huh? Could I "express" that all Jews are scum and that Hitler was right and then expect no-one to be offended? Of course not.
Dude are you on crack? What the hell does that have to do with anything? Also godwins. Totally godwins.

Telling people to have fun with an obviously stupid stereotype is a laugh. No one really thinks they are going to dress like real people of that ethnicity. They will mock the stereotype. Its funny because its ridiculous that this could be thought of as true. Race is like eye color anyway, the day is stupid ill grant you but not offensive, not really. Not $75000 offensive.

Race is a non issue. Anyone should be able to make any JOKE about race and it shouldn't be an issue. I can make blonde jokes and sexist jokes because my friends know im not sexist. Its a joke. A funny thing not to be taken seriously or intending to portray a serious point.

Its also mocking WIGGERS. Ya know, the people who PRETEND to be black to look cool and fail miserably because they are seriously trying to make a parody of a stereotype a real identity? Thats hilarious.

This is both stupid and offensive I really don't know who could possibly think this was a good idea.

Seems to me that they're encouraging a stereotype. Win this one buddy!
I dont think people understand this day. I think i do. It wasnt called "pretend to be black wednesday" it was called "wigger" wednesday. Wiggers are racist. Wiggers purposefully pretend to act "black" to achieve an identity. They seriously think that the stereotype is true. This day was to mock wiggers by pointing out how hilariously stupid what they do is due to the idiocy of the stereotype.

The day was stupid, poorly worded, and a bad idea, but it isnt racist. Not at all.

A black student is suing her former Minnesota high school for celebrating "Wednesday Wigger Day," where white students pretended to be black during homecoming week, The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Wednesday.

Now I am not one to really be politically correct or get into a big huff over racial issues but hosting an event like this at a public school seems pretty fucking stupid to me.
My school did the same thing: Ghetto Fabulous Friday. It was always framed as some sort of celebration of urban culture, but instead it was just basically about taking every single harmful, poisonous and disgusting black stereotype and making fun of them. Awful, awful stuff.

Jeeze, why don't these schools get the kids to dress up in blackface and hand out free slices of watermelon and little Dixie cups of Grape Nehi? And they say we've come so far in race relations in America. Please.

Why is putting black makeup on offensive? So long as they were not discriminating and mocking black people with it what is wrong with it?

Ok tell me, how do you go about pretending to be a black person?
Are you saying black people behave differently than everyone else?
Why are you singling out black people as some kind of weirdo?
God you're such a racist.

See how stupid that was? But that could be a legit arguement, but you meant it in a non-offensive way, same here. They didnt have a "How to piss off black kids" meeting, they did it to support the kids i doubt it was meant to be racist and offend people.
regardless of intention "act like a black person day" inherently implies that black people act/dress/behave differently than white people, which is ignorant, offensive, and fucking racist. But I suppose by YOUR logic, I could dress up in gangster clothes for Halloween, with a gun in one hand and a KFC bucket in the other proclaiming "I'm a black person for Halloween, but it's alright because I'm not trying to be offensive!" all would be fine?

no, that's not how that works. "Black" people act no differently than "White" people, unless we're talking about stereotypes, which is exactly what "White" people are going to be basing their acting off of when it comes down to it, because the only difference between actual "black" people and actual "white" people is skin color, which should NOT be a god-damn issue in today's society.

tl;dr :none of US are saying that black people behave differently than anyone else, this fucking "wigger" day is, and that's what people are finding offensive.

though I will say that I find that girl wanting $75,000 for something that happened 2 years ago to be funny as hell.

White kids who grew up in perfectly sane households listening to hip hop are okay.
The one's who try to emulate the thug culture however, are by all means, the laughingstocks of civilization. Why you may ask?

Because, Hip Hop music tries to characterize what it's like to be apart of a minority group growing up in the harsh, unforgiving sub-sections of American society. To some it's a deadend lifestyle where their very births and properity are determined by society looking down upon their "African American ways".

When the "wigger" does this...it looses all meaning and the poetic understanding of suffering to a certain degree.

THERE IS NOTHING AT ALL NEGATIVE ABOUT MAKING FUN OF.."THE WIGGER". EVER.

If a school I went to did that I'd show up as stereotypically white as possible, because seriously this is stupid and schools shouldn't be encouraging the whole white gangsta thing.

Same.

There were a lot of them at my school, I tried to keep my distance but they wouldn't leave me alone. they acted like i was an abnormality for being black and notjoining them.

While those guys were annoying as hell, if the whole school were doing it i would get depressed too...after beating a few people with blunt objects.

The suit seems like overboard though. When she complained the stupidity stopped. the school board is dumb as hell but not malintended.

I hope the school wins to be honest. My thoughts are that her parents are putting her up to this because it's a golden opportunity to make a quick buck while stirring up a controversy that was never there to begin with. But I mean, what do I know? I mean it's fine and dandy for functions to satire certain aspects of 'white' culture. But the second satire is made of 'black' culture that ISN'T even TRUE black culture... everyone screams racism.

I personally don't see the racism, but what would I know, right?
