I suppose I'd be pretty depressed to be attending such a moronic, backwater school, too.
Hey, Minnesota isn't that backwater of a place. I should know as I actually live here.

OT: I thought that the idea was a bit funny, but I can see why she took offense.

Huh? Could I "express" that all Jews are scum and that Hitler was right and then expect no-one to be offended? Of course not.
Dude are you on crack? What the hell does that have to do with anything? Also godwins. Totally godwins.

The first poster implied that it couldn't be offensive because it was an expression. I said that was ridiculous, and showed him an expression that was (almost) undeniably offensive, proving that expression could be offensive. That's what it had to do with it. And it totally isn't Godwins, Nazis was an appropriate thing to bring up, since it's something most people can agree is offensive.

I actually have no idea where to start. "Wigger Day" stupid idea. Completely stupid. Suing a school that is essentially standing around doing nothing to support or stop "Wigger Day" also not smart but the school allowing this to go on is also completely stupid.
This whole thing is insane.
Im glad they took Brett Farve though.
I cant even...just... Oh come ON.

I figured this was something that a student organized, but the teacher?

Jesus Christ, did she not think that was a bad idea?

this is a brilliant idea! It's expressing their acceptance.
I think it's more likely to be expresserd in a mocking way rather than an accepting way
'Wigger' tends to be used exclusively as an insult, or at least over here it does

Incredibly insulting to the black community in general, though I guess it highlights the ignorance of the so-called "white" culture in a, "this is what they think we are?" kind of way.

Now I am not one to really be politically correct or get into a big huff over racial issues but hosting an event like this at a public school seems pretty fucking stupid to me.
I don't think that's political corectness, that's just straight up common sense.

And really?? Somebody honestly thought that was a good idea? Well, that's yet another American state I've lost all respect for. The other one is Alabama, since someone I used to know actually went to a fully segregated high-school. What. The. Fuck.

On one hand, it was pretty dumb on the part of the school - of course someone was going to try and sue over it.

But on the other, $75,000? For damages? What the fuck got damaged? Her ego? Her sense of self-ritiousness? I get offended by things all the time, you don't see me suing people over it, because I have this little thing called maturity that some evidently lack.

Most will just act like a stereotypical black person. Meaning they'll dress up like "gangsters" try to "talk black" and most likely some other stupid shit.

These are teenagers, quite a few do it normally, but giving them their own damn day to do it? I can't believe anyone thought this would be a good idea.
The funniest kinds are the ones I grew up with. White prep school kids who manage to both be rednecks while acting out black stereotypes. And then lots of them were overtly racist. It would make your head hurt if you tried to rationalize it.

heh jesus, long post is long.

at the sarcasm bit, fair enough, i meant it in a lighthearted way but it seems to have boiled your blood beyond return, so fair is that it was "not warranted".

slavery =/= dressing up, your saying my analogies were bad, while yes they may not have been amazing, as i was just going for the matter of fact the "theme" and "dressing up" as what the fact of those events are based on, slavery is by far wayyyyy far off comparatively. Now we weren't actually there, so I can't tell you if they just "dressed up" or truly were mimicking wiggers in every sense of the word, but dressing up is dressing up, which is the point i was getting at with the theme/social party argument, BUT if you DO remember i did point out that was for social/public events, which is why i was surprised the school allowed it. And on the last part on those parties, I haven't been to one, as that would take alot of work to mimic greeks in every sense of the word, and based on the fact that i dont like greek food i would probably pass on that part, as would alot of people i know, but i don't see how that is ignorant/stupid.

if greeks had an "american party" where they walked around like fatasses and ate fatty foods talking in an awful american accent, i would probably laugh and not care, if it happened at a greek school? i would once again be surprised the school allowed it.

what i was getting at with the wife beater part

wife beater - a term used with these types of shirts

alot of men get wrongly "perpetrated" http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/perpetrate into "abusing" their partners, and that is where the term "wife beater" is coined from, as most of those men are seen wearing those shirts or are put into police cars with that shirt on, most of the time it was used in slang with very ghetto or minority based races, alot of times it was used to discriminate against when people would be seen wearing them.

you kind of picked that one apart a little to closely, so i'm not going to get into it, and it wasn't meant to be much of a point there outside of just a wife beater theme

in not a single point in my post(s), did i ever "justify the schools actions", please quote it because i do not see it. Now based on the fact that the school said they would do something, which if it is true they did not do anything, then yeah I can see why a student would get a bit unsettled because of that. I still don't get how i would make the remark in my first comment if i thought i was wrong..that does not compute?

and while i've not seen "snotty white person day" i have seen some close to it, such as "Prep kid" day, where everyone wears shin socks/kacki's/striped tie with white shirt and possible a sweater vest if you got one, and quite afew people had slicked/combed hair involved with it.

hm. condescending suits you well i see, i came in more light hearted, for the fun of it, but it seems "serious business is serious" was what your intentions were there pretty hardcore, so i'll let you feel mighty and proud stepping on my wonderfully learned peasantry education, and my suspect grasp of english.
I was trying to explain why this crosses the line between a light-hearted theme party and a racist event. If you still don't understand why this is racist, nothing i can say will change your mind. Regardless, your use of the word perpetrate is still very very wrong, even after using the dictionary so um, yeah. One can't be 'wrongly perpetrated'. A crime or deception is 'perpetrated'. I think your trying to say that men are 'wrongly accused' of perpetrating a crime. I understand everything your saying about wife beaters and yes, its wrong, not all men are required to be offended, but if they are offended, they are right to be. American parties in foreign countries, still wrong.
well after i read into it more (and thanks to people posting other links),after my first comment i'll agree, especially after the first time it happened the school should have disallowed it. Maybe on first offense the schools should have just sent the kids home to change, but the next year or so that should have been detention/ISS, but i don't think 75,000 dollars is what i would call "justice" or "fairness", and i think the student in the matter knew that..

ah yes, i do see i did use it wrong there, i'll remember to not use it wrongly in the future.

and in that last paragraph..well i guess where that is we agree to disagree..i prefer people to be open with themselves and be able to joke about themselves in matters, but i guess you prefer differently.

I'll tell you guys why it's offensive.

"Wiggers" (from "white" and "******" mashed together) are white trash pretending to be "niggers" by being all gangsta and getting into rap and drugs and everything else that's considered "street". Universally a negative influence on teenagers and only makes black people look all the worse. Therefore it's racist. Seriously, go read YouTube comments on "gangsta" videos, I guarantee you'll see at least ONE user thinking he's cool being a wigger, because this racist trend is obnoxiously popular.

Well, that certainly doesn't sound like anything that should be going on in an educational facility, least of all if it's a public one.

On the other hand, it's very hard to sympathize with someone trying to get 75,000 $ over it, a compensatory claim that's beyond ridiculous for being offended over something that - while certainly questionable - involved no palpable discrimination, and wasn't even directed against her specifically. Although I suppose that's the whole punitive damages thing at play.

And with that, I declare the case of "Retards versus Golddigger" to be in session.
I love you, I read that entire post and was pissing myself at the end.

OT: I think it was insanely stupid of the school to even think that this was remotely even a positive idea.

Hehe, I find this to be quite funny. But that's just me and my politically incorrect humour. Nothing for schools.

Actually - Consider the news source, consider how dumb the school would have to be, and the money involved in the charges.

FOX is pulling a fast one, you're getting only a horrifically spinned version of the story.

Judges Justice Imperator_DK QC and Justice BGH122 QC presiding over the Escapist Crown Court's case of "Retards versus Golddigger".

It has a nice ring to it.

OT: This is pretty retarded on all counts, as Imperator pointed out. That a public institution should choose to do something that's so obviously going to cause offence and controversy (and hence potentially cost the public coffers a lot in compensation payouts) is retarded. That someone should not merely complain, but complain and demand a payout for no actual harm is also retarded.

Probably true. It's like when I read the Daily Mail, I always think by the end "That was entertaining, now I think I'll go buy a newspaper to see what's actually happened in the news today."
