Usually call it 'soda' in my head, but people where I am often refer to it as 'soft drink'. I don't know why, it's less timid than juice or squash.

Pop, being Canadian it is unacceptable to call it anything else.
Second, also because Coke is a brand of soft drink, not the soft drink itself. Pop.

Though it's not commonly used (I'm also Canadian) Soda I hear (boarder city).

I didn't know others called it "Coke" or "Cola" Those are a brand and a type. of Soft drink... Isn't that like calling video games in general "Nintendo" or any type of book "fantasy"?

What if you use combinations like sodapop or cocacola or pureheavenlyblissotherpleasespecify?

OT i have a need to be specific with my words so I always say the brand name and flavor (as in sprite or cherry pepsi) but if I'm speaking generally about carbonated beverages i randomly say soda or pop, There's no real consistent term where I live (Colorado)

Is anyone else reminded of Super Troopers when Farva orders a litre of cola?

Also, am I the only one who gets annoyed when I order a coke ant the waiter is all "Sorry, we only have pepsi" >:O Well get me a ****ing pepsi then, smartass!

I call it pop, only because
A)I live in Northern Kentucky
B)My parents are from Southern Ohio

It's a regional thing.

I call it Coke. In England, no one really calls it pop and soda usually means carbonated water, but not necessarily sweetened, at least in the South-East anyway.

I either refer to it by name or just say "a drink", rarely say pop or soda or the likes.

Tonic. I've lived in New England my whole life. More specifically in the very small closed off towns in New Hampshire and Vermont so I call it tonic when I'm here.

A fizzy drink, a soft drink, a carbonated beverage.

I don't like the terms pop or soda. Pop sounds childish to me for some reason and soda makes me think of baking soda.

Usually I'd just say what the actual drink is (if it's Coke, then 'Coke', if it's Sprite, 'Sprite' and so on), also sometimes more general terms like 'lemonade' for more generic drink products.
