All righty there! Since the PS2 is definitely one of the best systems out there for RPGS:

Persona 4
Persona 3 FES
Tales of the Abyss
Tales of Legendia
Digital Devil Saga
Digital Devil Saga 2
Shadow Hearts
Shadow Hearts 2
Star Ocean: Til the end of time
Disgaia
Disgaia 2
SMT Nocturne
Xenosaga episodes I II and III
Front Mission 4
Grandia III
Metal Saga
Wild Arms 4

I /would/ put Grandia II on the list, but it really belongs on the dreamcast with skies of Arcadia. PS2 just had too much good stuff. It was sadly lacking in the Morrowind/KOTOR department, but I needed SOME excuse to buy an Xbox.

Either Naval Ops Warship Gunner, Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 3, or Front Mission 4. Only 2 of those are on the list sadly.

I haven't played enough of the games since I just bought one a year a go, but my favourite so far is Shadow of the Colossus.

I can't believe how much I missed out on. The PS2 will probably never be beaten with so many interesting games as these. Bloody Oath! It's going to take me forever to get through them all.

Thanks for the thread, I'm writing down a lot of the answers.

So the PS2 has finally retired huh? Sorta makes me sad really. I still remember the day when I heard the PS1 retired. :(

OT: Shadow of the Colossus. No contest. (Well except maybe with ICO and Snake Eater)

That game does almost everything right. It has a compelling story and atmosphere, the fights with the colossi were grand and epic, and the soundtrack was amazing.

The game was nothing short of fantastic.

If the question was which you think is the best game I might have voted MGS3 but since you asked for favorite I voted SH2

Snake Eater hands down, loved that game to death, still do!

honorable mention would be Dragon Quest VIII, since that's the second RPG I've ever considered "epic" I'm replaying it right now, and I'm already 60 hours in and with so much left to do and enjoying every second of it

With a lack of Red Faction (the first not the inferior second) then Ratchet and Clank 3 is a brilliant game!

I'll go with Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones.
I replayed this game about two dozen times, and I loved every second. The gameplay was top notch, and in my opinion so were the writing and acting; also, the Dark Prince is one of my favourite characters of all time, in both behaviour and design. If I ever get a gaming tattoo, it'll be the daggertail.

I'm gonna have to say San Andreas it's tough but that's just a great game I really enjoyed it and I wish that Rockstar would release Grand Theft Auto HD Collection with some online multilayer now that would just be pure awesome.

Resident Evil: Outbreak File 2

That game had better co-op than the newer RE games, because the goal was to get not die rather than kill everything in sight. You could also aim and move at the same time.

It would be so great if it were ported to a current console.

Of those listed, Soul Calibur 3. But, I only owned about five titles on the whole thing. My favourite would have been Primal, but Okami bears special mention.

Persona 3 FES with runner up Odin sphere. Neither are on the list.
Persona 3 is my 2nd favorite PS2 game so its omission is definitely unwarranted. Based on P4's coming of age, although I think it's a lesser game, it should've been included also.

I can't vote because Persona 4 isn't on the list. Still playing that game today, more engaging than anything I've played today.

I picked ICO, because it was either that or Shadow of the Colossus, and the latter is already winning the poll so...

Think I might be one of the few, but really I was rather disappointed with the PS2. Perhaps it came from having one of the original release PS2s and having to wait well over a year before there really being anything that interested me to play on it. As I recall the first 2 plus years of owning it It got used more as a DVD player than a game console. That was the front end of its cycle. After I started seeing games released, yeah Xenosaga, FFX, FFXII, SSX, Silent hill 2%3 (though I voted for 4 despite playing it on xbox) Gran turismo, Manhunt, few others here and there. Toward the end of its cycle, I ended up gravitating to xbox, then to 360 with much greater degree of enjoyment.

So personally the PS2 was nothing gaming wise compared to what the PS1 was. Honestly With a few exceptions I practically jumped from PS1 to Xbox (or perhaps was just distracted by MMOs during that period) So I never really got the undying adoration for the PS2. It was a solid system yes, but far from impressive.
