Because I am a CoD fanboy, CoD. Its looking promising, and so far there is no way it won't be at the very least Passable.

I would have said Brink, but I haven't seen enough of it yet. My wiener (which makes most of my life decisions) says "meh"

Edit: I wasn't gonna give my two cents on Reach, because the single player is looking extremely bland, and the multiplayer is not my cup of Crack; But if Halo 3 did one thing right, it was Forge and custom game modes. And I can see myself sitting in front of the TV making floating maps shaped like Dongs for hours on end. In other words...

Deus Ex Human Revolution... that is all...
He's talking about the Fall Flood, not the Post-Fall Finish.
Well I don't care about anything in the fall flood...
Well, Deus Ex: Human Revolution comes out in 2011.
I realize this but it is literally the only game I'm looking forward to in the near future...

I am not a big fan of Call of Duty or Halo, so I will probably skip those.

But Brink looks amazing. It is an FPS, but it also includes free running elements and a massive list of customization options.

I've given up getting my hopes up about upcoming games, too many failures. I just have a long list of "games to look out for" and depending on critical and fan response I'll know whether to bother with it.

Upcoming shooters on my watch list
PC
-Medal of Honor Redux
-Fall of Duty: New Vegas (is it a "shooter" though?)
-Callout: Black Ops
-TRON 2: Evolution
-Crysis 2
-Portal 2 (Well it's a First Person "something")
-Max Payne 3
-Dead Space 2
-Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad
-Bulletstorm
-XCOM
-Red Faction: Armageddon
-Brink
-Homefront
-FEAR 3
-Hunted: Demon's Forge
-RAGE
-Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

Xbox 360
-Halo Reach
-Gears of War 3
(Seriously Microsoft, you can do better than this)

Playstation 3
-Vanquish (if no PC release)
-Agent
-Killzone 3
-Resistance 3
-(Uncharted 3)
-Bodycount (If no PC release)

Portal isn't an FPS though, it is a puzzle game, an FPS focuses around combat.
"First-person shooter (FPS) is a video game genre which centers the gameplay around gun and projectile weapon-based combat through the first person perspective; i.e., the player experiences the action through the eyes of a protagonist." -Wikipedia

A first-person shooter needs one element: for the perspective to be out of the protagonist's eyes.

Portal is a FPS, here's a video to prove it.

And the game has the one necessary trait, that the perspective is from the main character, Chell.

While just around every single FPS is an action game doesn't mean FPS HAVE to be an action game.

However, Portal can be classifies as a puzzle game and a FPS.

Besides, you can state Portal is an action game - there are plenty of dangers and gunfires happening in the game.

Nothing really interests me. I've stopped caring for Call of Duty and a Treyarch title in the series isn't going to change that.

Never liked Medal of Honor and this one just looks like it's jumping on the MW bandwagon, with dull results.

As for Halo: Reach, it feels like they're trying to apply new FPS mechanics to an engine which felt old and arcady at launch and isn't going to change now, at least not without some major hiccups.

Brink might be ok...Maybe. I'll have to wait for reviews. I've heard they've made some pretty stupid changes since was we saw a year or so ago, but then again I haven't been keeping up it's development.

Honestly the only FPS I can think of that I'm looking forward to in the next 12 months is Bulletstorm, even if half the reason is for the immortal Shakespearean line "YOU SCARED THE DICK OFF ME!" Oh, and obviously Portal 2 if it counts.

Black Ops for me baby. Cold War setting, clandestine denied operations, zombies, new customizable multiplayer features, sweet guns, spy cams, four play co-op, an SR-71 mission, the possibility of Space Race related missions, and the return of one of the most badass characters ever: Reznov from World at War...how could an extremely loyal CoD fan possibly pass up something like this? This is a great package for $60. I'll probably also get Medal of Honor as well for my 21st birthday, but I've been anxiously awaiting Black Ops for months now. Why must I wait so long for it?! I must have it now!

Brink looks like it's coming along nicely. Nothing I've seen so far has turned me off of it, so it couldn't hurt to give it a go.

Definitely going to get Amnesia: The Dark Descent on the 8th as well.

In other non-FPS related news, Vanquish lets you boost-slide around on your knees and sports a God Hard mode.
Search your heart, you know this is going to be awesome.

Reach, easily. I've long been a fan of the Halo series (the first Halo game on PC was what got me into gaming in the first place), it's the soonest release (two more weeks!), and it's way more packed with features than the other games coming out, with Forge World, custom Firefight modes, etc.

Hummm...Upcoming soon will probably go to Black Ops. As for future releases, I think RAGE looks pretty badass. id has always been a favorite developer of mine.

Bulletstorm, the spiritual successor to UT (i hope at least). Of the ones on your list, brink seems the most promising. But definitely bulletstorm.

Not a FPS fan, but you seem to have forgotten New Vegas. I won't be playing any of them, though. Even if my Xbox didn't break, I just hate the perspective in video games.

To be honest, I wasn't bothered too much about this topic enough to research and produce a full essay on it, but if you were describing to someone about Portal, you would not say it is an FPS, ever. It probably isn't even classed as an FPS. There is no weapons for the player to use and the portal gun doesn't really count as one. The enemy's using weapons is irrelevant anyway so I don't see why anyone would classify it as an FPS.
