Was this really necessary? I mean, as far as endings go, the old one was pretty ambiguous.
I suppose this makes it seem less like a retcon.

Also, I was really looking forward to running around city 17 or anywhere outside, with the portal gun.
That doesn't look like what Valve have planned though.
What if Chell became a resistance fighter in Portal 2? Maybe make some events happen that end up helping out Gordon. Maybe they can even meet, and have a silent protagonist stare-off.
I was hoping that the Portal gun would be a part of HL2:EP3... But if I had to guess, I'd say that that isn't going to happen now. It could have been epic, but perhaps the mysterious Aperture technology which we should be finding in Episode 3 will be at least as interesting.

Besides, I don't think a Gordon-Chell team could ever be better than the Gordon-Alyx team, as pretentious and fanboyish as that sounds. Maybe if Alyx got the portal gun and you could play co-op with her and Gordon...

I've played this one mod that's supposed to be a fan-sequel to Portal; it takes place outdoors, and the framerate was so poor it was completely unplayable, because it had to try to render the entire wide-open environment through both portals plus the regular view. Unless Valve makes some serious efficiency improvements to their engine, this sort of thing isn't going to be doable.
Come on, Valve is great at using the technology they do have to great effect. I'm not actually asking for a lot, especially considering you can effectively play the Half-Life 2 maps by putting them in the Portal map folder. Just look at this:

Wouldn't an official Portal game set outside beat anything fans can do?

Aside from the voice saying something and dragging you away, what's new really? If I recall it's more or less the same ending.

The game was fine the way it was, this is just so they have an excuse for an unneeded sequel no doubt. *cough*Bioshock 2*cough*

played through the entire game again today, got the transmission received achievement and got to see the new ending.

getting dragged away by a (british? some people say his accent is austrian) robot who is associated with Aperture Science ("party submission position") is interesting, if only because he'd be the first moving Aperture Science robot we've encountered. Ooo, moving things we have to avoid?

They're wasting all this time on freaking sideprojects and as much as I loved Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, portal and Team Fortress... I really just wish they'd focus on releasing Episode 3...
There is no Episode 3.

When Eli died at the end of Episode 2, it is revealed that actually the whole universe was being maintained by the power of his imagination. This is confirmed because when Eli died the game fades to black because the entire universe was destroyed.

Or not ;)

I can't tell what that voice is saying. Could someone tell me?
I think it's "Thank you for assuming the party position."

Or something along those lines. The 'Party position' when you 'escaped' the fire?
Yep thats it, which ties in with the new achievement of "party position".

So Portal just got retconned.
Retcon?
You know the song at the end of the game? You know what it's called?

This is all over the youtube comments, but someone there said he used the "impulse 101" code to get a rocket launcher, thus speeding up the final battle so he could get his video out sooner, a side-effect of this is that it displays the HL2 HUD.

Also why is everyone saying the end is different? As I recall, after landing it used to fade to black, all that means is that in the original ending, Chell lost consciousness before the android showed up. You didn't know what happened afterwards. Though most probably assumed she had died, like I did. I was always hoping I was wrong. Woohoo.

Good point, though it is safe to assume that applies to both Chell and GLaDOS now. Whereas before it was just GLaDOS taunting you, that doesn't mean they planned it this way, but it doesn't mean they didn't either. Now we just have proof she's alive.

:Darth Vader: NEeeeeOOOOOOOOOOO!

the advisor that killed him sucked out his brain. and when eli sees the transmission from Judith and says he's going after her, kliner says it would be bad if they caught Mossman, because she knew about certain things, but it would be worse if they caught Eli because he knew most everything about the entire resistance.

so now the remaining forces of the combine know everything about the resistance. And, that they have the contact code for the combine overworld.

Because Episode three is going to involve the Borealis and Aperture Science, they probably want another game to cram as much backstory information as they can into the series before they try putting us through that part of EP. 3.

That struck me too. It seems more like someone with a lot of time on their hands just put together a mod on HL2 that replicated the end of Portal and then added that. It could be done, HL2 is notorious for the freedom to create mods for it.

Jesus, just try making the 360 players rage.
The console players can eat shit. They get so much special treatment for every other game out there (not to mention not having to deal with this DRM bullshit). It's good to see Valve keeps true to their roots and does something that makes it worthwhile to still be a PC gamer.
Or, you know, some of us don't have great computers and opted to get it for 360 instead. Like me. So, you know, PC players can eat shit. :) Oh wait, they already are.

Oh for shits' sake.

I know it's easier to make money with sequels than by constantly creating new IP's, but of all the great games that didn't need, or shouldn't have had, a sequel, Portal was at the very top of the list.

I think I know what GLaDoS' plan is: use her robots to DESTROY ALL CAKE!
That way we'll never get our party-... with cake.

Perhaps- is that creepy robot voice Companion Cube revived? He plans to take revenge for you murdering him!
GLaDoS YOU *****! You took my only friend! And you indoctrinated him! DAMN YOU, APERTURE SCIENCE!!!

One thing though, keep in mind the party position is laying down waiting for people to come and kill you.. (Well, that's what GLaDoS wants you to do)

Ooh, either a sequel is coming or they are celebrating the beginning of April a month early. This means I have to get my greasy palms on the original game, pronto! Before the new one comes out!

Quite possibly a military android, momentarily re purposed...

Also, am I the only one who got 'Mac text-to-speech' from the voice? Seriously, it sounds like AUTO from Wall-E, and I think they used Mac for it.
