PSN Down Worldwide; Is Anonymous to Blame?

I doubt Anonymous did this. they have this sense of honor, despite how messed up they can be... besides, Anonymous is smart enough to know that doing something like this would turn many of people who either supported them or were neutral (myself, for example) against them.

Whatever it is, hopefully the problem will be resolved soon... but if it IS Anonymous, c'mon guys, teh fuck?

But like I said, I doubt Anonymous would target the innocent consumer when their beef lies with Sony. as long as PSN is restored and it doesn't affect anyone's accounts in any adverse way (I want all my trophies, DLC, friends, money, etc. to still be there), I have no problem. Still prefer this to having to pay each month only to Red Ring (or Yellow Light or whatever the hell it is now) 5 months in.

It's not Anonymous - Anonymous says so, and a bunch of 14 year-old anonymous trolls out for lulz are entirely trustworthy when they say it isn't them - because you can be damn sure if it WAS, they'd have made everyone know about how they pwned Sony by now.

Why did this have to happen on spring break? I spend the first half being sick, and the second half unable to play ps3.

Well, this just goes to show you that free things never work as well as things you pay for.
In that case, let's start paying for air, must be better then. *Gets a can of Perri-Air*
Free, man-made things.
I was actually kidding, but paying for something doesn't always make it better. Like games, plenty of shitacular games out there that weren't free, they cost money. Not to mention the number of Xbox consoles that got the RROD, those weren't free either.

Free != shit, expensive != good. It's all subjective.

One of the good things about Anonymous, until an actual reason or culprit is found, they are always good for blaming problems on.

Maybe they're just looking for someone to blame because their shoddy service went down o_O

Easier to blame others than yourself.
This.

Anon is top notch when it comes to claiming responsibility. If it was them I don't doubt they would have said something by now.
Also they like to tell the public what they are going to do ahead of time.

Guys! Don't you get it? Its not Anon!

IT'S VALVE!

I mean, how many PS3 users got Portal 2, couldn't log into PSN, and then went on to activate their PC copy, saw the deals on Steam, and went on an impulse shopping spree?

Somewhere, Gabe is going, "ALL YOUR BASES ARE BELONG TO US!"

I can hold out a few days. But then, I'm going to need some kind of connection. Portal 2 arrives soon...

As Mr Funk says, if it is an outside agency it's an offshoot of Anon and not the "main" part.

Also, if Anon (or an offshoot) had been responsible they'd stake a claim. As susceptible as the PSN supposedly is to interference it's still a godamn huge achievement to bring it down worldwide.

Strikes me that it's more likely Sony had a major fuck up all on their ownsome and conveniently have an outside party who they can put some of the blame on, rather than accept it themselves. Mitigates the outrage if you can suggest the blame falls somewhere else.

If you've tried to log into PSN since last night, you may have noticed that you can't log into PSN. The service is down in North America, Asia and Europe alike, which is probably a bit of a headache for people hoping to play Portal 2 online with friends.

Been trying all day. All I wanted is to take my little robot and fly at the speed of sound. Is that really so much to ask? Apparently, if a group of people on there computers protesting something is concerned, yes. Yes it is.

Calumon: Awww, but Jack let's me play Portal! This is mean... : (
See? Xbox is better Jack. Calumon, you need to try to get Jack to switch bro.

Zero: I like the DS myself.

EDIT 2: Also, let's just point out the fact that you're getting angry over a service they provide for free. If someone were to give you free food and it wasn't that good, would you complain? If not, why would you complain about this? It's free. They're giving it to you. They don't have to make it free, they could charge you money. So just be glad it's free.
Unfortunately, it doesnt quite work like that. That implies you got the food completely for free, without any charge before. But when you buy a PS3, PSN is advertised as a WORKING feature, and as part of the package, which makes it not so free. The correct example would be: "Buy this flatscreen HDTV and DVD player together for 400 euros!". If the DVD player didnt work, you would be pissed off, and right fully so.

Although I have to admit this whole story is VERY amusing. Its funny to see 360 users laugh about this while microsoft blocks off free content because they want too charge for it, or PC gamers smugly announce they are going to play Portal 2 when suddenly there internet stops working for an hour and steam offline mode refuses to work, or steam goes down, or HATS.
However, it's technically an extra. If you did not already have high-speed, it wouldn't work, now would it?
The ability to play online is NOT an extra! It's one of the main reasons for buying a console.

Honestly, I will laugh so hard if this turns out to be a double-flip-inverted-aerial-triple-backstab from Gabe Newell.

GLaDOS: "It seems that your communication service is unable to start up properly. What a shame. I can tell, by its corrupted data-import modules and constant attempts at breaking my sxr-code in my dual-neuro-cell core where I am containing the processors for it to preform the boot-up process, that it's very reluctant to work with you at this time. In the mean time, I will be more than glad to help you in your start up process..."

If this is the result of an attack, it would be odd considering that Anonymous publicly announced that it would cease attacks affecting PlayStation customers [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109056-Anonymous-Halts-Sony-Attacks-Affecting-PSN-Users] more than a week ago. However, that doesn't mean that a similar group - or a splinter branch of Anonymous - couldn't be doing the same in its absence.
I think you're giving Anon too much credit here, they're not an organized group. They're not really a group at all. Each person can act autonomously from the others and there's a chance that either people just haven't got message stating that the attacks have stopped or are just continuing "for the lulz" or simply "for great justice". There are no members and there is no structure, anon is anyone and everyone. So, you cannot have a splinter group from them because every individual person acts as just that: an individual person.

Basically, the only reason that some of them are continuing the attacks is down to the individual, maybe they're a fan of the Xbox or they're just bored. It's hard to know exactly, I suppose you could boil it down to just plain old trolling.

Watch Sony point the finger at Anonymous, only to get Anonymous to reply with some video (by the way, entities cannot post videoes, therefore anonymous is a guerilla warfare issue, not entity) about how they "are being targeted by Sony" and all this crap. It's enough to make someone wonder if the whole Hotz/Anonymous thing was all a big conspiracy from the very beginning. Yeah I said it! Anonymous is the new Illuminati! (humor down to tubes)
