Not any of those games made any revolutionary impact on the gaming industry whatsoever.

This isn't a list of INNOVATIVE games, it's a list of INFLUENTIAL games. You'd be surprised how rare it is for the two to cross.

I mean, really. Starcraft is bread-and-butter RTS with the WH40k story. Polished to hell and back, but there it is. Half Life... I mean, really, Half Life wasn't very innovative at all except in narrative style. Final Fantasy? Please, it's a dumbed down version of DnD...

World of Warcraft may not have been innovative, but it DID bring MMOs to an impossibly larger market and turn them into the bajillion-dollar industry-within-an-industry that they are today.
The topic of the poll is "Which game has changed gaming the most?" so I do believe it slides a little more into the 'innovative' spectrum :)

I do agree that WoW has introduced entire armadas of new people into gaming and it has definitely contributed its share, but I doubt the landscape would be radically different without it. There simply would have been another game to satisfy the fantasy RPG demand eventually.

However, imagine if Doom or Half Life hadn't existed. What if we would have never invented the FPS genre? So many games have been borrowing gameplay elements and ideas from them ever since their birth and I don't how many of the current titles would exist if they hadn't been created.

Anyhoo, I think the writers of the article were desperately trying to look for new innovations that aren't two decades old and the result is a general meh.

Harvest Moon for 2 reasons. The first being Harvest Moon Back to Nature is one of my favourite games of all time, and secondly there was no game like it before, it was the first of a kind where as all the other games had a similar game before them.

Ok I took the time to read the article and decide that it was complete nonsense. It has Pikmin as an influential RTS, Dune 2 came out 10 years before it. The list uses Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation Vs Zeon as the influential Mecha game even though it came out 12 years after the first Mechwarrior game. I could go through the list and making examples for each one. The list only makes sense if you limit it to the most influential Japanese console games of the last 10 years.

None of those games had a big impact on gaming.

The closest if I have to pick one would be maybe Animal Crossing, but really it was just a part of a new wave of casual games.

I generally expected Half Life, Star Craft, Halo, an early MMO, to be in that list. Games that did actual have an impact on gaming (non-meat head heros, balanced races, regen shields and health)
Pretty much this, although I'd say Harvest Moon as I think that's the one that's been around the longest.

What Jesus said, Fable is probably the least influential game ever.

As many others before me have mentioned, I fail to see how any of these titles can be considered "influential".

But if I had to choose between those, I think Harvest Moon was the most influential. Primarily beacuse I suspect it inspired the creators of FarmVille, thus launching another casual gaming craze.

I think the real question of the day is what would you have to take to think any of those games was influential?

seriously. None of them.

A copy of Pikmin 2 is still worth more than pretty much anything on this list. I believe that indicates some testament to it's popularity and influence.

I'm going to say Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing. Casual in appearance with a crazy amount of depth. I think these games really took fetch quests and grind to a whole new level. It isn't just about grinding levels anymore, it's now about making the grind the game and still managing to make it addictive and fun.

None of the above, at least in my world. But from an external point of view I would guess that Harvest Moon/Pikmin... because they're way different than any other game I've seen/played even though I don't like them I can admit they're a step in a different direction thus a "change" in gaming.

Needs an option 'none of the above'. If I MUST choose, I guess Animal Crossing, for its real time progression even if the console was not playing the game.
I agree with this guy... But games did that before Animal Crossing... Or maybe they didn't, I don't actually know how old Animal Crossing is. The only Version I know of was the DS one... and that sure isn't that old.

None of these games have had an impact on gaming, or at least not much of one. Half of the list I haven't even heard of before.
The only real impact I can think of would be pikmin, and that's only because freaking OLIMAR ate up a slot in Brawl that could've been used for a much more awesome character.
