If Batman bin Superman invented Windows he would have been. No, i don`t feel wrong. At all.
Who said anything about Superman?

It's Suparman, damnit. Read my posts more carefully then maybe you wouldn't be SO WRONG.
I thought you made a typo. In any case, Batman bin Superman is still more goofy sounding and it still makes no difference in your example.

Luckiest.
Child.
Ever.
I'm so jealous.
Yeah, the bullying as a kid and the weird looks whenever he does anything official (job appliactions, legal documents, passport control, bank accounts, etc.) for the rest of his life is really gonna be a whale of a time.

Why make his first name Dovahkiin?
It was just to name the kid it. Not necessarily the first name. You could have made any of his middle names it..

But now, he is Dovahkiin.
Thanks alot, mom and dad.
Honestly, why the hell would he be made fun of?
As far as things go it's pretty easy to take Dovahkiin as some non-American name. I think people are blowing it way out of proportion with the bullying thing.
Personally, awesome name. Having the same cookie cutter name that blends in is boring.

I wonder what "Dovahkiin" would shorten out to.

My guess is "Keen."
My money is on "Dova", "Dave", or "David" for some reason.
I'm excited for the interview with an 18 year old Dovahkiin who is a painter or something.

Wait, what is with the bully posts? Why would he be bullied?

By the time he gets to kindergarden, 4-5 years will have passed. 4-5 year olds don't play Skyrim and they'll think it's a Serbian name or something. "Dovahkiin" is exotic, but it isn't something like naming your kid "Megatron" or "Darth Vader".

When he gets to Elementary school, kids still won't be playing Skyrim. I doubt people in grades 2-6 would play an old RPG they'll probably never have heard of.

When he gets to Highschool, Skyrim will be so far behind him that only a few hardcore RPG enthusiasts/nerds will give him a wink or a nudge and talk about how cool it is. While everyone else just knows him as "That kid who sounds like he's from Serbia". I don't see any of the logic you guys are presenting, he's not going to be bullied at all.

Furthermore, people criticizing the parents think they're doing this for the free swag. They're not, they're probably doing it because they're diehard fans.

It's no different than having a video game themed wedding or investing geek culture into any other part of your life. Although this is a bit extreme.
That. People are overreacting IMO.

My guess is 18 years of being bullied.
Kids bully people no matter what. If it wasn't his name it'd be another of his features, or something completely made up. Or "gay". Yeah it'll probably just be "gay"...sigh...
Well, no. And if they were to then go for something, generic stuff is easy to come back too. Your first name being Dohvakiin means you need something on the other person (and that'll probably end up being a lot of "other persons" you need something on).

Some people really shouldn't be allowed to have children.
But hell at least there was a Johnny Cash reference in the article.

This can't be worse then that kid who was named after where he was conceived.

I just thought of something. How is anyone supposed to guess the kids name when hearing "Dovahkiin"? And it doesn't help if you say that it means "Dragonborn" because that's also gender neutral.

On the other hand. If the kid doesn't give his parents a high-five when he finds out why he has that name, someone be needing a smack over the head.

This is one of the reasons that hardcore gamers without the prerequisite amount of common sense should think twice about getting children. This is after all a name the kid will carry with him for the rest of his life, for better or worse. Once the kid turns 18 and goes to college and makes something of himself, he will have to live with the fact his parents named him after a video game. What kind of opinion will he have of his parents then? And for what, saving 50 bucks every two years? They should get a name change to Dovahkiin themselves if they want it so badly.

That said, Dovahkiin isn't that much more... exotic... than the name of their daughter. Kyari? Kyari Kellermeyer?

Not to mention, its not a bad sounding name <.<

The people here saying "he is gonna get bullied" are part of the why people get bullied problem.

Well I guess it's better than being named Cloud or Sephiroth. Even then though, they could train him in the art of fighting and self defense so if anyone decides to pick on him, he would kick their ass.

That is just your (wrong) opinion and has no basis whatsoever in reality.
Unless you want to be a politician or a public person your name does not matter.
What engineer will you hire: Dovahkiin; nice character, phd or Bob; sub par education and depressed.

I don't think anyone would mess with a child who's name meant "Dragonborn"! I wouldn't, I'd befriend them for when the rapture came.
