Yeah, so what does that mean? If there's a gay couple in a village where exactly is the line where they become 'token just to show they exist'. Why aren't they just there because they are there? At what point are they not ok to be there?

So, according to Bethesda, they don't want to make it a big deal in the news. They just want it to exist to make the role-playing better.

I think it'd be good if a game showed some realism in these medieval - fantasy settings.
Gay/Taboo relationships having to be kept hush hush. Not in public ect..
Would add a nice degree of immersion.
Or at least the occasional NPC being disgusted with you.

There is no evidence that anyone in the setting is against it or that its taboo in tamriel.

A character or two characters that are gay for no real purpose would serve no purpose. They've got to be fleshed out. What I think lack was talking about was about having an annoyingly camp gay couple with no other qualities other than "we're so marvelously gay for each other!" I actually think that could be twisted and used in a clever way by giving these characters real depth (a back story, perhaps they're not really gay, or perhaps they're not gay for each other but have no choice; i.e., a façade) but I won't go into that because I'm not good at making up deep characterization.

Well, yeah, it's actually pretty important to a lot of people that this becomes an option. I would be sorely cheesed off if I could any marry in straight relationships.

I agree with you that a character should have more personality than 'they're gay', and I agree that i doubt that will be the case in this game. If that's what you actually meant then that's all i wanted to know. You should have posted that instead of your original post. Augh, dang it. Now I'm getting the wrong impression, and getting excited. It'll probably just be what pretty much amounts to an npc companion with extra dialogue that you can bring gifts, but the phrasing makes it sounds like it could be much more, like, where you'd have cool uses for spouses where you could use their position in society to advance in court, or marry someone so could ask your father-in-law for favours, or cool anti-heroic manipulative stuff.

I want to be able to play an evil fantasy politician damnit!
