So ... is this a yes on the tentacle bear issue [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107723-Skyrim-Will-Feature-Tentacle-Bears-Maybe], Bethesda? Any fantasy land can have something mundane like a bear killing woolly mammoths, but a tentacle bear? That's something you just won't find anywhere! Well, maybe Japan.
Don't you think it's a little early to be making Japan jokes?

Hopefully it will be more like Shivering isles than Cyrodiil. Cyrodiil was pretty and all but is was just too...real. Shivering Isles and Morrowind on the other hand felt much more unique.

Well this is exactly what they need to do. With Oblivion they took what the felt was 'wrong' in Morrowind and really over compensated on it, leaving a lot of Morrowind fans unhappy. They need to take a few steps back and make everyone happy, much like they did with Fallout 3.
I think "wrong" is too harsh a term, I don't think they ever viewed Vvardenfell's exotic setting as wrong they just wanted to do something more traditional with TES IV. Many people didn't like TES III's exotic setting and this influenced the creation of the Bloodmoon expansion which was closer to traditional fantasy. (TES IV generated the opposite complaint and we got Shivering Isles.)

I would agree that many of the changes they made went too far in the other direction - it sounds like Skyrim will be combining a lot of lessons learned from TES III and IV (and FO3) which should strike an excellent balance. :)

to be fair, morrowind had some invisible walls too, but these were usually out in the middle of the ocean where no one went anyway
Really? I thought ocean regions were continuously generated as you swam out.

Lets hope that means it won't be as boring as morrowind. (Yes I found Morrowind boring)
Oh I doubt you are alone in finding it that way. I haven't heard anyone call it fast at least.

And I really hope there's a tentacle bear.

While I loved Oblivion, I love that they're bringing in some of the wierd crap from Morrorwind. I never played Morrowind, but from what I've seen it gave me a slight touch of regret over going with a PS2 instead of an Xbox.
Most modern day PCs could play it easily. Take a look and you might see it on sale sometime.

Bethesda are truly a company that can identify what worked and what didn't. This is one of the only games that I trust will be spectacular.

Wonderful news. Fight the "standard fantasy" abomination. I'm hardly convinced that some WRPGS deserve the classification "High Fantasy" so i'm hoping for nutty impossible architecture and interesting enemies. Not just one or two dragons thrown in to make it fantasy!

People have been making jokes like that about Japan for years. When people are doing it now, it's because they were doing it a long time before the earthquake and because they're not making a joke about it.

Good. Not that this is news to me though, but anyways...in my early days of Morrowind, before I became the extreme, borderline fanatic fan I am now, I remebred being like "Wow...its like im in the medival age of an alien planet". Already gone through the Skyrim "demo" (Bloodmoon Expansion) though so I know of some bits to expect.

I still can't figure out how people are honestly interpreting that picture as a 'tentacle bear'. It's clearly a bear standing behind a fallen mammoth.

Though a tentacle bear would be interesting I suppose; kind of annoying I imagine.

And don't forget to add Morrowind's expansion Bloodmoon, that was the most epic experience I've ever had with a TES game :)

It?s funny, just yesterday I was saying to my friend that the major shortcoming of oblivion (other than the awful leveling system) was its departure from the ?Normal? oddity of the elder scrolls games.
