Good going, Sony.

Your system is about as stable and secure as... something instable and insecure.
a l4d witch who's self conscious about her nails.

Well. This is...bad.

And with the theft of personal info, this hurtles even further outside of anon's usual MO. I'm personally betting on it being a completely unrelated group.

Sony need to get moving. Now faster than ever. People need to be able to get to their accounts and change those passwords, otherwise a load of customers could get scammed and people will, justified or not, hold Sony accountable. Which to a certain extent it is. A team of hackers should not be able to completely bring down a multinational companies most important online service, let alone to be able to take ALL the personal data involved in said service.

People have entrusted this data to Sony, under the promise that it was safe. Today that trust has been violated, and sony should take some responsibility for it.

Incompetence is the word to describe this, that being completely unsecured network with very little support because they offered if for free for a good while and aren't made of money. Oh how I love my Microsoft owned company, that is more secure and has better help. Now lets watch some PS3 fanboys scream at me while he cries over his new timeshare in Alaska.
If it was "completely unsecured" this would have been done years ago. Way to show how big of a clown you really are.
OH, and the PS3 fanboy takes the first hit and is reported for trolling and insulting another member of the boards.

Also good jobs taking hyperbole seriously you sir must be a riot to hang out with

in all honesty, fuck, thank god i only buy DLC with PSN Cards i get at gamestop.

the more i think about this, the more i wonder if it really is anon, i think some internet criminals took advantage of the previous anon hack and brought down PSN to cover their tracks and make it look like an attack from Anon, in which case i hope anon goes fucking ballistic on those fucking crooks.

"certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised"

that's Phony's take, it 'believes' that information 'may' have been compromised. This means that they don't know, and in legalese, they don't know

So was it just psn north american details or worldwide accounts?, currency makes a big difference to the situation.

I am sensing much panic and anger. May I introduce some rampant paranoia into this thread now?

I find it funny that people are blaming Sony for having bad security when they most likely have NO IDEA what the security was actually like and how hard it was for the hackers.
That sounds like something the hacker would say. "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW FRUSTRATING IS WAS FOR ME TO HACK THIS THING ONLY FOR PEOPLE TO THEN TURN TO ME AND SAY 'WELL THAT MUST HAVE BEEN EASY THEN?'.

Wait a minute, I dont get you. Your smart enough to realize that they dont know WHAT or HOW it was leaked but then you believe that sony has no responsibility in this?

So you do realize there is NO proof whatsoever that ANYTHING got out but sony is spinning the story to make people freak against the hackers and the PS3 crackers. It dosent take 6 days to figure out something was downloaded. If it does then thats just plain incompetence from a major corporation. So why should sony go free on this? That they had no responsibility in not only how easy it must have been to access their network but how they didnt do anything to stop the compromise of integral data? Sounds rather fishy to me that you would just "let" someone go after personal files... or maybe he didnt go after them?
I don't lock the deadbolt on my house at night. If someone breaks in and steals stuff am I charged with the theft? Yes Sony had shitty security, but we knew they did, and we used their system anyway. They aren't to blame because no, it's not a logical fallacy to say you shouldn't have given them your personal info, and willingly using a door with no way to lock it is inviting your house to get broken into.
Sony is to blame, not for the hacking, but for waiting 6 days to tell us our shit may be compromised. They are guilty of withholding information for 6 days, not for criminal neglect of their system. The hacker is 100% a douche bag who should be strung up by the neck for ruining everyone's happy time online.
Thank you for foaming at the mouth and proving my point. Its not your fault if you get robbed because your door wasent locked. It IS your fault if you are a bank who is storing SOMEONE ELSES money and gets robbed but dosent close the vault door on them while they are robbing it, or lock the front gates when they catch them, or has any security guards watch the vault of OTHER PEOPLES MONEY.

You tell me if your bank got robbed and all your money is gone now because the bank failed to follow standard protocol on robberies and hit the panic button when it happened would you blame them? It all could have been avoided if they did their job but the bank failed and now its all gone.

Stringing someone by their neck for something like this which is not only not confirmed in any way shape or form is just what we like to call witch hunts. And quite frankly being burned for being suspected of being a witch, is just plain wrong.

Not really, no. I'm anon and I'm an insurance broker. I'm a suit. A stuffed shirt. About as far from being a hipster as humanly possible. The other anons I know of are as radically diverse a group as can be imagined. But they're not the ones who draw attention. This is not an accident. Mark my words, there are plenty of "real" hackers within anon. But having an obvious media presence of hyperactive teen suicide skiddies makes for wonderful cover when you're really planning something. Are the things done criminal? Occasionally. (I of course have NOTHING to do with any malfeasance... As far as you know.) But any investigations into such are hobbled by having to separate out those with real skill from those just being loud and obnoxious. It turns any criminal investigation into a game of where's waldo.

The point being, there's more going on within anon than even most anons are aware of. So was this an Anonymous hack? Dunno. It has the skill, but lacks the style, so far. It remains to be seen what will be done with the data.
Considering how nebulous you try to make it sound, you also are trying to properly define it. Maybe you're just being meta and applying that whole Anon cover to confuse people.

And it is kind of obvious that being a hipster negates not being a hipster, which is what they are.

Sony, you fucked up.

You fucked up bad.

I can imagine their reaction to all this, though.
"Huh, looks like someone's trying to enter our mainframe. Want to do something about that, Jeff?"
"Eh, what's the worst that could happen?"

Also, Sony said:

"we believe that an unauthorized person"

Person, as in singular.

I am sure it is not anon.

Now, it may be somone who would be conisdred part of Anon acting alone, it is little more than a mob of unrelated people working together.

Gonna say what I heard from the ol' grapevine: Apparently, the hacker (or hackers as the case may be) didn't upgrade their firmware (or system or something) then modded it to be recognized as an developer console, which meant they had access to 'false' PSN money, which normally is used to test DLC. The hacker (or hackers) managed to find a way to transfer the 'fake' PSN money to their account as normal PSN money and used it to get free downloaded games and DLC or whatnot.
....WHAT.

Fucking bastards, that's all hackers are. Grow the fuck up and get jobs. EARN your own damn money. Buy games like the rest of us.

It makes me sick to know there are gamers happy to pirate games/DLC, etc, rather than.. Y'know.. SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPERS THAT WORKED MONTHS/YEARS OF THEIR LIVES TO GIVE YOU THE BEST GAME THEY CAN POSSIBLY CREATE.

Fuck you all..

Yes, it was Sony who put PSN down and stole all your credit card information. They basically gave the info away, right?

No they didn't, it got HACKED, I.E gotten through illegitimate means.. Sony can't do anything about it, and that's why PSN is down and they're designing a new network now.

Is it 'Sony stole your credit card information'? No. It's 'Hackers stole your credit card information'.

Besides, if you do believe it's Sony's fault, you're the one who gave them the credit card information in the first place.. (yes I know that's a fallacy but think about it :p)
I completely know its the hackers fault but its Sonys gaming online service, you believe it would be secure.

Also I was complaining that they had taken a week to tell people that there information may have been stolen, why did they take this F'ing long? They should have apoligised, explained and admitted their faults and their plans from the start, not hide them like a small boy whos trying to lie to his parents.

They've been down for about a week, and the entire userbase's private information may have been stolen? Bravo, Sony, bravo. Maybe you should have spent more money in your database security instead of stupid, condescending ads.

Sony are incompetents.
For not being 100% hack-proof?
Yeah.

For being unable to protect private information entrusted upon them.
Are you so naive to believe that Microsoft or any website taking your personal information on the web are 100% hack proof? Nothing is a sure thing. Get your head out of your ass.

No, but if they wear a literal sign around their neck that says "please screw me," and don't protest at all while the deed is being done, but then turn around and try to press rape charges after the fact...
