Only twelve hours? Sounds like this "Binge" was merely an accessory to an underlying medical issue, as has been stated.
True that, but theres been a guy who did a 50 hour "binge" and died from that (in South Korea), but there was underlying problems to that as well.

All these gaming "binges" the media go on about have underlying health problems that have NOTHING to do with gaming, but the persons mental health.

Was the sentiment genuine? Just because he misjudged his limits doesn't mean he was a moron, or deserved to die. No way he did this on purpose, and he's probably left behind grieving relatives.

Hell, apathy is perhaps marginally understandable, but 'celebrating' the kid's death? That's low, man.
Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity. Seriously, guys, you're basically saying 'lol he died'. That is NOT COOL. That is a DICKHEAD THING TO DO.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this. I mean, like Logan said, healthy 19 year olds don't just keel over after a single all nighter of gaming. I'm only a little older and not all that healthy, but I've pulled all nighters and I've been fine. Granted I would get up and walk around from time to time, if only to get myself a sandwich.

But if this guy did this regularly without proper nourishment, very little sleep and without keeping himself hydrated then I guess I could see it happening.

Still, it sucks to see him go.

I doubt it was just the videogames. There must have been some other factor involved. Starvation, dehydration, sleep deprivation, sitting in one position for too long, etc.

I remember my first all nighter... Pikmin 2, it was. 'Course, I was taking precautions: Eating at regular intervals, letting out those tears when I lost all of my Whites, stuff like that.

What a waste of a life. We should nuke that whole country.

(Didn't mean that last bit, calm down)

only 12 hours? There must be something else wrong with with him because people play games all the time for longer than that

I have to say that both posts apply to me as well.

Must be some kind of underlying condition.

Or maybe just too many of these binges.

So many possibilities.

Sad what happened.

i, as many others, too, i am certain, used to play 3 day lan-parties, with maybe five hours sleep total (on the keyboard, of course :p ), and certainly much much longer than "only" 12 hours straight
young people these days...

Might have been all the flashing in the dark rooms gave him a siezure? Fuck your not supposed to play a game 12 hours straight.
Ssssh, they'll hear you!

"Oh I've done 12-13 hours blah blah blah"
"That's nothing! I've gone for a day!"
Ive gone 3 days non stop. This individual is an example of the softness that the world is producing in today's times. If he was of Sparta then this would not happen.
It's blatant that gaming didn't kill him, it was an unseen health factor. With what you said, anyone that is mentally/physically crippled, of old age or has a medical condiiton which could classify him/her as 'soft', he/she should die?

12 hours? That's freekin weak... I mean, it sucks that he died, but I've personally played games for 3 days straight, my brother played Super Mario 64 for 3 days straight. That's strange. Must not grow them very tough in the Koreas.
Typically when something like this happens the person in question was literally not fit enough to live. I mean to the point where there is no physical exertion, ever. It takes a surprising amount of endurance to sit and play video games for an extended period of time which you don't get from playing video games.

As many others have said - 12 hours of gaming enough to kill? My arse.

Wait, he died after 12 hours of gaming?

My typical empty summer day involves at least 14....

What an unfortunate way to perish. I am curious if this was possibly the final straw after prior sessions in sequence. Sure it may have been 12 hours one day, but did he visit the game cafe the day or days before, and for how long? As Logan Westbrook stated in the article, this sounds like a rather abnormal occurrence that leaves extraneous variables more likely.
