Space Marines Rumored for Next Call of Duty

Fulgrim was awesome, most of the Horus Heresy books are.

Except for the Dark Angel ones.

Those two books and the story about the Alpha Legion felt really weak to me. They felt like bad fantasy stories with some 40K lore thrown into them and for "Legion" I just wanted to learn about the Alpha Legion, not a bunch of boring as hell people! D:

it is unfair to call every game that has space marines generic or a halo rip off it isnt ever out yet. space marines are good thing they let the fight unbelievable odds while keeping it relictic(at lest in the game sown logic) so lets stop bashing space marines its alittle silly and reactionary. but sins this is the internet that will never happen

2012 is about as precise as they are being atm, but it will be worth the wait!
I was so dissapointed with Bioshock 2 and when I found out it wasn't the same studio it made so much sense, so now the original studio is making BS:I I can't wait

Well considering Microsoft is going to do jacksquat with Halo, this may just be the filler that scifi fps'ers will want.
We shall see what the future holds.

Actually, I've heard that Microsoft's planning to do anything but jack squat with the Halo franchise. OK, not on the scale of milking seen in Call of Duty (or Guitar Hero), but that cow will get milked.

Spoiler: Assuming next year's Call of Duty is being made by what's left of Infinity Ward, here's a word to describe it.

I doubt they will hang onto the Halo fanbase for long as it has really been nothing but a Bungie product. Microsoft's forays into the Halo universe independent of Bungie thus far have been failures. Halo Wars, for example.
I'm willing to bet that come what may, MS will have made more money just selling the IP to Bungie. Though even with that it would be quite a while before Bungie decided to do more Halo. I get the impression that Bungie is quite happy to be trotting off and trying new things.
And as far as 'What's left of Infinity Ward' that would be just the name itself. Everyone that brought that company into being left when Kotick cleaned house. Those who weren't fired outright flipped BK the bird and either followed the exiles or went their own way. Your prediction is going to be spot-on though if the rumor is true, and Kotick's choice of Yes-Men put into IW are put in charge of producing it. We are going to get new ways of teabagging someone with really nothing else new put into the genre.

I wouldn't mind a gritty WarHammer 40k First Person Shooter, but I'm pretty certain that Gears of War is pretty close to what that would be... except with less horrifying violence and death and hatred.

I really hope Activision doesn't take this route. Call of Duty has always been an arcade-ish FPS based around a realistic setting, least when it followed World War II. If they pull out the Halo / Space Marines version of CoD I honestly believe it will kill the game. Stick with what you're good at, bring innovation to the game and add in new features. Don't remove the scrap of realism you try to cloak yourself in with one of those Syfy B rated movie stories.

Haven't read Legion, but I am currently reading A Thousand Sons and it is really good.

A little slow to begin with but it gets much better, and plus I mostly read the HH books to get a little insight into the Primarchs.

They were so mysterious before the HH books came out, it's nice to shed a little light on these heroic beings.

Nah I was referring to the big companies with games that sport the latest tech. To me only Valve and Rockstar are the BIGGEST names that push the envelope when it comes to making lengthy, meaty games with great visuals and awesome gameplay to boot alongside a great story. Indies are all we have to come up with some new and clever gameplay ideas so those guys won't go anywhere. ESPECIALLY on the PC. But unfortunately, my favorite genre is FPS. And now it's inundated with samey Call of Duty military shooters or samey Halo-esque space marine soldiers. Honestly, that's why I'm looking forward to Duke Nukem Forever = a misogynistic action hero killing waves of perverted aliens...that's practically Shakespeare compared to this CoD/Halo shit

Unfortunately it wouldn't be 40k Space Marines, THQ has exclusive rights to the 40k franchise for video games. If anything it would be Starcraft marines.

I don't give a fuck how original it is, I'm betting that I'll enjoy this, and they'll be able to make it without a bunch of gun-nerds going "hur hur, the colt thingy x1285 doesn't do that! How stupid!".

Basically, I've at least enjoyed every CoD to some extent; it's a reliable FPS, so I'm betting this would be if it got made.

Snow mobile chases, Red Dawn, Zombies, gun-toting JFK, Red Dawn... I'm almost scared.

Instead of nukes being launched like ..., we can just have massive lasers glassing the planet.

Hell, maybe the plot twist will be that the U.S. has reunited the world's legendary Crystal Skulls, the Russians have been manipulating the space-time continuum, the Middle-East was the site of a hidden portal to another dimension, and Nixon was infected by the Zerg overmind...

But on a more positive note, perhaps this could lead to them being forced to create something even slightly new and different, which could actually not suck!
