Man, I can't help thinking this is silly. HEY DUDES, PORTAL 2 AIN'T ROTTING ANY TIME SOON. YOU CAN PLAY IT TEN YEARS FROM NOW AND IT WILL BE THE SAME GAME. THERE IS NO RUSH.

I think I'll play it soon, but only because I don't want people to spoil it for me.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a physics teacher :p
kudos to the man, though 8D
as for me, I didn't have classes today (just 2 hrs of work)
therefore: LOTS OF SCIENCE was done :)

I didn't have to cancel my class today. Luckily enough it was a day off that the school had already planned long in advance. So instead of teaching I got to kick back and have fun with science without feeling guilty.

That's kind of worrying that people are throwing their education away for a game.
It's just one day. I would hardly call that "Throwing their education away".
There we are.

I knew someone would quote me without reading the rest of my replies, thus etching my words in stone and invalidating any clarification or change of mind I may of had. Nice job hero.
Damn buddy, calm down. I wasn't trying to stir up trouble. I saw what you said and thought I'd reply to it. No one's going to crucify you now that your anonymous words on an internet forum are "etched in stone."

I actually requested yesterday and today off of work a month ago so that I could go to the midnight release for Mortal Kombat.

In a strange twist of fate, I called in sick for other reasons today. I'm actually a little worried someone will think I skipped for Portal. It's true that I got it last night and have been playing it today, but it was not my intention to shirk my responsibilities today... gotta be careful.

"So by divising his equation E equals M C squared, Einstein proved that the cake is -in fact- NOT a lie."
So THAT's what the C stands for!
It's been bugging me for years. :p
in case you really want to know. C is the speed of light. 300,000,000 m/s
Did you mean Kilometers (Km) per second? That velocity is listed (Source: About Time, Paul Davies) as 300,000 Km per second.

There all fixed. God it would be good if we all just used metrics....y'know for Science! ^^
No, m in this instance means meters. 1 km = 1000 m, thus 300,000 km/s = 300,000,000 m/s

People with jobs?! Plan it out you lazy asses, schedule a damn vacation day!

Cowards!

Over reaction sponsored by Anti-Science, 'Giving you a flat world, one day at a time.'
thats exactly what i did, about a month ago, and i couldnt get the time off because every one else wanted that fucking day off too!, so i end up working a double shift, fucking brilliant.

still though, after getting home and playing it, it was worth the wait.

I feel like the teacher is just going to give them triple homework for skipping school to play portal.

That teacher is too nice. It's just a game; your education is more important...and expensive, if you're at Uni...play the game after class.

I do like how they just came out and said it though ;-)

if he knows why everyone is calling in sick...then detention their asses! dont give them a freebie, that the worst thing to do! send a message saying you know why they called in sick, and that you will unleash your freaking wrath if they dont come to class!

now the little shits know they can get away with it. way to go.
Um, what? College/university doesn't work that way - you don't get "detention" anymore once you're an adult. That's just silly. It's up to your own volition when you miss class and when you don't - attendance policies are up to the discretion of the teacher and the student doesn't have to say anything about not being present. The only time you would would be if you missed a test or if you've used up your allotted absences (in the rare cases when the teacher imposes a limit).

I do agree, though, that the teacher shouldn't have postponed the class. I mean, it depends on the number of students, but unless it's a sizeable majority the class schedule shouldn't have been altered. There's no way in hell any of my teachers would have done that, regardless of how cool or understanding they were. Different set of priorities, I guess.

I agree completely. These kids are only going to do this more and more.

Don't lie - you've called in sick to school (or to work) because a game came out that you really wanted to play, haven't you?
Nope, not that I remember. If I ever wanted time off to play a game, I tried to use vacation if I had it, and if not, I dealt with it as I needed sick time for actually being sick. Or I didn't get sick time in the first place (yay temp jobs).
