Brilliant, seeing as I run a business it's difficult for me to get away from work or even be sick. But I would take a days leave when BF3 is released.

I have yet to decide if I want to by Portal 2. But I think I will get this game sooner than later...

Well if the portal gun would actually exist, we could just go to school/work and go home during breaks to play portal :)

They asked for lecture notes? Don't give them it. If someone misses a lecture it's their responsibility to make sure they catch up. And if everyone missed it and thus no one wrote down any notes - too bad. I hope some of the stuff they missed comes up on a test.

Seriously, I was a gamming addict as a kid and I still managed to get my priorities straight.

How did he know it was all for Portal 2? I mean I am loving the game to death, but it seems most of the attention and focus on the 19th was for Mortal Kombat. Also you cant count out Socom 4. Wow yesterday was quite a release day.

This is full of some pretty strong win... but I have to say, these kids will never do science without a decent education.

I mean, they'll never do Aperture science anyway cause they're NOT GOOD ENOUGH, but science could still be cool!

Still, I'll be taking Diablo 3 Day (and probably a few more afterwards) off, so I'm not judging.

I'm actually one of those boring people who only calls in sick when I'm actually sick, Still that's nice she let them stay home.
For Science.
When I worked, I never called in sick. Ever. Even I felt sick, I thought it was my duty to go.

Heh. I work at a college IT department, and our manager called out yesterday to play Portal. The rest of us, well, we came in, but we spent the day in a Nerf battle, and one of the sysops guys tricked me into fiddling with one of our touch screens for an hour looking for Portal secrets he programmed into it (there either weren't any or they were so hidden as to be impossible to find. Knowing the guy in question, I'm betting on the former.)

I am hoping that our end of the year office party involves co-op.

Damn buddy, calm down. I wasn't trying to stir up trouble. I saw what you said and thought I'd reply to it. No one's going to crucify you now that your anonymous words on an internet forum are "etched in stone."
Actually the 'nice job hero' was me kidding around, I've been playing Portal and that sounded a lot less snappy in GLaDOS' voice. Sorry 'bout that.
No problem man. I'm not a Portal fan so the joke was lost on me.

Don't lie - you've called in sick to school (or to work) because a game came out that you really wanted to play, haven't you?
No, actually, the one time I did, I used Vacation leave. Vacation/Personal leave is for personal fun times, like games. Sick leave is for sickness. Though, some might say that the compulsion to miss work or school for a video game is a kind of sickness...

Using sick leave for personal time cheats your employer and yourself.

I mean, just be honest. Yeah, in class you'll get an unexcused absence; at work you'll lose leave time. Maybe people should just be willing to consider the consequences of their choices. If you think an unexcused absence, or leave time, is worth the game, go for it; but don't cheat the system over it.

The good news is that the teacher decided to cancel class because of it,
I don't really think that's good news. It validates the behavior. Furthermore, the folks who were going to go to class now have to come in when they weren't scheduled to originally because most of the class decided to goof off.

Again, it comes back to responsibility, this teacher has removed the consequence. "You don't get an unexcused absence/loss of participation points for playing the game, and I'll put an extra burden on the folks who didn't decide to skip class."

Case in point the text you see here to the right:
I know I'm that guy here, but it is an e-mail... god I have no life.

I'm surprised. If I had class yesterday (it was cancelled and I didn't check my email), I couldn't even cut class because it was a morning class and it would be over by the time Best Buy would open. Even if it was an afternoon class, I could always buy the game, go to class and go home to play my game.

What I'm trying to say is that I would never cut class over a video game. I'll probably ignore homework, but I would feel guilty for ditching, especially if it's only one class for the whole day. But that's just me.

Jesus Christ, the vast majority in this thread need to learn to lighten the fuck up and pull that log out of their asses.

ONE class missed doesn't meant the world is gonna end. Get over it.
