I'd at least like some blue, or something a little darker around the sides of pages. Right now it's way too bright.

Though I notice none of the slow loading others have mentioned...

First I thought I'd landed on Facebook. Personally, I don't really like it but since you put a lot of work into it and changing it back won't happen anyways, it'll have to do.

I like that you tried to make it more like a news website, it was a good change.

Seems nice, like everything it'll take some getting used to though. The new layout it nice, but I have one qualm.

Where has all the blue gone!? I agree with the others that it feels less cozy now. I never thought I'd describe a site on my monitor being cozy.

It's too white. It's too bright. I miss the sidebar with the main features. I can't find news stories as easily without the big list the old site had. I'm navigating away from the site now, because my eyes hurt because it's too white and too bright. I don't like it. I don't care if it's new, that's no excuse. The old site worked damn near perfectly. A minor tweak would have sufficed. This much change is unnecessary. This feels far more limited. Oh, and, it hurts my eyes.

Agreed on it being way too bright. The slowness seems to have gone away in the last few hours, so I imagine it was just transition issues. As for everything else, we'll see how it goes. Personally I like to be able to pull up the page and quickly scan over the new videos/articles to see if anything catches my eye. If that hasnt been made more difficult then I'll consider it a lateral move.

At first I thought that the page didn't load correctly, but then I refreshed it.
To be honest I don't mind just supporting The escapist with this, especially because it seems like everyone else is complaining about it.
The pages are actually pretty much the same, the color scheme is just different.
I'll just get used to it.

Kross. You are awesome. Thanks for taking the time to actually address my concerns in a far more gentlemanly way than I should have.

Hate the main page layout. It's a mess. Disorganized. Having a title bar on each table does not make it organized, it gives the web masters an excuse to cram as many topics onto the home page as possible. Waaaaaaaaaay too many choices.

The front page is very malleable, I'm sure we'll figure something out that isn't overwhelming. It may take a few days for the editors to get used to it.

I guess this is a matter of opinion, but when on this wide blue planet has that never been the case? I'll get over it.

It's not a book, type the characters you can make out or hit the refresh button right next to the captcha until you can.

I know how to use a captcha. I was making a broader statement about Google using me to do its job.

Still if it saves hours of your staffs' time (and you would know better than me) then I can accept that.

I'm sorry for ranting. I love Escapist. I hate seeing it imitate its inferiors. Don't be that guy, Escapist. Don't be that guy.

It's ok, a lot for us here used to be GMs for not overly popular MMOs. I've heard some rants. Give us some time to get the basic site running smoothly (we've added a lot of fun things on the backend that the old site couldn't support) and then we'll start doing some things you definitely haven't seen before.

That's fair. I will give it more time... just... too bright... *seizure*

Apparently it ate my comment from much earlier today.

The layout is an absolute cluster fuck, the white is eye melting and reminds me of the horrible gawker redesign. Also the loading times are absolutely abysmal, though they have gotten better from earlier.

Looks like its time to find another, another game news website. I just don't understand how so many of these sites are "streamlining" to the add facebook crowd where shit has to be cluttered and jumbled all over the website.

*Pro-tip: It should never take an article or comments section over 5 minutes to load on a site unless it is being horribly crippled via attacks or a massive influx of users. Especially when I can get 5+ gig games off digital distribution services in about 30-45 minutes.

I'm afraid to say that unless there is a way to switch between or bring back the older layout I will be gone from this site just like I left Kotaku and Gawker media.

My pickings for good gaming sites are beginning to get pretty slim. Off to check out Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

It's A damn shame to because I really enjoyed the Escapist.

Hell... studies say reading white on black is much easier on the eyes than black on white.

I'd love a Dark Escapist.

It is going to take awhile for me to get used to this set-up. Everything seems more shifted around and hidden, compared to how everything was listed down the sides or front in more obvious ways.

Seriously though, it sucks. Please give us an option to set the layout to 'classic' (like Kotaku did). This way everybody will be happy - you guys get your new shiny site, we get our good old Escapist back.

Edit: ok, here's why I don't like the new layout
1) I can't seem to find anything - it's like all the tabs are trying to jump my face and as a result I see nothing
2) It's too bright
3) No need for such a big twitter box.
4) The structure of the layout is somewhat lost on me - see point #1
5) YOu guys are nerds and you should know that for most nerds change=bad, no change=good
6) don't try fixing something that is not broken in the first place dammit

I'm interested in what program your web designer is using. Was it done in house or a firm?

It certainly speaks to right now. More open and flowing. Cleaner, blockier, easy-to-read serif fonts. I dig it. The lowercase 'g' in the bodycopy is a great touch. What is the font?

Ah the graphic designer's burden. Asking all of the unimportant questions.

Also the availability of the video series via drop down was a great idea. Feels like the Gamestop site, but still clean.

Well to start I'm not going to insult you guys for the changes, like some people. I will admit though I preferred the old layout to this. It felt more welcoming and familiar (obviously I guess).

I will just have to get used to it though. It's not like anything bad has come from changing the layout, apart from the shock of coming onto the site today that is

I don't like the look of the new design, but the BIG problem with it is that everything is so much slower, and even causes Firefox to lock up from time to time.

It also looks very dated, suddenly the old layout looks much more modern, and polished.
