I agree with those that say that the 'important decision' regarding Megaton was put into the player's hands far too early.

As for the rest of the game, it's a blast, but it's difficult for me even on Very Easy. I don't have much room for carrying items, and I'm constantly running out of ammunition or health. Any survival tips I should know?
Give me your T.A.G, and you weapon/skill information and I might tell you how to properly play your character.
Alright. My Strength is 5, Perception 6, Endurance 6, Intelligence 7, Charisma 5, Agility 6, Luck 5. I've got a bunch of pistols/handguns and the respective ammunition, two assault rifles, a bunch of healing items, and some other odds and ends. I'm level 2, and I chose to T.A.G. the following skills: Repair, Small Guns, and Medicine, since I want to be a self-sufficient scrounger that's pretty good with ranged weaponry.

I'm currently on the quest where the main character is looking for his/her dad at a Galaxy Radio station, and I'm at the Metro place halfway between Galaxy Radio and Megaton.

Hmm alright you seem to have a gunner for your character well, that's not bad but a little to standard for my taste ;o.

Your Hunting Rifle and Shotgun will be your best friends, and learn to corner ambush in tight situations.
Try to sneak from afar when you see an enemy and use the hunting rifle for a sneak attack. You may also want to get a Chinese Assault Rifle for those "oh shit" moment.

Since you chose Repair and Medicine you probably will deal more damage and take less damage than a character which doesn't have those skills so remember to keep your armor and weapons repaired.
As for medicine it can be a life saver, you'll probably need less stimpacks so use them freely.

With a character like that I would recommend Stealth for your 4th Tag skill (You'll probably have enough points to max out a 4th skill by level 20), also try to find Lincons Repeater, it's the best rifle in the game.
Excellent. So I'm a healing, repairing gunner? Not bad. Why should I T.A.G. stealth, though? I'm confused.

Lincoln's Repeater sounds good, I just don't know where to find it.

Are there any big storehouses containing healing items and ammo early on in the game? How does one acquire Dogmeat? Any places that I should go to immediately before proceeding with the story?

I need some help with Grayditch; I accepted the little brat's offer for me to find his dad, I explored Grayditch a little, found out said brat's father was dead, and now I can't find the brat anywhere. Can someone tell me where I can find him?
He's inside the preservation shelter near the dinner. Check your radar.
Great, I know just where to find the Diner. It's called Dot's Diner, yes? If so I can find him. Muchas gracias.

I liked exploring around, and some of the combat was rather fun (if unchallenging). However, the ending was the worst (and sloppiest) since Neverwinter Nights 2, and it made me trade in the game that very afternoon. I will NEVER replay a game that "rewards" you in such a manner, and to make matters even worse, your choices throughout the game did not matter more than just slighty. Saint or genocidal maniac made little difference, is what I'm saying.
The original Fallouts showed the consequences of your passing through each location - this one disregards that aspect entirely.
Good going, Bethesda, you really disappointed me as much as I had feared. I want my 35+ hours back.
Really? I really liked how they avoided the typical "I want to be a complete evil bastard and not help anyone and join the villains" thing. They let you choose the ending, and mix it up a bit too. They also didn't try to extend the gameplay by forcing you go and acquire parts for Liberty Prime or nonsense like that. I'm curious as to how you thought it should/would be, though.
They avoided the typical "I wanna be a bastard" thing only at the end, precisely by not letting you choose it - apart from one choice at the very end (for the record, I played as a saint and STILL doesn't agree with the ending). I am fair, I'll give it that it has 4 (or possibly 5, benefit of doubt) different endings (variations on the same theme though). Even if you count all variations of black and white stills, I don't think there are more than 50, and that's being EXTREMELY generous and nitpicking, since the difference won't even be noticeable to the average player.
Bethesda went out and touted more than 200 different endings depending on your actions, and later amended it to "more like 500". Sure, I didn't expect more than slight varitions for that number, but I DID expect my actions to amount to more than Ron Perlman basically saying "You were good" and "You were bad", respectively. Guess they went to the Molyneux school of PR.
But it wasn't the worst game I've played by far, which makes the end much more of a letdown.
Did they? Once again I am an unaware because I stopped listening to hype a long time ago, a lesson many gamers fail to learn. Say, What happens if you don't put the right code into the machine?

You should choose stealth because you don't have much endurance :).

And you have above average agility.
So the balance tips in favor of stealth than direct open fire fights. Although the medicine might cover it a little, but as I said it's just a recommendation, you could always go for Speech as well since it's used a lot.

I'm not telling you where the repeater is. Not because I'm a douche but because there's a side quest that takes you there and it might be a little surprise to find such an awesome weapon ;).

If you're further in the game without it then ask again and I'll gladly tell ya.
As for the preservation shelter it's like this:

You get out of the dads house and to your right there's a shack and further to the right there's a dinner and the preservation shelter. I didn't noticed any name on it thought.
I don't think Speech will be very useful, so if you say so, I'll go for Stealth. I mean, there aren't any other outstanding choices, are there?

As for the Repeater, is it a sidequest that is missed easily or one that's shoved in your face as soon as you enter Area X?

The dad's house? I'm guessing this is either Vault 101 or some house further along in the main quest, correct? If it's to the far right of Vault 101, then I think I can find this preservation shelter easily.

But right now I'm at the Metro place...can you give me directions to this preservation shelter? BTW, what's in it?

The ending really annoyed me

Watching a giant robot have all the fun is not good game play. I kept expecting him to get blown up but no luck, I just felt like a spectator. Being able to talk down the last Boss was a nice touch but how you do it made little sense, and the massive plot holes such as 'I have an advanced radiation suit plus bucket loads of rad x' I honestly tried to get in and out as quickly as possible the first time and was confused when after typing in the code I was rooted to the spot.

Also some fairly huge plot holes throughout the entire main plot that have been mentioned to death by others so I wont repeat them. It's a shame because apart from the main plot the game is really good.

Sorry if this has been asked but since I'm not going to read the whole thread... it's really long, could someone help me with:

On Moriaty's computer in Megaton, there are files on the Doctor, Billy Creel etc. Are they just there for flavour or are there quests asociated with them?

*raises hand*

Rockopolis anyone?[/quote]
I also managed to talk my way out of putting the satellite up, but did later anyway just because I wanted to be able to hear GNR across the wasteland
I also found that alien blaster, but just because of that handy map RGP put up, thanks RGP!
Also, what's in Rockopolis that's of note?

Alright guys, I really need to find Rivet City. Right now I'm at the Irradiated Metro, and directions as to how to get to Rivet City from there would be greatly appreciated.

Want me to draw you a map? (I'm not sarcastic).
Written directions would be more preferable. :)

It's tough to explain how to get there.
I usually go from Megaton to the Super Mart, cross the bridge and then follow the coast all the way down till I get to a building that resembles a museum, then i turn left and keep going until I finally arrive to Rivet City.

Don't you use the radar? Open up your pip boy, check the quests and click on the one that makes you go to Rivet City, then look to your compass and follow the green arrow :)

By the way, even without the SDK, mods are already prospering on the PC.

I've been following the green arrow, but I've either come to a place where rubble is blocking the way, or I just get lost.

I'm at the Irradiated Metro. Where should I go from there?
