I liked exploring around, and some of the combat was rather fun (if unchallenging). However, the ending was the worst (and sloppiest) since Neverwinter Nights 2, and it made me trade in the game that very afternoon. I will NEVER replay a game that "rewards" you in such a manner, and to make matters even worse, your choices throughout the game did not matter more than just slighty. Saint or genocidal maniac made little difference, is what I'm saying.
The original Fallouts showed the consequences of your passing through each location - this one disregards that aspect entirely.
Good going, Bethesda, you really disappointed me as much as I had feared. I want my 35+ hours back.
Really? I really liked how they avoided the typical "I want to be a complete evil bastard and not help anyone and join the villains" thing. They let you choose the ending, and mix it up a bit too. They also didn't try to extend the gameplay by forcing you go and acquire parts for Liberty Prime or nonsense like that. I'm curious as to how you thought it should/would be, though.
They avoided the typical "I wanna be a bastard" thing only at the end, precisely by not letting you choose it - apart from one choice at the very end (for the record, I played as a saint and STILL doesn't agree with the ending). I am fair, I'll give it that it has 4 (or possibly 5, benefit of doubt) different endings (variations on the same theme though). Even if you count all variations of black and white stills, I don't think there are more than 50, and that's being EXTREMELY generous and nitpicking, since the difference won't even be noticeable to the average player.
Bethesda went out and touted more than 200 different endings depending on your actions, and later amended it to "more like 500". Sure, I didn't expect more than slight varitions for that number, but I DID expect my actions to amount to more than Ron Perlman basically saying "You were good" and "You were bad", respectively. Guess they went to the Molyneux school of PR.
But it wasn't the worst game I've played by far, which makes the end much more of a letdown.
