In 40+ hours of play time on the Xbox, Fallout 3 has frozen only twice for me. Most of the technical issues I hear about people having have been with the PC version. Now I'm not flaming, I'm not claiming the Xbox is superior to the PC, I'm just reporting what I've heard...

Over 60 hours for me and it's only frozen four times for me, so it freezes an average of once every 15 hours, pretty good.
See, that was what I was trying to say to Jaythulu when I had my foot in my mouth a few posts ago: Play it on a console before you proclaim that the whole game is bad.

it froze 4 times on me in 20 hours, and then never again. :was playing 6-8 hours a session:

Now that I don't do that anymore (classes) it's perfectly fine.

Hmm, it seems I am being slightly misunderstood. I'm not saying that fallout 3 is a bad game, it looks like it has great potential. What I'm saying is that it was released in such a flawed state, it's practically unplayable on any kind of high end pc. So far the number of quad-core and sli/crossfire users reporting major lockups, ctds, system hangs, memory leaks, graphical corruption and savegame corruption is ridiculous.

That's not even going into the poor implementation of audio codecs, the incompatibility with vista+creative soundcards, poor implementation of the 3rd person view, failure of the volume controls, custom key configs causing ctds on startup, the lies about securom rootkit.... etc etc.

The software is more like a paid beta than a final release.

Just got the game, and by god am I enjoying this! I've just died for the first time, running out of ammo while being shot at by my first Talon Company Mercs. They're... pretty tough. As in, really tough.
Don't feed the Yao Guai.

....Never mind, you'll get it later, the hard way.
Perhaps, but these chaps have foreheads of steel. When you can take three bullets to the face and continue to shoot at me, then I'll be impressed.
Well that's the good side of playing a neutral protagonist. You stay in good terms with everyone. The Talon Company only attacks you if you're playing a goody two-shoes character and on the other hand if you're playing a sick fuck people will send the Regulators after you.
It's actually pretty funny looting their bodies and finding a note saying: 'KILL RICHARD!!!'. That always makes me chuckle a bit.
I named my character Poppa Biscuit, made for some pretty funny bounty notices

I have finally forced myself away from Gears of War 2 by letting a friend borrow it and I can now give this game the attention it deserves, and my dear sweet zombie Jesus it deserves it. I have been playing for 15+ hours and feel as if I haven't even scratched the surface. Though I really wish you could kill children.
Just let me in. All I want to do is pass through you stupid little camp, shoot some super mutants in the face and grab myself a G.E.C.K. Is that too much to ask?

Hey is there a car in this one? Maybe a ridable Yao Guai? I'm sick of walking around the wasteland.

Also "Gotta kill a goody-two-shoes ElArabDeMagnifico."

Fits so well...

No cars, though there are a lot of motorcycles that it seems like you should be able to ride, but you can't...

On the subject of the game crashes; is it specifically on quad core pcs that it has most problems? Just a bit worried as to whether this will work on my pc (3gig dual core, few months old).

Also, if I buy it through steam will I avoid the rootkit DRM as I get Steam's DRM instead?

Thanks

I have a dual core and have only had one crash since release. And my pc is at least a year old so I don't think that you will have eny problems. I'm running XP.
