If I still played pokemon, I'd pick the Water starter.

Because it's a fucking *otter*, the most awesome of all water mammals.
You obviously haven't heard of Narwhals.

Bah, Narwhals, they're just crippled unicorns.

Ever time a new game came out I always thought, "at least the starters still look good", but these are kind of bad. I mean really, does that otter need freckles, its kind of weird. There adding to many small design motifs.

And I thought Platinum had bad starter pokemon...

Shame on me for actually getting my hopes up about the Pokemon design.

Oh, and the guy is now androgynous. Yaaay... Bleh
Oh come on... you wouldn't like a fire pig type thing? (And while typing that I realized that it would make good bacon) Or something that looked like a little girl dressed up a beaver with the head of a otter? Or some grass thing? Hopefully they don't end up like the Gen III ones. I usually go with fire type and them making it fire/fighting made it pretty much everything super effective against it.

Eh, maybe my standards are too low, but these starters look no less appealing to me than any other starters (The water otter/seal/snowman amalgam looks odd, but I can tolerate it - it's no more weird-looking than Nosepass/Probopass).

Hmmm, well it's different. I can hope that the final form for theem looks awesome because at the moment I am not the most impressed. If I had to pick one based on looks I would go for the grass one every time.

The water type looks like an Orsen from Tales of Legendia.

I love those things.... ors.

I dont think they are that bad to be honest, they could do worse...

Oh dear..... Starters have been getting worse since red and Blue. They got slightly better in the 4th gen but they were hardly Bulbasaur Charmander or Squirtle. This however looks to be the worse yet. The grass one looks ok (better than treeko at least) and i suppose the fire one is kind of cute, but wtf were they thinking with the water starter? It looks like someone tore the head of a Quagsire and replaced it with half a snowman, and what the hell is coming out of its stomach? Am i the only one who thinks it looks a bit like a cock?

... Are we talking about Pokemon or a delicious dinner?

Actually, that's a good question. Can you eat Pokemon?

Love them all; fire pig bunny, otter beaver snowman, leaf lizard shrew. Can't wait to see the evolutions.

If Mr. Mime had been 4th Gen people would be saying wtf is that? The fact is the style is the same all the way through and the ideas are always quite good. Newer pokemon are only 'weird' because you are not used to them, it comes down to personal opinion if they are getting worse or not. In each generation there are some I think are cooler that others but I don't cry about it.

Later generations get a bad rap because of overly nostalgic fools who have lost all sense of adventure. Go back in time and show these crazy little fellas to them when they were playing Silver/Gold on their Gameboy and I guarantee you they would crap their pants.

Would the grass types be vegetarian? Because, I guess they are technically animals, but they are also grass...

Yes, I'm going to assume yes. How else do you think places like Red Kingler stay open. I'm sure they have delicious Seafood and some juicy Miltank.

And for the vegetarians? Tropius. And come on, don't tell me that Bulbasaur's bud doesn't ook like a head of lettuce and is probably rich in nutrients.

Except for Magikarp, I do believe they tried eating one in the cartoon, but it's scales were too tough. The meat must be delicious though.

And thus my starter is revealed - a pig. This is purely because fire has been cemented as my favourite type since Charmander graced my possession.

The thing that I find myself concerning over (ever so slightly) is that there is always at last one starter design that manages to hold the others failings.

First generation Charmander won trumps, but the other two designs were so good his magnificance was dwarfed slightly. Put him in today's line up and he'd stamp all over them.

Second generation focused on cuteness, and I'd have to say Chikorita stormed the show there.

Treecko held the fort of third generation sensationally against the atrocities of Mudkip and Torchic.

Chimchar reclaimed the crown for the Fires of good design, but it was more of a question of the lesser of three evils.

Fifth generation... At a push I could grow to like the Grass type - mainly because the Fire and Water look like a pair of disgraces and the Grass mirrors Treecko slightly and scores points from his greatness. If this was first generation I wouldn't have played these games, and that's what Game Freak need to think - "If this was our debut, would these be effective?".

It is eerie how close the fan interpretation was though- even paying mind he had two types confused. I'd even go far to say I'd prefer a Fire panda than a Water one.

Mr. Mime, jynx and magmar (only because he has an ass on his forehead other then that he's okay) are all horrible looking, I don't understand people who yell "1st generation was the best everything looks dumb past 1st generation." Well to you 1st generation lovers I say Totodile!
